I'd like to know if there are any other moms out there that suffer from eczema, and if so what kind of soaps, lotions and moisturizers do you use that doesn't break you out.
My son is going to be 5 next week but had eczema when he was a baby and I found the best things for him was Aveeno products like soap and lotions. I don't have eczema but have sensitive skin, especially my face and oil of lay is the only thing I can use.

Hey C.,
I know you have gotten a lot of responses, but I wanted to add that you could try Mary Kay cosmetics night emollient cream and lotion. It has really helped me a lot. My skin gets really dry and peels. I also get rashy areas too.
I also supplement with Eucerin lotion at times.
I use the emollient cream after bathing and follow up with satin hand cream. I also use the 2-in-1 body wash and shave gel. I really like it and it makes my legs feel good. Let me know if you would like more information on how to get the Mary Kay products.
Good luck to you,
A.

Try coconut oil. You can rub the oil directly onto your skin or eat it (mixes into yogurt, cook your scrambled eggs in it, etc). My girls had dry wintery skin until I started using it and it worked like a charm! :)

Hi,
I have not had issues with this, but I have a friend who has 8 kids who has. A few months ago she began using products from Shaklee. Everything they have is non-toxic, biodegradable, and all that good stuff. Anyway, she mentioned to me recently that since she switched her household cleansers, laundry soap, and body soaps, they have had no more issues. I know she would be more than glad to talk to you about their products.
Also, my sister has extremely sensitive skin and she has said that goats milk soap has been really good for her. So, maybe you could try that until you can get some of the Shaklee products.
My friends name is Kelli and her e-mail address is ____@____.com can just let her know M. in Ga. referred you. She just had twins a couple of months ago, so if you put something in the subject line about wanting info about Shaklee, she will probably respond faster than she would to just any ole e-mail from a stranger.
Hope this helps.

Hi C.,
I own MoM Spa and we carry a great product for Eczema. My 2 1/2 year old had it when he was little and his ankles still flair up with extreme temperature changes. The product is 'Emu Oil.' It takes a small amount and it's all natural. The oil is extracted from the ear of the Emu bird, which lives in Australia. I use it at night and mix it with moisturizer. It can help cradle cap, cuts and burns, chapped or cracked skin or just keep skin looking radiant and youthful. Feel free to stop by anytime for some more information or visit us at: www.themomspa.com.
We're next to the Starbuck's on Houston Northcutt Blvd.
I hope this helps. Take care, C.

Hi C.-
I saw your request and had to write back. My son suffers from eczema and I feel like I have tried anything and everything to give him so relief! A friend of mine recently turned me onto Renew lotion and would you believe it, IT WORKED! It cleared up a patch on his back after two days! I was amazed and am so happy to have found this. You have to buy it through a private company but it is all natural and has a 60 day money-back guarantee if it doesn't work. Definitely worth your money and a shot! Please email me/send me a private message and I'll get you all the info on the company. :-)

Hey C.! I suffer also, especially in the summer time. I have been to the doctor many times and nothing really makes it stop. I try to lotion really well at night and again in the morning. But, being a mother of twin toddlers, I am always washing my hands. My doctor suggesting not washing as much and using sanitizer more. He said the dampness from the water and not lotioning right after aids in the breakout. If you find a cure...please let me know. The sanitizer does help some. Good luck!

I know you have gotten other responses but I can't see them so this may be repetitive of what you have been told :) Anyway~ my 2 yo has eczema pretty bad. I took her to an allergist and this is what we did and it helped soooo much. She was not allergic to anything that usually causes the outbreaks~ foods etc. So we went back to washing her cloths in All-Clear ( she also recommended Dreft), I use on Dove soap and shampoo~ smells sooo good. The dryer sheets I use have no frangrance either. Two to three times a day I cover her with Lubriderm lotion. ( I got the generic kind from Wal Mart) and she gave me a prescription for a steroid cream to use if she breaks out. Oh the difference it has made in 3 weeks. And my hands are so soft from using the Lubriderm on her :~)
She also said that tomatoe, citris fruits and strawberries with cause anyone with eczema to flare up!
Hope this helps some!

Both my son and I have bad eczema. Our allergist said to stay away from all lotions. We use the Aquaphor ointment and it works really well.
What we do is after a bath/shower, stay a little damp and rub it all on before going to bed. We wake up with soft skin.
We both also have a steroid cream to use when things get really bad.
Oh, and someone else mentioned Eucerin. Aquaphor and Eucerin are the same thing and made by the same company. They just market the Aquaphor towards children. At least that is what our allergist told us.

Hi C.,
May I suggest some blood and liver cleansing herbs? Dandelion root, and burdock root would be great for cleansing. Also take a hard look at your personal care products and opt for chemical, fragrance and preservative free products. A great resource for looking for the best ones is www.cosmeticsdatsbase.com . Dr. Bronner's organic soaps are wonderful, Aubrey Organics has a wonderful chem free line of shampoos/conditioners, you can easily make your own moisturizers with oils like coconut, grapeseed, or sweet almond ( a little lavender essential oil would be nice to add). And finally, the major offenders that cause skin rashes due to allery include cow's milk and cow's milk products, wheat and wheat gluten. Have you tried an elimination diet?
Cetaphil lotion and soap is very good as well as Dial's Glycerin soap. It doesn't dry your skin out and has a nice smell to it. I also used DML Forte lotion (I think thats what its called, Costco and Publix carry it behind their counters) and found that to be very helpful and soothing. Good luck!

I have experienced eczema on my hands and have found that Softsoap or a generic version of that is the best to use. Dial seems to be too harsh. Also, I would recommend getting the Eucerin plus intensive repair hand creme. Granted, I have only used this on my hands, but it seems to help a bunch. If I use it when my hands are extremely dry and cracked, it will burn for a few minutes, but it seems to really help. My dermatologist also recommended that I use Cow Udder cream. It is quite greasy, but will help in the healing process. You can find this at Wal-Mart. It comes in a small green canister. Other lotions that I have tried have irritated my hands and caused further problems.

My son had eczema since he was born. I tried all types of soaps and creams without success. Finally, my husband who is a Pharmacist got Eucerin Original cream (it is the pasty kind) and it has done miracles for my son's skin. You do have to use it daily and try to avoid bathing your child daily. Hope this is helpful.

Hey there - First - stop using store bought soap. Second, use hypoallergenic detergents on your dishes and clothing. Third - have you tried old-fashioned, handmade lye soap? No it will not burn your skin - don't fall for that old lie from the commercial manufacturers! I used to make and sell it all the time. I don't do that anymore, but I still make it for my family and a few close friends. Anyway - go out to ebay (local resources can be over $2.00 an ounce! ebay is cheaper) and look for non-colored, non-scented lye soap. You do NOT want melt and pour so make sure you check the descriptions well. If you have further questions, I'd be happy to answer. See if you can find soaps that have shea butter and olive oil as ingredients. Also, Curel makes a hand cream that is EXCELLENT. My newborn had terrible skin eczema, and Curel was about the only thing that really helped. Hope this helps! G.

YES! After I had my first child I got eczema on one of my hands (very odd but that is the only place)and it came back after my second child as well. I find that the best lotion is the Cetaphil (comes in a green & white tube). It even works better than the prescription the dermatologist gave me. It absorbs quickly and does not leave your hands greasy. I use it on my super dry elbows also. I found it at the grocery store, but have yet to see it at Target or WalMart...I am sure drug stores would have it though.

Aveeno lotions work very well. They actually make one that is specially made for eczema called Aveeno Eczema Care. It's hard to find because it is a new product. Vaseline for moisturizing helps also. If you can get a doctor to call in a prescritption for you, Protopic and Elidel are the BEST non steroidal meds for eczema. Hope that helps!!

Well I went to the dermotologist and he said I had eczema and to stay away from all of the Johnson and Johnson products. I use Aveeno lotion and exfoliate daily and that pretty much keeps mine under control. Good luck. If you can you should go see Dr. Schoenfeld. He is great.

WAL-MART sells them in the baby section. if it is on your feet and hands you can also put NOXEMA (spelling? the stuff in a blue bucket that has the STRONG STRONG Smell)on and put WHITE cotton socks on after that in the morning WASH realy good. My sister suffered with excema for quite a while and she and her nutritionist finally got a handle on it. Turn out she's allergic to gluten, and can't even use products on her skin that contain it (most people clear up when they've just quit consuming it). She stays away from all soaps, laundry detergents, softeners, etc that have dye, fragrance, or harmful additives, and checks labels carefully. To protect the skin and keep moisture in, go to your pantry and try a little olive oil or coconut oil. Our new rule is, if we wouldn't eat it we don't put it on our skin (since the skin absorbs chemicals just as if we had eaten them). I have a few other resources that I'm happy to pass along if you'd like: ____@____.com
Good luck!

Hi C.,
Melaleuca brand soaps, laundry detergent, shampoos, etc. all help with Eczema, Psoriasis and Rosacia. My 89 year old Dad suffered most of his life until I found these products. He now has prettier skin than I do. They also have a specific lotion that has been scientifically, double-blind tested against Eucerin (called Renew) and showed 90-98% more effectiveness with Eczema.
go to http://www.melaleuca.com/ps/pdf_us/US_RenewPIB0806.pdf
Because Eczema is systemic, I have seen it go away completely with the help of their multivitamin and mineral complex. It works at the cellular level so what needs to get into your system, truly does. Melaleuca is a very inexpensive line of products, comparable to Walmart. If you are interested in more information, let me know.
Regards,
M.
P.S. Johnson and Johnson products have very low quality ingredients and most contain Quaternium-15. Q-15 is a known cancer causing agent. Aveeno products are manufactured by Johnson and Johnson.
Check out the Cosmetics Database like Connie Y said. It will open your eyes!

I saw your request for help with Eczema and I have had several friends who have had children who suffer from it too (including as severe as cracked and bleeding spots) and they have begun using Renew lotion and it has made a HUGE difference. I am a Melaleuca customer myself and recommended they use the lotion after my own experience. I do not have Excema, but my friend who told me about the company has a son that did and she said it was a great product line. In addition to a great lotion, Melaleuca also has a great laundry detergent called Mela Power. It does nto irritate the skin. Many people do not think about their sheets, clothes, and pillow cases coming into contact with their skin and actually irritating it. I would be happy to get you information about the products. They have a money back guarantee for 60 days. You can try the products and even use them completely and if you decide you do nto like it, they refund your money. I have never been able to return an opened product to Target, Walmart, Publix, etc... Email me if you would like more information.
I read your eczema cry, and I'd love to share with you how you too can have skin free of eczema. I work for a company that sells all natural products. We even have a product that beat out the #1 store-brand, Eucerin, in a clinical study. One of the gals on my team suffered greatly with Psoriasis, another skin disorder. She'd never worn open toe shoes (her whole life). After switching to a $9 bottle of our cream and using natural soaps, laundry care products, etc., her skin is now free of the ugly rash, and she can wear open toe shoes.
