Hi mommas' so I am very embarrassed to ask this, but here goes. For the last 6 months I have this weird gross discharge, its yellow and smells, I've been to my OB she's done cultures and they keep coming back negative. I've tried everything, I've douched with summers eve, I've done it the old school way with warm water and a small tea kettle. And its not going away. I am beyond frustrated because I've never had this and my OB keeps doing cultures and they are all negative. What do I do? What could this be? I am a very clean person, and it's so weird that all of a sudden I have this and it just doesn't seem to go away. Part of me wonders if its from the mirena, I had it put in a year ago, had this similar issue, but it went away and now its back. I don't know, I am very frustrated and feel very gross. Anyone have anything similar?

What can I do next?

I would try an over the counter yeast infection cream. Follow the directions and see if that clears it up! If that doesn't work, I would try a new doctor.

Good luck, M.

Yes, it could be a reaction to any birth control. Stop douching. It's really bad for the Ph balance in your vagina which can just create more problems and yeast infections. Have you tried taking probiotics? I don't think they will help, but it's worth a try.

Douching is a big no, no - never to do. It only pushes bacteria up into you.

Start eating yogurt daily and if you're eating poorly, cut out the fats and processed foods. Believe it or not, a lot of smells internally come from what you eat.

I hope it's nothing serious.

I have had something like this and my ob-gyn said it was a pH imbalance and prescribed a clear gel that I inserted for about 5 days and it went away. The prescription was called something like vandisol.

I've read that some women actually get mucous plugs, just like they're pregnant, while on Mirena (I have the copper IUD, and it's not a thing that happens with them because they don't have hormones like the mirena, so no first hand info on that one). Wonder if it's you losing your "plug"?

Perhaps make an appointment with a different doctor too, just to get a second opinion.

And a long time ago I did have a similar problem. I remember douching, but using the vinegar ones. The ones with NO perfume.

You could also try one of those 'over the counter' yeast infection tests.

Very well could be. I've been doing a lot of research on IUDs lately trying to decide what's right for me, and that is one bit of feedback that I've seen fairly frequently from users.

Seems to be something that's left out of the "side effects" discussion. But many people seem to be experiencing it or something similar after they get it, with not other explanation for the problem.

I think 1st you should get another doctor to take a wet prep culture. Some infections do not come back without a wet prep. If you have an IUD, then it for sure can be that. You may have to have it removed and use alternative birth control. Have they checked for a small PID infection. Stop douching though. That will make things worst. Also maybe ask for a vaginal cleomycin. It is used just like a yeast infection application, but are antibiotics that are inserted vaginally at night. Good luck and do not be embarrassed.
