My 9 year old daughter has acute eczema. I use miracle of the dead sea salts. It works wonders on her. She uses it once a week and hasn't had any outbreaks in about 1 year. I found it at the Parks Mall. It's a small kiosk. Hope this helps.
My poor baby he has really really bad eczema. We have tried 4 different prescriptions but nothing seems to work. He is 5 months old and its on both his cheeks and about a quarter sized red spots all over his arms and legs. If any one has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

I'm going through the same thing right now with my son. He is 5 months old as well. The pedi didn't prescribe any medicine she told us to us vaseline jelly 6 times a day. So far so good it is working. She says if the eczema gets worse or comes back they would prescribe something for him. There is also another product she said you could buy from any store and its called aquaphor and you would use that 6 times a day as well. Hope this helps.
You may want to try Aveeno For Baby (cream not lotion). The cream stays on better because it goes on thicker. It cleared my son's right up but it doesn't sound like he had it as bad.
I wanted to second the moms who recommended Arbonne products. I use the baby oil on my son each time I bathe him(watch too many baths in the winter--it's very drying), and it's awesome. I would never do this with mineral oil based baby oil. It won't absorb, and just keeps the skin from breathing. Yes, it seals out moisture, but it also seals out air. After I use the Arbonne baby oil on my son, I don't even have to wipe off or wash my hands as it absorbs so quickly. The main trick is to stay ahead of the eczema--don't get lazy about keeping the skin moisturized, or it creeps back up. Be careful to avoid the mineral oil or petroleum based products, though. The doctor can give you a prescription, but they can be pretty harsh.
You may want to talk to your child's doctor about food allergies, as eczema is often just a symptom of some other issue going on internally. Most pediatricians don't want to go into the allergy thing, but do keep an eye out for it. Allergies and asthma are also more likely if your child has eczema, so keep an eye out for them--better to catch them early.
I remember reading somewhere about eczema and dairy in the diet. My kids get all stuffed up if they eat too much dairy...
Good luck!
Hi C.,
I have a business that has a wonderful lotion specifically for eczema and other severe dry skin problems. The best part is it is not as expensive as other creams, and it is guaranteed to work!

My daughter has eczema, and has had it since she was a few weeks old. She also suffers from severe allergies, which I was told may be the cause of her eczema. When she was a baby, she's almost 5 now, she was allergic to eggs and milk. She grew out of the egg allergy, but the milk, I think, is what causes her eczema. They told me she might grow out of it, but it doesn't seem like she will. All I can tell you is to keep him moisturized, especially in the wintertime when dry skin happens most. My daughter was on all kinds of prescription creams, one of which caused her to have discolored patches on the spots we used it on. I found the only thing that really helps is a good moisturizer. We use Cetaphil. I hope this helps and good luck.
I have terrible eczema and both my kids had it when they were babies. I've found it to be environmental. I've had it for years and noticed that one year, when I had to go to Virginia on business, after a week up there, all of my eczema was gone. When I got back home, it was back within another week. I've tried switching soaps, and that did help, but in general, it appears to be an allergy to things in our environment and is very hard to pinpoint. With my babies, I would put aquaphor or eucerine on them at least twice daily, especially when they were still damp after a bath. Obviously, using the least drying soaps for bathing would be best. We settled on an aveeno lotion type cleanser for my daughter since that seemed to help. We found using the colloidal oatmeal in my son baths and giving him baths less often seemed to help for him. I've heard using a humidifier in your home to keep the air moist helps some as well. Fortunately, my kiddos grew out of it. They still get a patch of it every now and then, but it's nothing compared to when they had it all over their legs and torsos. I'm still suffering from it even today. People look at my hands and if they don't know about eczema, they think I have some sort of disease. Those who have it say "Eczema?" with that pathetic "poor you" look like they know what I'm going thru. It's a horrible disorder and I'm sorry your little one is having to go thru it. Good luck!
Hello C.,
My boyz has/had eczema as young babies and even now I have to cure their symptoms. **Inherited from mom :)** I have had success with Cetaphil. We used the lotion and soap. There is also a generic brand that has proven to be successful. In addtion, please wash his clothes before you allow him to wear them. Use Dreft or any other sensitive landry detergent. Hope this helps. Take care!

My son, who is now 2, had really bad eczema as an infant. The doctors prescribed a bunch of different things and nothing really worked until we tried fluticasone propionate cream. It cleared up up quickly and now we just give him an oatmeal bath every other day (sometimes everyday in the winter). We also use aveeno baby wash and the aveeno baby cream (not the lotion). The cream is thinck and his skin is great. We also changed to ALL free (fragrance and dye free) for ALL our clothes and linens (not just his, because he does play in our bed as while as when we hold him he is up against our clothes). Also, when I wash his clothes I make sure I set it for extra rinse. He still has a breakout every blue moon but the fluticasone clears it up quickly (we rarely use the stuff anymore).
Eczema can be a sign of a allergy. My daughter has eczema and we have to use fragrance free, dye free soaps. Also, I notice if something dairy sneeks into my diet, she breaks out (she is breastfed). I would contact the pedi about this issue and see what they have to say about the cause, because it won't go away unless your able to get what is causing it under control. BTW, we do oatmeal baths every other night and it seems to helps out.
I see you got alot of responses, but we used products from Melaleuca, and since I first used it on my son 2 years ago, he has never since broken out with the dry skin again. I love the products this company makes, it is purely made with healthly ingredients and they make more than just lotion. They are all safe products from cleaning supplies, to beauty care and laundry. I love it, you can call me if you are interested in how to buy from them. L. ###-###-####
We also have a 5 month old son with eczema we used a prescription from our doctor, but it just seemed to be too harsh. It left his skin a little redish and the eczema was still there. I am now using Arbonne baby wash and lotion and his skin is clearing up. I am pretty surprised about our results. Contact me at ____@____.com
renew lotion works wonders for me and my kids and we now are able to keep our eczema under control :)
Arbonne Baby Care cleared up my daughter's eczema almost immediately. You can check it out at www.arbonne.com
C.,
You may try a product called Florazone. You can get it at Healthy Approach in Grapevine or probably even Market Street in Colleyville. It is a homeopathic remedy that we've had good results with in the past.

All 3 of my boys had HORRIBLE eczema. They had it all over their bodies. They would often scratch themselves until they bled! My twins were diagnosed when they were about 6 months old. It was just terrible. We tried just about every lotion on the market (aquaphor, cetaphil, eucerin, aveeno, etc) as well as several different medications (OTC hydrocortisone cream, elidel, protopic, triaminclone). Nothing worked UNTIL we switched the everyday products we were using in our house. Now I know that the chemicals in our cleaning, laundry, and bath/body products were a major contributor to my boys' eczema. Now that we use products that don't have those chemical triggers in them, the difference is AMAZING! I would love to tell you all about what we are using! I just want to help other moms help their sweet babies! :) Email me at ____@____.com
My youngest son has it pretty bad too. The only thing we've found that works is Aquaphor. However, when he gets a really bad case, I'd ask the doc if they can give or recommend something stronger. It it is just red patches, try the Aquaphor 2x day (Lather it on good and thick). It helped a lot with my son. Howver, during the winter months, when the heater is on, it's worse than normal.
