Finding a New Doctor.

Hi Mommies! I am a mother of a two year old boy, and number two is on the way! I am new to the Puyallup area and I am looking for a doctor in the area. My last doctor provided straight forward care but lacked sensitivity. I am looking for a balance of information and compassion. I know this last request is silly but I also felt a little ripped of when it came to ultrasounds, we only had two with baby number one! My husband and myself feel it would have been nice to see more of baby's development. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I had the same problem with my doctor with my daughter. Then I found Dr. Edstrom of Dedicated Women's Health (about 2 blocks from Good Sam). My doc was out of town when my DD was born and Dr Edstrom was on call. Very sweet man, very compassionate and his office staff is very caring and attentive. I have had a series of complications w/ a m/c about 6 months ago and Dr Edstrom would call me after business hours to go over lab results or answer my questions. Their head nurse also called at least once a week following the m/c to check in with me to see how I was doing. I HIGHLY recommend them!! I agree with the gal who said that most insurance co's only cover a couple ultrasounds, but Dedicated Wmn's Hlth offers the 3D one for a fee. I know of several other ladies in my MOPS group that go to either Dr Edstrom or Dr Taggert at Sound Family.

Congratulations and blessings to you and your family!

We go to Sound Family Medicine in Puyallup - my doctor and our son's is Dr Grubb and my husband sees Dr Aversa -they are family practice docs but both delivery babies. We love being able to have a "one stop shop" for all our medical needs. Also I really liked the continuity of having the doctor who delivered my son continue to care for both of us! They do have an untrasound machine there and I think we had 3 done while I was pregnant but didn't ask for more - I would assume that they would do more if you asked for them. We have also seen a few other doctors there when ours couldn't get us in and everyone we have seen has been good. Good Luck!

I also went to Debra McAllister after I had a very bad experience with another OB that would not listen to my concerns. I ended up switching to Dr. McAllister when I was at 34 weeks. She did a great job when it came to listening to my concerns & answering my long list of questions without making me feel rushed. I don't know how many ultrasounds she usually does, but I know they usually try to keep them to a minimum.
I would recommend Dr. McAllister to everyone, and she also works out of two different offices in Puyallup, so it makes it more convenient depending on where you are located.

I don't know if any in Puyallup, but I absolutely love my ob/gyn who is in Covington. I've kept him when we lived over in West Seattle and Bellevue because I didn't want to change! His name is Calvin Wallace. He's with Multicare in Covington. He does provide straight forward care but is also compassionate. I had quite a few ultrasounds with when I was pregnant with my daughter. I loved getting to see her so frequently! =) If you're willing to drive for a great doctor, he's your man! Here's a link to his page on Multicare's website:

Hope that helps!

I went to a great lady at the Good Sam Women's Center. Her name was Debra McCallister. She was SOOO sweet and she answered any question I had thoroughly. The only problem I had was that she didn't deliver my baby, there are three other doctors in the same office and they take turn being "on-call" and she wasn't "on call" the saturday I gave birth. A male doctor was, which I really didn't want, but he ened up being really nice and I liked him. I think his name was Dr. Majors.

We only did 2 ultrasounds though. She only does more if she suspects a problem. My second we were able to have half the pictures in 2d and half in 3d (upon our request).

First off, congrats! I don't know of any OB's down here as I still go to one in Renton that I had before I moved to Puyallup. But when it comes to the ultrasounds usually only a couple are done because insurance will not pay for more. If there is a complication in the pregnancy the doctor can request additional ultrasounds. My husband and I went and got an additional 3D ultrasound during my last pregnancy, but we had to pay for that up front, but that's another option if you want another ultrasound.
