My first baby, it was the day before my due date and I had a pink tinge on my toilet paper when I wiped. Knowing that in my labor class the teacher said a water break could have a tint to it, I called my doctor. However, the nurse told me water breaks are ONLY clear and never tinged with pink. (She was wrong). I was soooo freaked out because I knew something was happening, but she told me to wait until I had contractions. Thank the Lord, I had them a few hours later. Even when I got to the doctor's office, though, and I had the contractions spaced to where you're supposed to come in (can't remember - something like every 4-5 minutes, lasting a minute), the doctor did an amniotic swab to check for fluid in my vagina. There was none there, so he almost sent me home.
So, let's recap, I was told not to come in because there was no way the pink tinge in my pee meant anything. And then I was almost sent home for 24 hours even though my contractions were regular and I had the pink discharge. TWO strikes. However, the doctor could see I wasn't comfortable going home for 24 hours so he did a sono. And my son is alive because he did. I had very little amniotic fluid left due to a high water break which is hard to detect. Over a period of time, the fluid slowly leaked out and my son could've died.
So, if you're not settled about this pink tinge, go check it out. It could be a high water break and your baby can only live so long after the water breaks.
