Hey moms,
I just realized that I was giving my 13 month old baby approx 1 cc(ml) more of Rescon gg than I should have been. Since Friday I have given him 10 doses total. The dr. prescribed it as 1/3 tsp every six hours and I was giving almost 3/4 tsp. I just got confused, he had strep and was other meds as well. Thank God I only gave him one dose today and I will not be giving him more. He has been super cranky the past couple of days and has a terrible rash on his chest going down to the top of the diaper area. I have been treating the rash and it looks a bit better. Anyone else ever do this? Is everything going to be ok?? I am very worried.....

What can I do next?

If he has a rash he is probably allergic to that medication. Is it an antibiotic? 1/3 and 3/4 tsp isnt all that much difference really. It sounds like he's reacting to it tho and probably would have anyway. I'd call your pediatrician and let them know your son has the rash. They wil be much more help than we can be since you state he's on other meds as well. Strep leads to scarlet fever or scarlatina as well... and that might be the culprit for the rash.

There are 5 ml in one tsp...1/3 tsp would be about 1.7 ml but 3/4 tsp would be 3.75 ml. I think you're a bit confused about how much you've been giving him. You need to call your pediatrician who prescribed this med (I've never even heard of this one) and have him/her paged. Also, call poison control, they may be able to offer some insight.

Maybe try a nurse line or the poisen control center before sitting in an ER for hours. Your brain is on overload with a sick baby, so give yourself a break!!

If you are concerned call the poison control center. I have had to utilize their expertise more than once. They are calm and informative and will help put your mind at ease. Don't feel too bad. I just realized I have been giving myself twice the antibiotics I need, we have all misread things once in a while,

I did this on an airplane trip when my daughter was 18mths-ish, I'm probably remembering the numbers wrong but I think it was supposed to be .5 ml of Tylenol (she had a fever) and I gave her 5ml-- she slept REALLY good that flight, but was fine. I felt horrible and kinda embarrassed admitting it, but it was only once and I realized literally right after she swallowed it. If your son showed signs of overdose, like lethargic, vomiting, things that signalled his body wasn't handling it, then I'd be worried. But since you caught it and know how to correct it, you should be fine. If you think it is having a negative affect on him call your doctor, even if they have after hours answering they can tell you what to do. Good luck!! :)

call your doctor. most docs have a doc on call. You could also call poison control (aka Mr. Yuck), they deal with medication overdoses all the time and can tell you if you need to take him somewhere.

As for the rash, my oldet son would get a rash on his tummy every time he had strep before he had any meds. The dr said it was his body reacting to the virus. Some kids will drive you crazy with things like that. just ask your dr.

Well, I saw your update and I am very glad you found the reassurance you needed through calling poison control. The great thing is that in these cases, poison control is the BEST place to call because they are 24 hrs, and can give you a very accurate answer and in most cases give you reassurance that everything is fine pretty quickly. Mamapedia and similar sites are great resources for questions about breastfeeding, naps, tantrums, etc. But when it comes to these kinds of questions, calling your doctor or poison control immediately is truly warranted since there could be serious consequences to relying on anyone else! Good Luck and hope your baby is feeling better:)
