Since my son will only be six months old at Christmas, I would like to get him a nice keepsake for his first Christmas. Any ideas?

What can I do next?

My mother bought my daughter a bank; 12 years later she still has it on a shelf in her room.

How about an ornament? I started with a "babies first Christmas" and I purchase one each year. One day when they go off on their own, they'll have a nice beginner set for their first tree.

My grandmother started this tradition with her grandkids, and now my mom and I do it with mine. Each year they get a new x-mas ornament. I try to get a dated one. This way when their grown up they have a collection of ornaments to start with.

There is a Christmas ornament kit that you can make with an impression of your baby's hand-kinda cool. Google to find!:)

My daughter was 2 months for her first Christmas, so I decided to start a storybook collection. I went with the Disney Storybook Collections, since they're affordable, filled with colorful pictures, nicely made, and highly available. The first one we got was the Nursery Rhymes collection (it's the most "babyish" of all the books), followed by "Classic Stories", "Princess Stories", and "Happily Ever After" stories. They have lots of gender-neutral selections too. Now, at 4, they are still her favorite books and we read from them all the time. I will say, just to warn you, that the stories are a bit long for toddlers, but the nursery rhyme book was a big hit until she could handle the longer stories.

Do an Amazon search for "Disney Storybook Collection" and you'll find lots of titles, many with free shipping, for about $11 each. Hope your son has a great first Christmas!

Why not start an ornament collection for him. You can customize them and write cute little messages on them.

I have done the ornament idea, it's great. I've gotten my kids each an ornament of stuff they have been into during the year, and as they are older they put their ornamentsw on the tree and remember the things they used to like.
Can I also suggest a wagon? I got my son one at that age, it was great for us to bring him for walks in, and now that he is older he uses it to bring his animals for walks.
