Experience with Blighted Ovum and Subsequent Pregnancies?

My husband and I are trying to have a baby. I had to have a D&C in January due to a miscarriage. When we went for our first ultrasound, there was nothing but a gestational sac, and they took us in a room and called it a blighted ovum and told us we would miscarry. My next period isn't due until the 26th, but I started getting faint positive results about 3 days ago. Today I purchased a clear blue and it said "pregnant" 1-2 weeks (which means 2-3 weeks). We are so excited and so afraid at the same time. We don't want to go through another miscarriage. Has anyone had an experience like ours, and if so, how did it turn out? Are there any signs we can lookout for to let us know either way if this will be a healthy pregnancy?

What can I do next?

NB, I understand your anxiety about miscarriage. I've had a few and frankly, by the time we got pregnant with our son, I had given up hope of having kids.

What I can share with you was my attitude when I found out I was pregnant with my son. I decided to take a chance and just relax and enjoy being pregnant, for however long that meant. Knowing that some things are beyond one's control is hard to grasp. That said, you should know that statistically, something like 80% of women with this went on to give birth to a healthy baby within 5 years. (http://www.whattoexpect.com/pregnancy/blighted-ovum) I don't recommend Dr Google, necessarily, but I think these are good numbers. Try to enjoy this pregnancy. The only way to know if the pregnancy ends up being a healthy, progressing one is just time and checking in at the appropriate doctor's visits.Best wishes.

Welcome to mamapedia!

I'm sorry. This is tough. I've had 3 miscarriages - one at 22 weeks.

There is nothing you can do. You just need to breathe and take care of yourself.

I think nowadays are just downright cruel. Back in the dark ages...lol...when women got pregnant they missed a period, might have noticed, might not. Then they missed a second period. Went to doc by that third month and got a test results. They had about 5 months to "be" pregnant. Such as wear maternity clothes, talk about being pregnant, enjoy being pregnant and soak up all the attention for being pregnant.

They just didn't know about half the time that they were pregnant until the first trimester was over and if they had a miscarriage they probably didn't even know it. No heart break or jumping up to take a home pregnancy test. Just to be disappointed if it isn't positive right when a person wants it to be.

I feel so sorry for some future moms these days. They get a few weeks pregnant and before you know it they're all over everywhere "We're pregnant" and then something happens. Today it's just so much more pain and much longer.

I am sorry for your issue in January.

Please just give it time. Put away all that stuff and when you've missed a couple of periods then go test and see what happens.
