Fibroid Tumors

I had tumors also. I wasn't suppose to get pregnant after my three year old daughter at the time. My OB/GYN basically left a smidge of ovary after my surgery. I thought my world was over, since I still wanted more children. To make a long story short, after the surgery in Oct. I still had horrible periods & lots of pain. I thought in late March that I was expecting, but told myself that the doctor told me I'd not get pregnant again. Well WRONG, I got pregnant! I took test on 4/2, positive. I then miscarried a couple of weeks later. I then again thought my world was over, but had to go to OB/GYN for follow-up which took about 6 weeks to get in. Well after losing the baby...my doctor told me that I still felt pregnant. Had ultrasound done then still had triplets. It was & is a joyous experience. I had to have a total hysterectomy after they were born, but don't regret it one bit. I am pain free & don't have all the hormaonal things that go with a hysterectomy. I had a fibroid turmor on my uterus. They removed my uterus but left both ovraries. I don't have to take hormones and I even lost some weight. You might ask your doctor about that. I had my surgery when I was 35 and it was 2 years after I had my tubes tied. My fibroid turmor was present with my last pregancy. I'm now 41 and have no problems and love not having to mess with hormones pills. Hope this helps.

I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago and let me tell you it was the best thing every. I had endmetriosis and had severe bleeding and cramping for years after my 2nd child. It go progressivly worse. I have a 13 yr old girl and 11 yr old son. I was scared at first but made it through the surgery. I have kept both of my ovaries and haven't had to go through any hormone therapy. I've not had mood swings, PMS, extreme tiredness. All in all I'm fantastic. So if this is the option for you, I would seriously look into it. It was a good decision for me.

I personally don't have experience with this, but my 30yo girlfriend had the same scenario, they were going to remove her uterus. BEFORE SCHEDULING YOUR SURGERY DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!! Her gut said this wasn't right and canceled the surgery. She found someone who did a laparoscopic (sp?) procedure and she kept everything in tact. We live in one of the BEST places in the country for medical care - I have no doubt that you can find someone locally who specializes in this type of procedure.

I too had to have the surgery at a young age. I was 35 and had two beautiful children from my first marriage. Although the reasoning for mine was different. I had endometriosis. It was the best decision I made. The usual side effect were expected, but after about 3 years that all disappeared and I feel better than ever. I'm now in my 40's and I have friends that are just starting peri menepause. I'm just glad I got it over with as early as I did. Just find a good and compasionate doctor to help yo through it.

I had the same problem.....along with a ton of others. I still want two more kids but it took a year of fertility treatments to concieve my son so I had a total hysterectomy two years ago. The pain and suffering with no gurantees of another child did not seem worth pushing off the inevitable. I take hormones and mood regulators daily but am painfree and much happier than I had been for years. Aside from the occasional evil thoughts at pregnant women the surgery was one of the best choices I made. After all I can always adopt painfree later. Good luck in whatever decision you make.
Ps: I had an ovary and tube removed, this did not help. I had them scraped, no help. I had them shrunk, painful, and no help. I had tube tied, no help. I tried several pill therapies that only made me sick. There are a lot of options. Just remember sometimes you are simply prolonging the pain.

My sister in law had fibroid tumors also and she did alot of research on the and found out that if she became a vegetarian it would help shrink the tumors, which she did and shrunk them drastically but still had to go in and have them removed but didn't have to take her uterus. She was a vegetarian for 1 and 1/2 years. Just a hint. Check it out do the research if you don't want to have a hysterrectomy (SP?)But I also have 2 other sister in laws who have had one and do take hormones and it just depends on the person. And the stress in their life. K.

I hope you will keep me informed, because I am going through the same decisions, what to do. I have several tumors in my uterus wall and my OB/GYN wants to remove my uterus. But do to breast cancer I cannot take hormones, so I am checking with my oncologist for his thought. I am in my mid 40's and childbirth is no longer a choice for me. I'll let ya know.

I have the tumors. I have been having them since 1995 when I was pregnant with my first child. That is the year I found out about them. I recently had my second child in 2005. At that time, the doctor removed one of them- the biggest one at the time since it caused my child to be breeched and had to have a c-section. Anyway, I have been living with those things since then and I have not had any problems with them except for in pregnancy. Other than that, I am fine. I guess I am one of the lucky ones so far-knock on wood. I have contemplated surgery. I will not go as far as removing my uterus because there are other things you can do besides that. Uterus removal is usually the first option the doctors give. Research and ask questions before going that drastic. You can have them shrunk by a radiologist, you have them removed by myomectomy or you can just live with them if they are not bothering that much. If you wish to have anymore children, I will have the myomectomy since the shrinking of the fibroids can cause miscarriages if you were to get pregnant as far as what I have read on that subject. Whatever you do, make sure you ask plenty of questions before moving forward should you wish to have anymore kids in the future. Good Luck.
