Hi,
I am due pretty soon and was wondering if anyone has feedback on the Maternity ward for either the Evanston Hospital or the Skokie Hospital.
Thank You

I've never been to Skokie Hosptial, but I delivered twice at Evanston and can't say enough wonderful things about it. I loved, loved, loved my labor and delivery nurses both times (different teams, each time I cycled through 3 nurses...)

Good luck!

Evanston's maternity ward is huge but up to date and very modern. Skokie, just recently being merged with NorthShore, is still a nice hospital but quite old and needs a lot of remodeling work. Staffing and care at both places would be comparable though, as it is NorthShore again. If it were me, I'd go to Evanston because of their updated facilities.

I delivered at Evanston and they were WONDERFUL. I ended up with an unplanned c-section, and my baby had to be in the ISCU for a couple of days. From the nurses and staff during labor and delivery/surgery, through to the postpartum nursing staff, medical staff in the ISCU, lactation consultants, social workers, etc etc, everyone was so kind, professional, attentive and supportive. I also felt very confident about the level of medical care we all received.
There were a couple of maternity ward nurses in particular (Jessica & Pai) who were amazing, and I really missed them when I returned home after a week.
I don't know what kind of birth you are hoping for, but I went in wanting a natural, drug-free birth (I had the labor room with the labor tub) and found everyone to be very supportive, and felt empowered throughout the decisions that eventually led to a c-section.
I also am very pro-breastfeeding and despite not being able to do so immediately because my son had to go to the ISCU, the nurses and lactation consultants were so very helpful and were very supportive in that regard too.
I have no hesitation in recommending Evanston.

Good luck!

I have also heard that Skokie ward is no longer open, and all deliveries are at Evanston. Check with your provider to confirm that but I think the choice has been made for you!

I am at an OB practice that uses Northshore too and from what I understand, Skokie Hospital does not do deliveries anymore. I am delivering soon at Evanston and am very confident, in part to the glowing reviews I got from this site!

Hi,

I am a pediatrician and mommy of two and both were delivered at Evanston Hospital and they are awesome! The nurses are superb and I cannot tell you how great an experience I had there. The comfort of having an intensive care unit there for your baby just in case is a must in my book. I experienced both a c-section and vaginal delivery there. You should feel very comfortable going to Evanston.

I delivered twice at Evanston Hospital (most recently 3 weeks ago) and have no complaints. Staff were all very nice. I've never delivered anywhere else so have nothing to compare it to, but have nothing bad to say.

Hi,

I work for NorthShore University HealthSystem (Evanston Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital, Highland Park Hospital and Skokie Hospital) and Abi is right below. There is no OB delivery done there. Evanston Hospital is great! I personally did not delivery my son there due to living downtown but now that we moved closer my second child will be delivered there. Hope this helps!
