My son is going to be turning 5 months in two weeks. When he turned 4 months I try giving him the cereal. Tryed Rice first then Oatmeal then Barley. The first time I gave him the rice he ate it and then he didn't want it and then I tryed the other one and he did the same thing I started giving it to him before he goes the bed. I would tryed giving him the cereal beofre the bottle and after the bottle. But still he does't stay interested in it after 2 feedings .Did this happen to anyone and what to do. Should I start with giving him Vegetables. He had no problem eating from baby spoon.

What can I do next?

Hi,

I am going through the same thing with my 61/2 month old son.
He won't eat anything it seems. I figured out today that he loves cheerios. I know it seem a little soon but I was willing to try anything to get him to eat. I also just found that if you mix cereal with babyfood he eats it a whole lot better. As far as strting with veggies, I think it is an old wives tale that you get a sweet tooth from stsrting with fruit. My 4 yo started with veggies, ate the heck out of them, but now HATES them I can't even sneak them in anywhere. so who's to say what difference it makes what you start with. I find that things like applesauce and bananas are easier to start with because they taste good and baby will want to eat that.

good luck

I would try mixing the cereal with some fruit. I never gave my children the plain rice cereal, I can't imagine it tastes that good. Just make sure that between each fruit/veggie that you wait a few days to make sure they're not allergic to that food before moving onto the next.

He might not be that interested in solids yet. Sometimes they don't develop a real interest until they are older. You can also keep trying but not forcing it on him.

I agree with Sarah. I work in a daycare and we usually mix the cereal with fruit and formula to make the right consistancy and make sure it's warm. The baby may fuss for a few days but keep at it and they will get used to the eating process. A good trick if the baby won't swallow the food is to put the pacifier in his mouth after giving a spoonful of food. This will make him swallow the food. Good luck, P.
