Eye Exams for 1-5 Year Olds

I have a 4 yr. old, 11 yr. old & a 17 yr. old, and have been using the same optometry practice in Lake Forest for about 6 years. The 2 main doctors (Dr. Slosar & Dr. Kidder) are excellent (& have excellent credentials). All the support staff have been there as long as I've been going, and they've always been top-notch professionals & very kind. As far as seeing an ophthalmologist, unless your child has a known serious eye condition &/or your pediatrician has suggested you see one, a doctor of optometry is all you need. An ophthalmologist is a M.D. who treats serious eye conditions...the optometrist takes care of basic eye exams & overall eye health. You should see an ophthalmologist. My daughter was born with a lazy eye and started seeing one at 6 months. We now see Dr. Nankin down by Mission Hospital. ###-###-####. We have only seen him since we moved to OC when my daughter was in 6th grade. He is kind and calm but never on time.

My son's doctor recommend Dr Sydney J Weiss, he is located by Mission Hospital. He was really good with my son...he has been seeing him since he was about 1 month old due to an enlarged pupil.

Dr. Jennifer Simpson at UCI (in Orange) is fantastic. Great with kids and very smart too. She's an opthomalogist. She has another office (not in Orange) but I'm not sure where it is located.

AV Eyes in Aliso Viejo is real good... we've been going there for years. Dr. Rich is really good with kids....... he has things to make it comforting as well as fun for them.

Ask your pediatrician first. Your pediatrician should be conducting a basic eye exam at each well check. Depending on those results, she may need to see an eye doctor.
