Either nurse her or give her a bottle at that time. It works great.
My daughter (10 months) only uses a paci to sleep. We are getting on a plane in a few weeks, so I have "practiced" giving her a paci when the car goes zoom so she will suck on something to help her ears pop - but she won't take it. Any suggestions on what to use since she cannot chew gum or suck on lollipop like older children? Thanks for any advice!

J.,
Does she take a bottle still? If so, that is what I used when our daughter flew when she was 9 months old.
Our older child, we gave her a boxed juice (with a STRAW) when she was flying, worked great.
Hope this is helpful!

Wait to feed her & give her a bottle of formula or pumped breastmilk. Good luck.
I used to fly quite often with my son when he was little and had the same problem with his ears. It was suggested to me to take 2 cups (styrofoam or paper cups work just fine, as does a regular cup) and have the flight attendant put a very warm wet (water squeezed out) wash cloth or small towel inside each cup and hold it over your little ones ears when the air pressure changes. The steam from the wet cloth will "pop" the ears for you. I've actually used this on myself and it works great! Good luck to you!
Give her something to drink. Her ears will pop as she swallows.
God bless!
J.,
Last year I flew with my then 4 month old son. I tried to time the bottle that day for take off and landing of the plane so that the sucking would help with the ears. Of course this put him a little of schedule becuase he had an extra bottle in there but it did help his ears. We had no problem at all. Good luck. Hope you have a good trip.
If she will take a bottle, put juice? in it and have her suck on that instead.
you can feed her during take off and landing. Also eating snacks can help as she will be chewing the food and have the same effect as chewing gum would.
give the baby a bottle or a favorite snack during the take off anything to get him/her chewing it doesn't matter. I would suggest bringing all the favs so your covered.
I am a mother of 3 girls and have taken plane rides with my oldest from 1yr old to 3 yrs old back and forth from Germany
When my now ten year old had to fly around that age we got these ear plugs from Walgreens. I can't remember what they are called but they are made for flying. You put them in and your ears just don't pop. They have them for adults too but I just went with gum like everyone else.
I wish I had thought about them last year when I flew back from NYC with a full out sinus infection. I thought I was going to die. Okay maybe not death but I was sure my ear drums were going to rupture.
If you nurse your baby, then do that at takeoff. That will help out alot. I always did that when we flew. If not, give her a bottle at takeoff, same thing. She actually needs to swallow to help with the altitude and ear popping. Taking a paci won't really do anything except keep her occupied, it's the swallowing that helps with the ears. Happy travels!
We have taken 7 International trips with our 22 mos old ( the first being on his 5 mos birthday.) He is no longer nursing so we just give him water from his cup. Swallowing is actually more helpful than sucking. It works for us big kids too! We also sing his favorite songs and get him to laugh and this helps. Flying with a baby is normally not as bad as the parents fear. The calmer you are the calmer they are.
Good Morning J., if she still takes a bottle / breastfed / sippy cup do that instead of the paci. Any type of sucking motion will help. Sometimes even holding them close to your chest side ways with a hand covering their ear helps also. Cuts down on the noise they hear that might startle them.
Have a wonderful trip
God Bless
