This may sound silly, but I also keep a small sewing kit in my first aid kit. You never know when you will need a needle and thread! It has actually come in handy a few times! :)
What do I need for a home first aid kit? Of course I have the basics: bandaids, Tylenol, ice pack. What else have you found to be helpful? Thanks!

In addition to those things already mentioned, I would add:
tweezers
scissors
eye wash/cup
Caladryl or Calamine Lotion
Benedryl (topical cream & oral medication)
"Wrap" (that flesh colored, stretchy piece of fabric you can use to wrap an ankle, knee, etc. It's also a good way to secure the ice pack on an area.
I agree about having a small first aid kit in your car as well. We purchased a small one for about $10 that has all the basics, and has come in handy for small scrapes and such at the park or other outings.
Good luck!

The only other things I've used often are antiseptic (either wipes or a bottle), antibiotic cream and cotton balls.
Your basic items: bandaids (several sizes), gauze, tape, scissors, peroxide, cotton balls, Qtips, burn ointment, rubber gloves, aspirins, antiseptic wipes, calimine lotion, benadryl, gauze wrap (wrist/knee), needle thread good idea, extra large bandaids and anything else you can think of.
You can buy them already made (small or really large) at the drug stores - CVS, Walgreen's, etc. I keep one in the car as well as one at home and have used them a lot. The car one has wipes in it, fire blanket, things I wouldn't think to include. The only problem is that things do expire (medications) so you do have to update your supply.
BTW, I lived in Bloomington for a year and loved it there. It was so beautiful (especially in the fall!) Welcome back to TX.
To make it really simple, I bought a first aid bundle. It has everything I thought I needed and then some. I found it on eHealthSource.com. My friend recommended the site to me because she has been saving so much money on it. The kit only cost me around 50 bucks and the shipping was free! They are generic supplies but I find they work really great. Just google "ehealthsource' and check it out!
