Usually the fever goes away in a day or two after starting the antibiotic. It is possible she has something viral as well. I would give a call to the pediatrician and run it by them.
My three-year-old daughter came down with a fever Saturday that went up to 103.5. We controlled it with motrin and tylenol and thought maybe she was getting a stomach bug. It seemed like her belly was queazy or in pain at times, but then she still had an appetite. On Sunday we took her to an urgent care because we thought her throat looked red (possible strep) and the doctor just diagnosed with mild ear infections and gave her amoxicillin. Monday she woke up without a fever, but then it went up to 101 later in the day and up again in the evening. Today her temp stayed normal all day until this evening when it was 100.0 (not high, but not normal for her). Is it possible she is fighting off a virus that had no other symptoms? She doesn't usually get a fever with an ear infection, but we're wondering if that might be a cause? She's never really had a situation where it seemed like her fever broke, but then kept creeping back up for a few days (we're going into day 5 now). Anyone experience something similar? Thank you for your help!

Similar situation for us this weekend! Our Doctor said bring her in if there are accompanying symptoms (vomiting, red throat, ear pain, coughing), if it went to 105 (!!), didn't go down with medications, was still there after three days, or if she was unresponsive, lethargic, or dehydrated. What does your pediatrician say? Fevers are good but that seems a little long to me!
My kids both had a virus w no other symptoms than fever about a month ago...same w my nieces (which they picked up somewhere else, not from us)... So there appears to be something going around. Ours didn't linger too long though. Best wishes! Hope your little one feels better soon!
Fever is the body's way of fighting infection, and even if she's on antibiotics, it does take up to 10 days for the infection (bacterial, not viral which does not respond to antibiotics) to be eliminated. It is very common for fevers to spike in the evening.
If she's not uncomfortable, I wouldn't treat the fever, because it is a natural way to combat illness. But if she's miserable, of course give her meds to help her feel better.
Ear infections can definitely cause fever, but yes, she could have a virus too. Sounds like it is getting better slowly so you are going in the right direction. Stay the course and keep her on her antibiotic. Have her checked after the 10 days to be sure it's all clear.
Does she get ear infections often? If so consider getting her on a probiotic or eating yogurt on a regular basis. Might stave off future problems.
Just keep giving her the antibiotic. Is it a 10 day course? Lsat time my baby had strep she still had fever on day 5 of the antibiotic. I would finish the course and if she still has fever of course take her back. She may just need something different.

This sounds like what my daughter used to do when she would get ear infections. Her fever would go up and and down for a few days. Amoxicillin my not be strong enough. My daughter had to finally have tubes in her ears. Hope she gets better.
