Yes our school system uses Everyday Math. My kids do whatever is required in class and whatever is assigned for homework.
Are there optional lessons that you're referring to?
If so, does your child do the lessons?
At my daughter's school the lessons are not mandatory. You can do them if you like. She does them sometimes, so I was trying to see what everyone else's experience was. My daughter is in Kindergarten.

At our school Everyday Math is our official math teaching method. My sons always do all their homework but I usually don't have them do any non-mandatory work unless they want to do it. My first grader already had a hard time with the fact that he doesn't have so much playtime anymore so I don't want to bog him down with even more work. Kids need to be able to be kids, play and explore the world around them. I really think whatever math and writing they do at school is more than enough, especially in Kindergarten and 1st grade. On the other hand, they both are very smart and they don't have any problems with math, reading or writing. Maybe if I felt that they fall behind, I would have them do some of the extra work.
My son is in kindergarten and it's the same. They have some homework and projects they turn in for grades and then a bunch of supplemental Everyday Math stuff they can do whenever they or you want. We love it! I'm amazed at how far my son has come in mathematics this year! He thinks it's fun, so we do a lot of it.
