and stuff you can use as Decor and in real life
like colorful shaped suctioncup slip proof animals (dinos, duckies, butterflies, angelfish,etc) for the bathtub that you can stick on the windows or walls for decor at the party.

What a neat idea! You might find a set of little rubber ducks for a dollar at the Dollar Tree (or Walmart has some ducks for $1 in the bath toys.) You could buy the fish net and fish in that same section and float the fish in water and let the kids scoop them up for a prize (zippy bag of cereal/prezels other snacks work great as a sub for candy.) A cute shower curtain hung over the entry door would set the mood- try freecycle.org in your area to see if you can get a cute shower curtain, bath caps (wouldn't the kiddos be cute in them?!) ducks ect.

You could get a package of bubbles very inexpensively for party favors. Bath crayons are fun, and you could give each child just one from a package. The Dollar Tree can be a great resource, look at all the bath section for ideas. They may also have bath themed scrapbook stickers you could use to decorate invitations. You could have a 'pin the tail on the duck' game.

How about rubber ducks? Check out oriental trading company on line. They have inexpensive deocrations/party favors/crafts. Keep food to a minimum, just cake and ice cream. Most people tend to overdo the first birthday....keep it simple and take pictures.

A bath theme is a very cute idea. You can make a bathtub cake very simply. bake two 9X13 cakes the first one makes the bottom. After it is done make it as flat as possible Then frost white. Freeze the other one for at least an hour and then cut a rectangle out of the middle and put it on top of the other then frost it white as well. You can use the jello jigglers recipe to put blue water it after it is frosted well. Mashmallows can be used for the faucet knobs. It makes a very cute cake. For decorations get a rope and make a clothes line and hang baby towels and washclothes. Fix a centerpiece from your babybath stuff. Powder, wash, shampoo, etc... If you have to print labels from the internet and cover other bottles. Theme favors could be bubbles, samples of soap and lotion, powder etc, you could make some easy soap molds for kids http://www.creativekidsathome.com/activities/activity_53.... Any type of rubber duckies, bottles filled with bubble bath/candy, If older kids are coming you could play games like wash the baby, played like pin the tail on the donkey but with a picture of the baby and a picture of a bar of soap, or you could get a bar of soap and get it wet and play hot potato of a soap relay game.

For games, pick up some shaped sponges and let the kids stamp (or finger/body paint) large pieces of white paper. Go to a couple salons and ask if you can have some empty shampoo bottles . You can use them for decorations, or if you want to get really creative you could clean them well and let people use them as cups for the drinks! First birthday's should just be close family and friends. Plan the party after lunch so you won't have to serve food! That is what I did this year! Make a cake for your son, this will be cheap and personal. Then make another cake or cupcakes for everybody else. His cake could have blue icing (vanilla with blue food coloring icing) with a rubber duck on top?!

Keep it very, very small :) We only did a first b-day w/our first b/c she had survived so much medically in that year.

My first thought is bubbles. Don't really need anything more w/ a one y.o.-it's so nice when they are so easy to please ;P

Go to Kinkos and photocopy (black and white) sailing ships,rubber duckies and other bathtime items.
Black and white is nine cents a copy; color is one dollar a copy.
Color each picture using Crayola (american made and lead free)crayons. Get help from neighbors, friends, and relatives, if available.
Some dollar type stores have a bag of rubber duckies, or other toys for very little. Be careful what you buy with the big recalls due to lead in toys.
Whatever you choose to use, keep choke hazard and other safety issues in mind as you decide where to display the decorations or what to provide as favors.
As for food, I would discuss this with the mothers of the other guests. Babies are notorious for food allergies.
The moms of othre one year olds would be your best source for information.

What about small rubber duckies? They could be decorations (in a small wading pool) and then the party favors to take home.
Also bubbles in small containers for activity during the party and for favors.
There are also cute washcloths that could be take home party favors.
A rubber duckie cake would be cute.

You could go on a site such as freecycle.org and ask for any unwanted rubber duckies. Along with that I have seen people use one of those rubber ducky blow up infant tubs for punch. That should be rather inexpensive. Also on freecycle you may find someone that has some unused rubber ducky invitations or baby shower decorations. Good Luck!

You've got a tight budget. Are you feeding people? or is this just for your little bundle of joy?

Favors:
Get a stack of white wash cloths and a bunch of small rubber duckies and place one small rubber ducky wrapped up in the wash cloth and tie a big yellow ribbon around it to give as party favors. You can get the washcloths and rubber ducks at walmart or $1 store.

Food:
Not sure if it's a finger food snacks or a meal bday
You can always do chips and dip. Veggie plate and cheese and meat tray. Easy and cheap. If it's a meal...it's gonna cost. How many people? It's always expensive to feed people. Can you have beer there and call it suds in a bucket? Just a thought.
You have to have soda and punch there too.

Decor: I'm stumped on decor.

Are you crafty and artistic? Make a cake and draw with icing a tub and a rubber duckie on it for sure.

At a year old, there's not alot that littles that age really enjoy. You might buy some dollar store sponges that go along with the bath theme and the kids can stack them push them around whatever - harmless to play with. Then they can be party favors that they could take home and bathe with.

I personaly like Rubber Duckies they are cute and you can get alot of duckie stuff cheap at walmart and the $1.00 store, and you could get some bubbles for everyone to blow when he is blowing out the candles. Dont know if it was what you were thinking of but that is what I would do. Let me know how it goes.

I don't know if you can still find them this time of year but clear christmas tree ornaments of all different sizes in a bucket with a scrub brush with a few ornaments hot glued to it would make a great centerpiece. You can even throw one of your sons rubber duckies on top...

What a CUTE idea for a first birthday!!! (I wish I had thought of it!)

Find the nearest dollar store and get some cheap wash rags and put some bubbles (the kind in the bottle that they blow) (also a great dollar store buy)and tie it closed with some spool rope with a piece of paper cut out to look like a bar of soap with "zest" or whatever soap you like on one side and "thank you for coming to my party" on the other. Tie it so it looks like soap on a rope! They can serve as your decorations and party favors at the same time. You can use your own towels as decorations by rolling them or folding them and placing them on the table. (this will really register with people if they are all the same color or are "tied" with the same rope as the favors.

I used a website (orientaltradingcompany.com) for my daughter's birthday. You can get a dozen rubberduckies for $6.

PS if you can't find christmas tree ornaments, buy some clear balloons and blow them up to different sizes (balloons may be more cost effective than ornaments anyway)

When I was first married we were inthe service which meant lots of moves and no room ever was the same
for bathrooms i would buy two or 3 shower curtains,
one went as it was meant, the rest i cut up to make window curtian, and then put a wrap around on a trash can or even brush holder, sosmetimes i would glue it on glasses, and if i was smart and had a flower or boat or something i would cut it out and perhaps put on the wall, so in the end i had a matching room for not to much

You could buy some little rubber ducks, they usually sell them for a couple for a dollar at most stores. You can also buy some regular square sponges from the dollar store and cut shapes out of them and let the kids dip them in paint and make a little picture. I know they are young, but usually there are some older kids there also. Or you can just let them keep fun shapes. Have them darw their own shape and cut it out for them to keep. You can cut out different size circles from blue construction paper and make them look like bubbles for decor and have little bottles of bubbles as well for the kids, instead of party hats you could do shower caps, well at least for the adults that would be funny. You could play a game and see who could get a little baby boll the cleanist in the bath.(a wash tub or something portable)I'm stumped on the food though. If it were me I wouldn't worry about relating the food to the theme maybe just the cake. Like a rubber duckie on a bubble pillow or something. Hope some of this helps.

Check craigslist for people selling that type of thing. Buy balloons in your colors and blow them up yourself - just let them sit around on the floor and counters - it's cute decoration and it saves tons on paying for helium which is ridiculously expensive. Good luck!!

If you really want to serve food, you can buy hot dogs, buns, and chips pretty cheaply. Does your son have a baby bathtub? You could fill it with blue-frosted cupcakes for a unique cake idea, and then use some of his pre-existing rubber duckies for decorations and center pieces. A pack of blue balloons can also help with the decorating. For an activity with the kids (if they're all young), you can blow bubbles. If you don't have other kids, you can skip favors. Adult relatives don't need favors. If there are only a few kids, you could buy $1 board books at Dollar General. I've also bought 3/$1 bubbles at Dollar Tree. Good luck and have fun!

A bath theme. You can always get some cheap sponges and cut them out in different shapes and animals. you can also get wash clothes and cut into shapes and animals. Give them out as gift bag items. Bottles of bubbles also come east to get and not really expensive. as for food, well i am not sure on that because one yr olds dont really eat solids yet so clueless on that. Have fun..

you could use white and baby blue balloons for bubbles, but don't us helium, if they are floating on the floor they will look more like bubbles, you can even tie some to chairs and doors and such to build some volume, you can also use yellow construction paper and make lots of rubber ducks to put all around the house, and then at Walmart, you can purchase a few real ones for decorations and they could also be part of your childs gift. You can probably print out a template from the internet. You could also dress your child in a bath rob for the party. Hope that this helps.

My suggestion would be to go on line and look up images that have to do with your theme. Print them out, enlarge the image (at a copy place) and then color them, paste them on cardboard and place on walls as decorations. For food, I would suggest finger foods, so it comes out cheaper for you. Favors, you can look for rubber duckies at the dollar store. Good luck and hope my suggestions help u out. I went to the Dollar Tree dollar store the other day and they had some really cute stuff there that would be within your theme and budget. They had some cute under the sea decals in the home improvement isle that would work for decorations. And they have a pretty good selection in their party isle, plus party favors. You can also get balloons there and they inflate them for you at no extra cost. Hope this helps!

For sure get blue koolade and put it in a punch bowl. You can usually get little rubber ducks from the dollar store, just make sure to wash one really well and float it in the punch...they also make great favors. Also, I would get bubbles as favors...not bath bubbles since they tend to irritate and cause urinary infections, but regular blowing bubbles, also at the dollar store. You can get bath crayons and little plastic baskets that look like bath caddies (at the dollar store) and little washcloths or hand towels there too. Cute theme, good luck.

My dear S.--I understand your desire to celebrate your son's birth, but at one year of age he won't have a clue about the festivities or the occasion. The party would be for the adults. Save your money. I suggest you give him your undivided, special attention and tell him why the day means so much to you--perhaps a cake you bake with a big candle. Add to the money you save incrementally each year and wait for a time when he really needs something and/or apply to his education. Lots of yellow rubber ducks!... I used them at my baby shower... when we didn't have hardly any money... A cheap cake from the store bakery, or one--you bake yourself... and decorate it, with cute bath things for babies...There are a lot of cute bath things at Walmart.... Cute idea--- a bath theme!!!!--- I like it!... My baby's first b-day is coming up, and I am spending waaaaaayyy too much, on just favors, for the little ones... not smart!!!!! And I am sooo good at bargain shopping... I thought! i think that the bathtub cake is a good idea. you would only need to buy 2 box cake mix and icing. thats pretty cheap. and i wouldnt do favors. its your childs first bday. and you want to spend the money you have on your child. i think everyone will understand. i would deffinently check out the dollar store for some decorations. and little duckies are a perfect touch and you get to keep them.

Get or borrow one of those shallow wading pools, the kind that's about $5. Put it in the yard if it's warm enough, or on a shower curtain in the family room, and float some little yellow duckies. Make a cake or cupcakes. Have fun!
