Hi Moms,
We are doing a block party this weekend... Everyone is bringing a dish to share with the neighborhood... For 4th of July, we had about 40 people there (obviously not everyone eats everything)....
Suggestions on something SIMPLE, QUICK, and EASY? Last time I made a HUGE fruit salad, but too be honest, I'm too lazy to cut up all the fruit and do it again :0) (we do it on my street, so I'm always so busy setting everything up that morning. I don't feel like fussing with having to take the time to make something of detail)
Thanks Everyone... I'm going with Beth's mac and cheese :0)

rice krispie treats
brownies
little smokies (crock pot with bbq sauce)
meatballs (crock pot with bbq sauce or can of cream of potato soup)
veggie tray with dip
watermelon wedges
chips n dip (1 container of salsa mixed with block of cream cheese)
7 layer dip
I second the sausage balls from Mommylovekids ~ I have a different variation ~ no onion or celery and I use spicy sausage and sharp cheddar and it gives it great flavor! You can do them tonight and freeze them.
Pasta salad:
Boil the noodles. Drain the noodles. Put them in a big tupperware with a half a bottle or full bottle (depending on the amount) of Kraft "Classic Italian Vinagrette." Add some olive salad medely (a jar with olives, carrots and cauliflower, found in the olive aisle) or add some black olives, lightly chopped. Stir. Taste. Add salt or pepper. The morning of the party, stir and add more salad dressing if the noodles are too dry.
or
Watermelon salad (my favorite. Ate some for lunch today):
Dice thin slivers of red onion. Soak in lime juice for 5-10 minutes. Sprinkle some salt on it. Add chopped katalmala olives. Add chunks of fresh sweet watermelon. Add feta cheese. Stir. Enjoy. It's sweet, it's salty, it's crunchy, it's soft. It's so yummy.
Spaghetti salad:
1 lb cooked spaghetti
1 can sliced black olives
1 small basket of cherry tomatoes, sliced in half
Toss with your favorite Italian salad dressing and some Shillig "Salad Supreme" seasoning, if you can find it. If not, just use salt and pepper.
Do it the day before so it can meld flavors in the fridge over night.
How about this for simple, quick and easy: Buy some potato salad!
OR--you could make those hash brown potatoes (add sour cream & mushroom soup) in your crock pot?
I buy the deluxe mac and cheese in a box, cook it and then put it in a casserole dish with a bread crumb topping and bake it for a few minutes to brown the top. It looks home made and is a crowd favorite when I make it.
3 bean salad...equal # of cans of green beans, kidney beans & garbonzo beans ( chickpeas) drain & rinse all beans. Add a few tablespoons of white vinegar, a few tablespoons of oil ( allmost anykind, I usually use vegetable) salt & pepper to taste and thats it. Its best if it sets over night. You can also add onions and/or garlic if you want.
Throw chicken wings in a crock pot with premade bbq sauce.
Or, there's always jello like was discussed earlier today, seriously easy and you don't have to mess with a crock pot, just chill it a bit and it's cheaper than chicken:

(usually I see it green, with lime jello)
You could use a melon baller to scoop out the guts of a watermelon and cantelope. Put them back in the watermelon rind - cut it into a fancy basket shape or simple oval. The kids can get involved and do the scooping. While you do the carving. It can be done the night before and covered with sran wrap.
