Ear Infection in Cat

Garlic is antibacterial, antifungal. There areseveral ways to use it. Put an organic garlic glove in the ear or put garlic in olive oil for a while and put the garlic oil drops in the ear. Also chop up garlic or use a pill size piece and just put it in the cats mouth.

I had a cat w/ repeated ear infections and it ended up being cancer. The cancer eventually spread to his brain and killed him. By the time the figured out what was goig on it was too late. I hope that is not the case for you, but I thought I would share my story.

I had a dog that would get ear infections all the time until it was determined that she had a wheat allergy. After we changer her diet, her ear problems went away. Look into food allergies. This could be the reason for your kitty's ear infections.

Here are a couple of articles about ear issues in cats that I think you will find helpful. They are from a very reputable veterinary website. Although not impossible in a cat so young, it is highly unlikely your cat has cancer. You mentioned you went to a specialist but didn't say what kind---if you haven't seen a dermatologist, that is who I would recommend you see. BTW---GARLIC IS A MEMBER OF THE ALLIUM SPP. AND IS TOXIC TO ANIMALS, EVEN TOPICALLY AS CATS ARE FREQUENT GROOMERS.

I don't know how well this will work on your cat and it stinks (literally), but you can take a garlic gel, poke a hole in it with a pin, and squeeze a few drops of garlic into your cat's ears. Garlic is a powerful anti-microbial and can do wonders on an ear infection. But, your cat will smell like garlic for a few days.

Have you tried Zymox? It helped my dog who had chronic ear infection and nothing else worked. It contains enzymes found in raw milk - so if you have access to raw milk, you might try that. (don't use pasteurized milk - it would make it worse). Here's a source:

I also suggest dietary support that boosts the adrenals and the immune system. Research a raw diet for cats - I make my own cat food using the recipe at catnutrition.org - they love it. Also, just adding a little yogurt and some raw meat to their commercial cat food may help.

I also put some finely diced garlic in their food, and cod liver oil.

I'm no expert nor a vet, but I don't have to take my animals to the vet unless they get in a fight. They never get sick anymore - and it's been 4 years for cats, 8 years for dog.

I was a vet tech for 10 years, and with all the different doctors I have worked for, their next step would be to assume that your kitty has a food allergy. Have you tried a food trial yet? Hill's Science Diet has a precription food called Z/D that is hypoallergenic. You need to feed that and absolutely NOTHING else for at least 10 weeks to know if it working...no treats of any kind.

This might not sound like it makes sense, but I had the same problem with my dogs. It wasn't until I changed their food that the ear infection went away. I was later told by another vet that sometimes a food allergy will manifest itself as an ear infection or itchy feet (where they lick their paws all the time). It can't hurt to try! Good luck!

Has your vet checked your cat's thyroid levels? A lot of times if they are out of whack it can cause chronic ear infections. I work at a vet's office by the way. GL!
