Well my daughter has had exema since the day she was born. I have always had it pretty much under control. Recently she has been having a real problem with the creams we have been using. She has exema really bad on her hands and no matter what cream I use her hands turn all red and burn. Does anyone have any ideas?? I have used vasaline, aquafor, aveno, eucrin, cetaphil, luberderm I Have tried it all.

What can I do next?

Have you tried a mineral make up company? My daughter had severe exema for years and she still gets a pinch of it on her face every now and then (she's 12) and we've been through every lotion, soap, treatment name it. When she was born we had to stop giving her formula and switch her to soy based to see if it was caused from a milk allergy, we were told to stick with dove soap and it would help a little but never enough. She's had it horrible for years. A couple months ago I started with a company called Mineral Girlz it's a mineral make up company and they have soaps and lotions, etc everything that is great for skin. Her exema has cleared up only a couple little bumps by her chin is all she gets anymore! I use the make up and at 33 years old finally have the best skin of my life I swear it clears acne right up! Their soaps contain tea tree oil and the benefits are amazing! You can even join the company free to get a shopping discount (the whole reason I joined it so I can get the product cheaper!) http://www.mineralgirlz.com/members/M./creationz.htm

Hi :) I can only say that for the same reason I took my son to the dr. He prescribed a cream for it, and it works very well. The only problem is that I am at work (shhh) and I don't have the cream with me to tell you the name that works for him. When I go home I will look at the name of it and email it to you.

My best-friend is a Pediatric Nurse & she also has a son with the same excema problem. She ended up having to get him a Rx for a Steroid cream called Elocon, generic is called Mometasone. It cleared his up by the end of the same day! You only have to use a tiny bit, once a day until it's clear, then continue with the moisturizers like Aveeno & Aquaphor all the time, bathe your daughter less and when you do, make sure you use like an Aveeno or even Walmart brand, Oatmeal bath so as not to dry her skin out. If you have highly chlorinated water, put a couple drops of baby oil in also..that should really help.

Hi A.,

Oh, your poor little girl! Eczema is just miserable, and to have it on her hands must be a nightmare. After our second son was born the skin on my hands became horribly itchy, dry and inflamed, (from the constant washing - washing my hands, washing bottles, the baby, my 2-year old...), and everything I tried seemed to make it worse - even aquaphor. Eventually I tried 'Burt's Bees Baby Bee Buttermilk Cream' and it worked. It was in a set somebody gave us as a gift so I have no idea how much it would cost or where you'd get it, but it was the only thing that helped.

I hope you find something that helps soon.

I have had eczema since I was around 8 years old, most severely on my ankles, but also on my elbows and knees. I have never found over-the-counter lotions to work, except for the Eczema Body Wash from Baby Orajel. You can find it on amazon.com, but I've found it at the pharmacy (in the baby shampoo section) and even in the supermarket.

I don't know if the doctor can prescribe medicine with steroids at your daughter's age, but here's how I've always managed my eczema. My doctor prescribed Elocon (I like the clear ointment better than the cream) or the generic "mometasone furoate," which I put on twice a day. Then, I wrap my ankles in plastic wrap (like Saran Wrap) and put socks on over the plastic for a few hours. You could try that, and use some spa-type gloves instead of socks.

This is how the dermatologist told me to treat it as a child, and I've been doing the routine for over 14 years now. When I slack off, the eczema flares right back up again, so I think it could be a treatment worth talking to your doctor about. Good luck!

hydrocortozone cream 1%... cortozone 10 with aloe was the best... put it on before bed and it would look a million times better in the morning. If not try a dermatologist for ideas.

i use a cream called "udderly smooth" for the eczema on my hands. i've found it at CVS and Rite Aid...it's in a little white tub with black cow spots on it. it helps and doesn't burn (unless i have really bad cracking, then it stings a bit). had your pediatrician recommended anything? my step dad also swears by cornstarch...

hope you find something that works!

Hi A.,
Have you ever heard of Melaleuca and Renew lotion? I know numerous people with exzema that this lotion has helped by completely relieving their symptoms. Also you may want to check the soap your using with her some contain Quanternium 15 which is a formaldehyde and can cause more break outs. If you'd like I could send some Renew for you to try on her. I wish you the best and I hope daughter gets some relief.

Call the doctor and ask if he/she will give you a RX for Elidal I think I spelled it wrong. My son has it also and that works great for him. It is non-steriodal so it is safe to use at any age I even use it on my 1 year old boy he gets it behind his ears and his belly-button area. They sometimes have samples at their offices maybe you can get some samples to try out before you get a script. If your ped. won't give you a script ask to see a Dermatoligst they will give you a script and watch it to make sure it does not get worst. Hope this helps out. L.

I have exama on my hands, I dont know how old your child is but there are perscription creams that work quite well and I think that eledel (probably spelt wrong) can be used on children because it does not contain a steriod. I have learned a trick for when they are really bad but I doubt a child will let you do this. You can put the cream on and then wrap hands in seran wrap and then put a sock over that before bed, I was amazed at how well this works but like I said, I doubt a child will go for it.

Hi A.,
I was told by another Mom to use Neutrogena Hand Cream. I used and still use it twice a day for my 14 month old son and it keeps the excema under control. It's the only thing that worked for us.

HI A.,
I am Irish w/ very fair and sensitive skin. I have had ecsema my entire life! The best way to surive it is to do aveno bath treatments a few times a week. But be careful it is very slippery. Sometimes the creams can be to harsh, even though they say otherwise. Also keep her hand dry. When she washes them dry them really well. When they are damp it irritates them. Also go fragrance free w/ everything. But mostly detergents, soap and lotions. But be sure to carefully read the labels. SOme may say "sensative skin" or "fragrance free" but they are not. It may sound like alot of work, but it will bevcome very routine. Please feel free to let me know how things trun out!!!

hi my son has exema and has had since birth but up until about 5 or 6 yrs ago thats all he had at least that was what i was told. he was prone to getting broncitis everytime he got an ear infection or a cold it would go directly to the lungs. well 5 or 6 yrs ago my son got an ear infection and broncitis and his oxygen level was on border line which is a big no no so they put him in the hospital the ped. said that he had asthma and that exema was a symptom of asthma. well before i found this out i to would treat the exema with creams and other stuff and nothing really worked but when we started treating the asthma the exema cleared right up. now my son is almost 15 and his exema is localized to the places where it bends like elbows and knees and feet but it will flares up when he gets sick but only on his ears. i suggest you talk with your ped and do some research of your own on the internet if you can and keep lotion on him try not to use to much powder he is already dry you need to keep him moist. good luck

Both my sons and I have suffered from severe eczema. One of the best things I have found is pure lanolin. Lansinoh is the brand I use and you can usually be found near the breatfeeding products because it is used for sore nipples for nursing moms. I also use Gentle Naturals Eczema cream. Target cares this near the baby lotions. Because the lanolin is so thick mixing it with the Gentle Naturals cream works good. It makes it easier to spread and soaks in better. Besides just treating the symptoms of eczema you may want to find out what your childs triggers are. There is no real cure for eczema but an eczema outbreak is usually triggered by something. For both my sons and my self certain foods are triggers. Both my sons can't have any dairy or soy products or they get severe eczema. With me it is dairy products. If you think food may be the cause of your childs eczema I can give you more info on how we deal with it.

Hi A.,

I have a home daycare and I have had several children with exema and I myself also have it from time to time on my hands. First if you are using any antibacterial soaps I would stop using them. They tend to irritate the exema. At night if possible is the best time to put cream on your daughters hands. I would either go to the doctor and get a perscription for a cream or use an over the counter 1% cortisone cream. If she gets the red sore cracks on her fingers it is good to put the cream on then a band aid over the crack at night it helps the cream soak in. when she washes her hands during the day use a mild soap and apply hand cream while her hands are still a litte wet to help the hand cream keep her hands moist. Good luck and I hope I helped a little. L.
