with a 13 month old!! My partner and I are looking for fun things to do with our baby! We would really like to get him around other children for playgroups or activities. Does anyone know of anything in the area for us? We tried the local recreation department, but the activities start at 2 years old! :( Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Our local library has a children's area where we take our 13 month old. She loves it. She gets to crawl around and watch the other kids play (which is one of her favorite things to do), and when we leave we'll get some books. Lather, rinse, repeat!

Where do you live? I'm a part of a MOMS Club (for Madison Heights, Troy & Hazel Park residence). I know that several other cities (Royal Oak & Warren for sure) also have groups like this which may be something to look into. I've also meet a few local moms just by going to my neighborhood parks, library and mall & "networking". Also, I'd recommend a zoo membership. We got one just after my daughter turned 1 and it's been an awesome investment--she LOVES going and we have fun, too! Good luck!

Hi A.
You could try your local library. I have taken my kids to Southfield library storytimes since they were 6 months old. Contact your local library or go their website and look at their calendar of activities. Southfield library has a family storytime tonight at 7pm, and a family dinner theater May ____@____.com also run storytime weekdays in the mornings, different days for different age groups.
Also I know that Great Start collaberative are starting a playgroup in Hazel Park...Learning Together Playgroup – Hazel Park, every Monday for six weeks starting May 18th. Register by calling Jean Jacque @ ###-###-####. They may have other playgroups in your area if this is too far for you.
Also my kids always loved the zoo, although this activity does not necessarily involve other kids, it is a lot of fun.
Hope you find something suitable, it's difficult at this age to find organised, fun things to do.

Hi A.,

There are a couple of different groups that I can think of that may help out. One is called a M.O.P.S group (mother of preschoolers) but is designed for your baby's age and up. Just type that in on your search engine. Also there is something called a MOMS group, you can look that up on line as well. Also, oops there is another one and I am drawing a blank...lol pause... Shoot when I think of it I will email you again. But all these groups I belonged to when my son was young and had a great time. You can also check your local libraries for activities. If you have any questions about the groups I suggested feel free and email me.

Good luck and take care,
S.

Great Parents Great Starts offers some wonderful playgroups; some are for babies birth-1 yr, some are for babies 1-3 yrs... etc.

There's a May calendar here:

We're hooked into a playgroup in downriver that meets in the evening, and really enjoy the ongoing contact with other parents dealing with the same developmental issues that we have!

Also, there's a ton of free outdoor concerts during summer. I love bringing my children to these and picnicking outdoors; it exposes them to music, and the outdoors, and other families.
