I've never owned a pool and can't give you advice about filling your pool but I do suggest you use something other than chlorine if you'll treat the water. There are saline solutions (baking soda, etc) that even hotel pools are using, so you might research that. Happy swimming!

We looked into this once and were given the advice that if you fill in a pool you will lose resale value. Considering the recent plummit of resale values it may not matter, but the advice we were given was to build a deck over the existing pool so that the next buyer could still get it replastered and have a pool without the expense. I guess that depends on whether you're getting it filled for safety purposes or to get a large part of your yard back.

HI Nikki,

We filled in the pool at the very first home we purchased. It was a foreclosure and actually had a dead squirrel floating in it when my husband signed the papers....originally, I was mortified but it turned out to be a lovely house. Not only was there a pool but the entire back yard was paved! Luckily the concrete served as a lot of the fill dirt so we didn't have to purchase a lot. We hired a pool company to do it and we never had any problem with the fill settling. Call a few dealers around town and see what they recommend. You might even want to google it.

My mom filled in her in-ground pool. Get a professional company. We call hers "the pool that won't die" because as the random fill settled, you keep seeing the edges coming through. You will need LOTS and LOTS of dirt for this.....

I filled in my dads last year and buying the fill is the cheap part its the trucking that kills you. I bought a dump trailer and did all the trucking myself. I saved enough to buy the trailer but I had a loader I could load with at the gravel pit and my dad had one to move it around the pool so it worked well and never setteled.
Dont forget to have your taxes lowered too ,they really raise them when they are put in and have to lower them when they are taken out.
