Hello Mamas, please help...I've been having a 100 degree fever every 3 hours, started 2 days ago in the evening, took Advil, then again yesterday morning, was fine most of the day, fever came back at 7, 10, 1am & 5am Took advil to relieve fever symptoms. Have no other signs of illness except for feeling sick once the fever starts...any ideas or advice. How long can I even take the Advil for?

What can I do next?

Be careful on keeping the fever down too much, sometimes fever is the body's way of fighting off infection. If it is only 100, try letting it go for a little while and only take something if it goes up over 101.

I would definityl call the doctor in the meantime, if you have no other symptoms, maybe a simple blood test can determine the cause.

If it continues to cycle this way, be sure to see your doctor, it can be a kidney infection, which, if untreated can land you in the hospital on IV antibiotics.

Stop taking the Advil. A fever is the body's way of fighting off infections. Once the fever gets above 102, THEN you take Tylenol to bring it down. Keep yourself hydrated and rest as much as possible.

Have you been checked for the flu? I had the flu a couple of weeks ago and the syptoms are kind of mild this year. Mostly fever only part of the day, headache and body aches... espcially if you had a flu shot. Just a thought.

Are you breastfeeding? if so, do you have any lumps in your breast? You could have an infection if that is the case. The Dr. will call you in some antibiotics.....that is the only thing I can think of that hasn't been mentioned yet....

I'd stay off of the advil for a while and let the fever try and run its course... The fever is your own antibodies fighting with the offenders... the heat comes during the battle. When you take the advil you stop hinder your own immune system and prolong the illness. This has been my experience with fevers. Take a cool shower if you get too hot, but don't add chemicals to your body if you can help it. Sounds flu-ish. Keep yourself hydrated and REST. The body heals itself best when you are resting.

I wouldn't take any advil unless you can't sleep or your fever is really high (100 is not high). Let it run its course, a fever is your body's way of fighting an infection. Most important - stay hydrated!!

Hope you feel better soon.
