Hi ladies! I'm wondering if anyone has any good product suggestions for tile floor cleaners? The stuff I'm using right now, a product recommended by a company that installs tile who said it was the best, leaves this nasty gritty residue on my tile. It makes it look dirty even though I just scrubbed the heck out of it. Even after I rinse it, and I even "walk" a towel around to soak up any puddles in the grout, it still gets this dull gritty stuff. I'm new to this type of floor cleaning and I think I have a good system for the cleaning process, I'd just like some product suggestions that will make me feel like my time cleaning has been worth it. For example a nice clean floor that shines with no grit would be great! :-)

So after a frustrating afternoon that resulted in me begging ya'll for info I found out from a useful source that the reason my tile is gritty is not because of the product I'm using. The tile needs to be sealed again. After a while and so many cleanings the grit, or dust, is coming up from the rock and grout. Never realized this could happen but then I went to a flooring store that I've worked with before and there the proof was right before my eyes. Unsealed tile just like mine with grit. So the next step is sealing it up and then I can go back to worrying more about my dishes getting done.

Did you seal the grout after the grout was put on?? If you didn`t that might be the cause of having so much grit,the grout is gritty.

I use Basic G (GERMS) and Basic H2 (all purpose)They are all natural cleaners and I get them from myself Shaklee Distributor They were featured on OPRAH'S FAVORITE THINGS I love it and you need very little My house is a good size and I use it for everything I have had the Basic H for about 6 months now and the Basic G for 3 months. You have a baby so I guess that you would be looking for something safe. My floors have no residue. I even wash my dog in it it's that safe. Well I hope this helps and good luck

Hi Jen, We had beautiful tile layed in the active living areas of our house and the guys working with the tile said to forget all those pricey cleaners and use simple white vinegar and water. It works beautifully and saves room under the sink, where I was storing many products for cleaning that vinegar now replaced. Enjoy your tile and good luck.
I use the Clorox Green Works tile cleaner, it's all natural, smells good and does not leave a residue.
I have over 650 sq ft of ceramic tile. I HATE mopping. I bought about 8 different kinds of mops, looking for the perfect one. I also have a bird and didn't want anything that would leave a lingering strong smell. And no sticky. Believe it or not, I found a no-rinse floor cleaner that's good for all kinds of floors for about $1-2 at the dollar general stores. The liquid is blue, and I know it says no rinse on it. Other than that, that's all I remember. And it cleaned great. Now I have a maid so she fights it with whatever she wants, and I don't ask and I don't care. Hope this helps!!

It sounds like you are having to do the job 4 times and you're still not getting the results you want. And with an 8 1/2 month old daughter, I am sure you don't want her crawling around on the "grit" and then sticking her toys and/or hands in her mouth.
I recently switched stores and began buying healthier products free of all the harmful chemicals, chlorines, ammonia, and other harsh corrosives. They are all naturally derived, smell better, and clean better than anything I have found at the market and I am saving money! Most importantly are the health benefits. My daughter, 11, suffers from eczema and since we switched she is no longer on steroid creams. The greatest and cheapest thing for tile is a dollap of vinegar in a sink of hot water. I use white cidar vinegar and it leaves my white tile spotless. A friend told me about this years ago and it works great and is so cheap and easy and good for the environment. No harsh chemicals.
I also never sealed my grout. It is not necessary.
Try AWESOME cleaner. It works really great on most stains. I usually can find it either at the Dollar Tree or Dollar General type stores. Usually it costs around $1 or so there. It comes in a spray bottle & just squirt some on the surface stain, wait a few minutes for it to soak then mop or use wet cloth to clean it up. Works good for me, hope it helps you. Good luck!
Hi Jen. I'm glad you solved your grit problem but I wanted to pass on some useful info. When I asked our tile guy what to use for cleaning the floor he said the best thing to use was a vinegar/water solution. I have been using nothing but that and after 5 years now my floor still looks and feels wonderful. I just run warm water into my bucket and pour white distilled vinegar in and start mopping. I don't have to rinse the floor or anything. I also use a vinegar and water mix to clean my granite counter top and my bathrooms. It is the easiest, safest and CHEAPEST way to go! By the way, my daughter plays tennis so I know your husband does work hard! I bet he loves every minute though! Anyway, I hope this helps. God bless!
When we got our tile floors, we were told to use vinegar and water. Doesn't smell the greatest, but it works great. It is also a natural anti-bacterial product.
I never listen to those people trying to sell me their products. When my children were very little, I used clorox and water on my ceramic tile and grout. On my marble tile, I used ammonia and water or vinegar and water. All worked wonderfully. I had no gritty residues and no streaking. I also had no worries about germs being left behind for crawling children to find. Good luck.
