Early Baby?

I am 33 weeks pregnant, and over the last weekend I had a tiny bit of pink mucus for 2 days. I know that wasn't the entire plug yet, but everything else (like diahrea) also raising red flags that I was in pre-labour mode. This is my second child, and the first one went really fast too. I also considered that the stress of a family death was also a factor for the discharge, then it stopped, and then monday morning the baby dropped and made it feel like my hips were separating like crazy, causing me to be extremely tired. I talked to my doctor and he didn't seem concerned in the least. it's hard to explain, and I have this gut feeling that it feels like the baby is going to come when I'm least expecting it. Some say it's a mother's instinct, yet I'm not sure if I'm just exercising my over active imagination. Is there anything I can do to keep feeling good and strong, and not be overly concerned? I can still walk well, and my son and I go for walk almost everyday, and I have yet to get ready completely for the new arrival!

What can I do next?

I didn't read all the answers but i delivered my 2nd at 32 weeks same thing as you. If i had to do all over I would put myself on bed rest. i had a 3 year old at the time and yes it would be hard but try to keep the baby in as long as possible. REST REST REST and see if someone can help you with day to day stuff. Good Luck

My first baby, it was the day before my due date and I had a pink tinge on my toilet paper when I wiped. Knowing that in my labor class the teacher said a water break could have a tint to it, I called my doctor. However, the nurse told me water breaks are ONLY clear and never tinged with pink. (She was wrong). I was soooo freaked out because I knew something was happening, but she told me to wait until I had contractions. Thank the Lord, I had them a few hours later. Even when I got to the doctor's office, though, and I had the contractions spaced to where you're supposed to come in (can't remember - something like every 4-5 minutes, lasting a minute), the doctor did an amniotic swab to check for fluid in my vagina. There was none there, so he almost sent me home.

So, let's recap, I was told not to come in because there was no way the pink tinge in my pee meant anything. And then I was almost sent home for 24 hours even though my contractions were regular and I had the pink discharge. TWO strikes. However, the doctor could see I wasn't comfortable going home for 24 hours so he did a sono. And my son is alive because he did. I had very little amniotic fluid left due to a high water break which is hard to detect. Over a period of time, the fluid slowly leaked out and my son could've died.

So, if you're not settled about this pink tinge, go check it out. It could be a high water break and your baby can only live so long after the water breaks.

Take it easy, at least until 37 weeks :-)
I went into preterm labor at about 35 weeks with my now 14 month old. My care provider advised me to take a warm bath and see if that was enough to relax my uterus and cause the ctx to stop. That time it wasn't! I rushed down to my chiropractor (who specializes in maternal care, not just random chiro) and she did an adjustment on my hips and the labor stopped. The next stop would have been the hospital for the drugs to try to stop it. I still had random ctx for the next 4 weeks, but my LO did hold off until 39 weeks when my water broke on it's own.

I really laughed at the idea of a chiro being able to impact labor, but in the moment, when you desperately want to keep your baby in, you'll try alot. I was thrilled it worked! It wasn't like what I have always heard chiro care to be like, she didn't crack anything - it was more like a targeted massage adjustment.

I think you should trust your instincts and if your doctor isn't taking you seriously, consider getting a second opinion from a family doc or even another OB.

There is a test the doctor can do that will tell you if you will be going into labor soon. I can't remember exactly what they do, but my doctor did it when my 2nd dropped and I had early labor at 7 months with my 2nd. Even though your doctor is not worried about it, ask him for the test. It will give you peace of mind and can also help everyone prepare if you are right.

Your 2nd will come a lot faster! My 2nd was about 3 weeks early (I didn't have a bag packed or even newborn diapers). They went to check me before they did the epidural (the 1st didn't work) and it was too late, he was already crowning! It only took two pushes to have him!

Good luck to you!

who can really say! i had my 1st 3 weeks early. For my 2nd i was having a lot of braxton hicks, dilated to a 3 or 4. I walked around like that for 2 weeks before we finally induced. I felt like she was just going to fall out of me. At 33 weeks you certainly want to keep your baby in a little longer! I would just take it as easy as you can.

I would think if you're passing the mucus plug and your bowels are clearing out, that labour will be soon. I had this happen with my second baby (who was a month early) and the doctor wasn't concerned when I told him about the mucus plug because my first baby was overdue and he didn't really think I'd go into early labour. If I were you, I'd make sure you're ready for the baby to come - get the crib set up (have your hubby do this), get some clothes, etc. and take it easy.

I would try to rest as much as possible. No heavy lifting. It is possible that it was just the baby moving around, but its safer to not do anything too streneous.

- keep a phone with you at all times.
- if you haven't already, go ahead and pre-register with your hospital

Good luck

It could be the baby wanting to come early, although I am currently 39 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and I have had those pains for weeks now. I was told by the nurse that they will happen sooner and be stronger with each pregnancy. Last night I for sure thought I was going into labor....had the same pains I did with my first and as strong and nothing! I am already dialiated to a 3 and had been at a 2 for 2 weeks...this is the first time I have ever been dialiated with a child at the doctor, even when my water broke with my first I was only finger tip at the hospital. Everyone is different so you in fact could be, but if your doctor didn't seem concerned I would go with that...that is what I have done through this whole pregnancy! Good luck to you and whenever it happens it is suppose to be that way :)

i think your mother instinct is telling you that the baby is coming soon! you know what they say about the full moon and babies and the full moon is next week. about a week before i had my first one, i had cramps and discharge and when i finally went in to the dr's office, i was already dilated about 3 cm and went in to full blown labor about 18 hrs later on the full moon! good luck!

Out of my three, I had two I went into preterm labor with. One held off til her due date, the other one did not and was born early. I have the issue of early contractions with no pain which is scary. I would not be too concerned, if your doctor isn't. The pink mucus can be from stress, sex, hormones and your baby getting ready. Your body is just getting ready and if the baby has turned around and gotten ready, it could still take some time. My oldest "nicknamed Pokie" was three weeks later than her due date. We induced and she still didn't want to come out. My last one was in a rush to get here! The baby will come when their ready and if your doctor says not an issue yet, I know you are exhausted and probably want the pregnancy over but every week adds body weight and is good for them. My youngest was born a month early - good weight and size and hair - but skinny little legs. I was so jealous of plump newborns for a bit lol!

Your story sounds similiar to mine when I had my first child. I was 33 weeks as well. I had discharge and was sent to the hospital. The nurse in the hospital did the test to see if it was amniotic fluid and the test came back negative. I was sent home, saw my doctor the next day, and she decided not to do an exam because I had been examed already in the hospital. The next two days I started getting what felt like period cramps but they didn't hurt at all, and they didnt come very often. Being that it was my first I assumed I would feel this super pain when I went into labor, and I figured everything was okay if I wasnt in pain. I had diarrhea over night that woke me out of my sleep every hour. The next morning on my way to work I just didnt feel right and the cramps that only came every so often became painful. My dr sent me to labor and delivery and they checked me I was already 3 cm and 75% effaced. Needless to say everyone was in shock, including my dr. The monitors didnt pick up on any contractions, and I still wasnt in much pain. They tried to stop labor but my daughter was determined to come. It was very hard leaving her in the hospital when I was sent home, thank God she was fine she just needed to learn to eat and gain weight. Go with your instinct, your body gives you clues that no dr can see and no machine can measure. And yes I was under a lot of stress as well at the time. Try to relax, but take the necessary steps to find out what is wrong. I hope all goes well for you and your family.
