I remember those days. Ended up that the formula had WAY too much iron for his little body. So we mixed with low-iron formula and had no problem.

Talk to your ped about switching to a soy based formula. Cows milk intolerance is really common. But don't switch randomly or multiple times. Talk to your ped so you know the switch makes sense.

Talk to your pedi. It has been YEARS... But I had to switch my daughter to a soy formula and it worked great. We used neutrogmen ( sp). She's 20 now and has always been in great health.

Good luck!

You'll get a lot if differing opinions with some people who believe it's their way or no way. Follow the guidance of your pedi and your gut!! Everything else is someone's personal opinion ( including mine)

Speak with your pediatrician - he/she may recommend a different formula or something as simple as a surfactant to decrease gas formation. Do NOT feed goat's milk - it is completely unbalanced for a human infant (perfect of course for goat kids) and do not add anything to the formula that your pediatrician does not instruct you to (which will almost certainly be nothing but water as formulas are balanced to meet all the nutritional requirements of human infants).

Hi S.,

Avoid the formulas period. The smell may be the milk based one, but soy is not good for a little girl. My recommendation is goats milk. It's the closest to human breast milk. Some moms juice carrots and add to it for additional nutrients....and it's as cheap as formula.

God bless,
M.

I would talk to your pediatrician. I don't remember much smelly gas at all from my D. She was on breast milk and Emfamil formula. But please do not give baby goat milk and carrot juice!!!!!

Try to keep in mind that all babies have gas and that gas can be smelly. It's worth mentioning to your ped, but it really might be nothing. Formula babies have smellier poop compared to breast fed babies. It is what it is, and it's not something to worry about.

There are several brands of formula. While most babies do just fine on any brand, there are differences in some of the ingredients, and that can make a difference. It's very possible that she will do better on a different brand. I know more than one baby that started out on Enfimil and did much better on Similac.

There are also variations on the milk based formulas. Some are for sensitive tummies, some are for reflux babies ... there are milk based that are not just the regular one.

Please talk to your doctor before changing formulas. And please, please, please do not just switch to goat's milk. There may be some truth to that suggestion, but it is simply unwise to make such a drastic change without talking to your doctor.

So make a list of your concerns. Note the times you feed her and when you notice the gas. Also write down the times that she is fussy and anything else you can about the circumstances.

Remember, babies can be fussy. They can be fussy with no known cause. It might have absolutely nothing to do with her formula.

Talk to the doc about changing to either lactose free or soy or something else.

Def check out Christy Lee's advice - iron it hard on little tummies!

My daughter did that too and her doctor put her on soy milk. She was able to go back to regular milk at 7 months. Now she is lactose intolerant so that was probably the issue all along. Good luck!!!

i would definitely talk to your ped and find a different formula. don't get too hung up on which kind.
my new baby had a rash which one pediatrician was CONVINCED was due to a milk allergy, and insisted i put him on soy. after several days of violent projectile vomiting (i was more timid then and terrified to go against her advice) i went to a new ped who suggested i go back to my formula and change my laundry detergent. and that did the trick. (i breast-fed but supplemented.)
mylicon or other infant gas drops might help too.

My son didn't do well with milk-based formula - lots of throwing up and crying. I don't know why someone said soy isn't good for kids - of course it is. It's been nature's protein for 5000 years! Kids have done well on it for decades. Goat's milk is an option but with a one-month old, you may not feel like going out all the time to find fresh product. Talk to the pediatrician but you've got a baby with digestive distress. I used the powdered Pro-So-Bee rather than the premixed liquid because it kept better and traveled better. (And I know work with the food scientist who helped develop it years ago, and he's one of the top Chief Scientific Officers in the country.) Your baby needs nutrition but it doesn't have to be from milk.
