my foutrth month old son has an ear infection I took him to the hospital and he got a shotto make it etter he's still running a temperature and I don't know what else to do, I've given him tyelonol and do every six hours but he keeps crying and screaming and grabbing his ear I don't know what to do for him and it's breaking my heart to see him all upset and in pain. What do I do? I have no idea.

What can I do next?

What was the shot and when did the baby get it? Was it an antibiotic? And how long did they say it would take to work? Does the baby need follow up antibiotics?

Call the hospital back and speak to a nurse. There are a couple of things you could ask.

There are drops the pediatrician can prescribe that you put in the ear and they numb the pain. They may prescribe them over the phone.

If your baby just got home and the shot hasn't had a chance to work the drops may help but you also may be able to give baby motrin. Ask the nurse how to proceed? Motrin may last longer and work better than tylenol, but be sure the baby has food on his stomach as motrin is harder on the tummy. If you really need it (you don't want to over medicate) you may be able to give the tylenol, wait 3 hours and give motrin, wait three hours and give tylenol again. That way baby is only getting the same med every 6 hours. In my experience tylenol only last 3-4 hours. BUT YOUR BABY IS VERY YOUNG, SO PLEASE CHECK THIS OUT WITH THE DOCTOR BEFORE DOING IT.

If you can't get through to the hospital, and don't have a pediatrician, then go to a walk in clinic if you can afford it. If you cannot afford it keep after the hospital and whoever treated you to get answers.

call his doctor. My daughter had a ton of ear infections as a baby and they never gave her a shot of anything, just gave her antibiotics. (maybe it was a shot of antibiotics?) definately go to his regular doctor as soon as you can.

Bring him to a chiropractor and see if an adjustment helps. We usually noticed a difference almost IMMEDIATELY. Find one that takes special training in adjusting infants!

If your doctor is easy to talk to, you might ask for the drops you can put in his ears to help with the pain. Also, you don't say how long it's been since you took him to the doctor, if it's been a few days you might call the doctor and talk to the nurse.
It helps if he's sitting more upright, laying down put's more pressure on the eardrum and makes it hurt more. I've had nights of sitting up with my daughter in a rocking chair so she doesn't have to lay down, usually I'm crying because I'm pretty tired, don't worry both of you will get through it!

Call the hospital-if you went to the emergency room they would have given you discharge paperwork and that will have the phone number right to them on it. ER or some other part of the hospital you should have a phone number that you can reach whoever saw your son. Call them now. Don't wait any longer.

They will tell you what to do since they know what they did for him and why.

Did they give you a prescription for additional antibiotics? Has he been taking them? They will sometimes give you a shot of antibiotics when an infection is bad and then give you a prescription for antibiotics to follow up with for 7-10 days (usually 10 days).
