Hello mamas,
My 2-year old's feet are pointing in while she's walking. Is this I should be concerned with? I don't want her to grow up with her feet still pointing in, should I be doing something about it rith now or will she grow out of it?

What can I do next?

It is usually called intoeing. My daughter has this also. It is quite commonn actually. The toes point inward because one of the bones in the leg are actually turned inward. For my daughter it is the tibia and they call this tibial tortion. My daughter saw a specialist at Children's that told us she will most likely grow out of it within a couple years. If she has a severe case and it does not correct itself there could be other options when she is older around 9-10 years old. It is just kind of a watch and wait thing. Years ago they used to use leg braces to correct this but studies have shown that these braces have no effect on correcting the problem any faster. Here are some links to answer some questions you may have. Don't worry though, she will probably just grow out of it. Bring it up at her next appt. so the doc can have a look to.

Yvette,
Both of my youngest daugters feet did this. For my 2y/o the doctor just had us do some therapy with her feet-rotating them in circles, moving them from side to side-things like that. For my 1 y/o I thought things were really bad-she kept turning her feet in and tripping over them all the time. I took her to the doc, had x-rays and everything came back noraml(she doesnt do it all the time). I would ask your doc just to be safe, but I guess now they take more of a wait and see approach. Back in the day they used to put braces and stuff on the kids legs(my finace had that done)now my doc said they wait until the kids are 7 or 8 b/c they usually outgrow it. Email me if you have anymore questions. Good luck!

My daughter ahs this too. Sh eis 2 1/2 yrs old. My dr said its becasue her hips are not aligned and she will grow out if it. It will take a while though. She said the way to tell if they are pigion toed is if when you look at the bottom of her feet if they look like they are in a shape of a "C" then you will have it looked at. My daughter was not. She still turn her feet in when she walks, but it does seem to be getting better. She also told me when she sits make sur eshe sits with her feet ou tin front of her, but behind her like most kids try and sit.

Hope this helps
C.

I would say see a chiropractor! I love mine!! She is awesome!! She also adjusts my children. They love her and my 5 yr old always tells me how much better she feels after. I see Dr. Lisa Hodges in Munster, IN. If you want the number write me and I will give it to you.

Hello Yvette,
My now 13 year old still has this. I noticed it at an early age. I would suggest talking to the peds docs for a referral to a ped ortho doc. The first time my daughter was check out we were told it was form inutero development and she shoudl outgrow it by age 10. The next Ortho doc diagnosed it as Femoral anteversion. For her it stems form the hips. we had many a time when she woudl trip over her own feet! The only solution for her isw surgery that would leave a large scar along her thigh. Not an option! Otherwise she is fine. It does not bother her. It is worth looking into though and your child's may be only the foot. Best wishes for yuour child!
Take Care,
M.

Sometimes the feet can be turnes in because the sacrum is out of alignment. This usually happens in little ones that fall on their butt alot. A few chiropractic treatments helps fix that problem. I am a chiro that specializes in children in Villa Park. If you want more info just let me know.
