We used a hand towel on hanger then placed earrings on it. Was great for all sizes and easy to see what we wanted. This seemed to work best since the was so many and different sizes it seemed the trees for earring was mostly for small ones.
My girls got their ears pierced in October and since both have had a birthday and Christmas(of course) so they have recieved a ton of earrings. Like close to 50 pair between the 2 of them. I am looking for fun, cute, easy storage of the earrings as well as the backs (we have already lost several backs to earrings). They have jewelry boxes but I didn't want the earrings just loose in one of the drawers to spill all over if they pull it out too hard. I would like them kind of displayed so they can see what they have a pick which pair they want to wear without having to pull out tons of the cards they originally came on etc. Thanks moms for any suggestions as to how to keep their earrings and backs!

KMart Walmart Dollar General have the perfect thing for you. The items are designed to display several earrings at a time. I had one as a child that looked like a sail boat with lots of holes to display my earrings. They are not very expensive and come in a variety of designs.
A very simple and very cheap way is to use a sheet of plastic canvas. They are like .25 cents each at Michael's or other craft stores. Even Wal-Mart sells 'em. They come in a wide variety of colors, too. Just a get a sheet in the color you want and stick the earrings through the holes and attach the backs. You could do something more fancy by cutting it into a certain shape or actually doing a design using plastic canvas stitches and yarn around the edge to make a border.
When I was younger, I had a frame with fabric attached to it. I used fabric that matched my bedroom. I used some decorative ribbon and cord on it as well. I hung bracelets on cords. And earings and pins all attached to fabrics and cords alike.
get some window screen from the hardware store, cut a piece big enough for all the jewelry, fold the edges over, and voila!!! i use a string to hang it up on the wall right under my mirror. works great!!! and it's cheap!
i have seen earrings displayed on wide ribbon. I don't think it would be too hard to cut a piece of cardboard from one of those cheap gift boxes we have laying around since Christmas, glue thin fabric or pretty paper on it, hang it on a ribbon and poke holes in to it to store earrings. If you hang it on a wall, it could be loose enough to spin it around and put the backs right back on.
I make earrings and I display mine on grey cardstock with two holes punched in it.
By the way, the newest trend seems to be earrings that do not match, so if one is lost, don't throw away the other one; my daughter wears a hoop in one ear and a dangle in the other and she wears mismatched socks too.
i would go to a craft store and get this plastic webbing stuff that they use with craft yarn. it should be small enough to hold the earrings and the backing. i cant think of the proper name but it comes in sheets as far as i remember. M. momma to Darien (10-27-00) and T.J. (2-8-2008)
I saw a homeimprovement show one time that used a regular window screen, you just decorate up the edges, you can either hot glue ribbon or felt, that type of thing. I always liked the idea, but never actually made one. You can also buy the screen fabric and make your own "frame". For the wire earrings, what we've done is take a piece of baseboard wood and stained it, painted it with polyurthane, and turn it upside down and cut a channnel up thru the middle then put it up on the wall as chair-rail border....we used this first for my boys to put their baseball cards in, and when we switched rooms around (which I do ALL the time with 9 kids coming/going) the girls use it for their wire earrings. it's cute and functional....

You can use empty egg cartons. Put a pair in each egg slot, not the prettyest way to do it but it works. Or small baggies.
same situation around my house too and here is what I am going to do....i don't know the actual name for it but the piece that you embroider on - you can push the earrings right through that and put the back on. However, you will need to hot glue or stitch and piece of ribbon so that you can hang it on something and I am going to find some cute ribbon and stitch or hot glue it around the edges of the piece that the earrings go on. I hope this is making sense to you. If not, please feel free to e-mail me with any questions. Have a great day and stay warm!

When I was little I had a plastic one that hung. I think places like Claire's still sell them. They are basically a rectangular piece of plastic with holes that the earrings go through, If I recall correctly there was a place for studs and hanging earrings. The hook at the top was like a hanger that could hang in your closet. Good luck, those earring backs are hard to keep track of even as an adult!!
Hi J.,
I store my earrings on ribbons hung from my curtain in my bedroom. The ribbons are about 0.5-1 inch wide, and the backs get put on right along with the earrings. However, I still manage to lose some backs, so just bite the bullet and buy some extras wherever you find they are the cheapest (wal-mart, k-mart, Michael's, wherever). When one ribbon wasn't enough I added another. Hope this helps!

I saw this idea somewhere on line a few years back and have used it ever since....
Buy a large round "splatter screen" (that you would use in the kitchen) and spray paint it any color(s) you'd like and decorate it with any other materials you wish. Hang it upside down from a nail or very small hook and it makes an awesome earring organizer! It will work for the kind of earrings with "backs" and also the kind without backs. I put the my hoops along the edges.
I love using this to organize my earrings! (I actually use more than one because I have too many earrings! I have one for my cheap-o plasticy and fake type earrings and one for my diamonds, gold, silver earrings.)

Something like the above. I got my daughter a metal mesh butterfly from Claire's.
I use a plastic tackle box to store my earrings. I sort them by color, and put the backs on them when I put them away.
my mom used to cut long strips of fat ribbon to put our earrings on. the ones that re 2-3 in wide? then she would hang it on our wall next to the dresser and we could see what we had. hope this helps.
I purchased a jewelry organizer for my daughter from Avon. It has multiple pockets and hangs on the back of a closet door. Check with an Avon rep about this item. My daughter just loves it and I love the organization!

There are some really fancy jewerly cases out there. You could probably make something similar yourself or look for a jewelry case in a kids' jewerly store in the mall like Claire's or any store that has kids earrings may have something similar.
This one is a silk screen over a frame. You could do something similar by using Elmer's glue or fabric glue to adhere fabric over a border that inserts into a picture frame or a from from the dollar store.

This shows a sort of jewelry box. I used to have something similar to this, but it was made of plastic. It had like 5 drawers that opened and held the earrings. The earring was on one side, post through a hold in the case and the back was on the other side. It organized them really well.

You might want something plastic or more durable for a young child though. I saw one that was wood with a foam insert to put the earring studs through and attach in the back.

I rather like the idea of having a plastic case because it's durable and it can be cleaned-sanitized. I remember as a young person I did not always clean my earrings after taking them off at night. Thinking back, that case was probably rather gross...lol.
I bought some plastic craft organisers at like Micheals. They are plastic boxes with little compartments and a lid that snaps shut. They are not that expensive and Micheals always has coupons.
I use small rubber ice cube trays. They work great. I have no idea where I got them but they are not the regular old plastic ones. Also check out the container store on line. They always have neat ideas.
When I was young, I had a wide ribbon that we tied into a bow. We then just tacked it up the wall and I had both strnads of the ribbon on which to hang my earrings.
Egg containers work great!
I have had a earrring tree for years I believe they sell them at places like Kmart and Walmart in the jewelry section , your ear rings are displayed and the backs are attached. They should be under $7. a piece. When I got mine I was about 13 and it was only like $2.00 but that was 37 years ago and I still have it and it is still functionable.
