Dyson Vacuum Opinions Needed

Hi, my cheapo vacuum finally gave out and I've decided to invest in a Dyson since we have a dog that sheds a lot. My only problem is trying to decide which Dyson Animal vacuum to get. The D25 is the one that has the ball to roll on so I know it's more maneuvarable but it also looks so much smaller. The D28 doesn't have the ball but looks more substantial. I guess I worry that smaller means not as good... ? Anyway, does anyone have either of these models or experience with both and could share some pros and cons? I would really appreciate it!! Spending that much on a vacuum I want to make sure I get one I'm happy with. :)

We have the yellow Dyson (before the ball) and are actually selling it if you're interested. If not though, I think you'll be very please with the D25. The ball option really reinvented the vacuum and what it is capable of. Reviews on it have been great! Good luck!

I would suggest typing "vacuum" in the search feature on mamapedia. Lots of questions about which one to purchase and great recommendations.

I vote Dyson Ball hands down. You will NEVER regret the purchase or money spent. You get what you pay for. We have the ball, lightweight version, and it does a great job keeping up with 3000sq ft, stairs, hardwood, carpet, etc.

No bags, no replacement parts & super easy to clean out & maintain. Not sure what Chantal is referring to but the filter and canister can both be submerged in water for cleaning. We wash our filter & canister (vinegar & H20--at least once a month) in the kitchen sink or with our garden hose in the summer and have had it for 5 years and not one problem. Highly recommend! Not to mention Macy's & Bed, Bath & Beyond have great coupons that can be applied to Dyson's for savings of $100 or so.

I LOVE my Dyson and would buy another in a heartbeat! Like Mary, they didn't have the ball one when I bought mine, so I have the big purple 'animal'.

I've had mine maybe 6 years and have never had a problem with it, ever. I don't find it difficult to clean. As a matter of fact it is much easier, in my opinion. And when I used my Dyson the first few times after just getting it, it made me sick to think what we had been living with and thinking it was clean!

I have 2 big dogs that also shed a lot, golden/lab mixes. 2 teenagers AND all their friends in and out. AND my dear, sweet husband who is as bad as the kids sometime.

When I researched Dysons I learned a few things. The animal versions are almost identical to the other models. They have an extra attachment. Here's an article I had bookmarked. http://ezinearticles.com/?Dyson-Animal-Vacuum-Cleaner---A... I also learned that apparently the ball vacuum is more maneuverable, but the ones without supposedly have more suction...but I don't know how much more. I have a DC17..the all floors version. I also have a large dog who sheds A LOT. This vacuum seems to get it all up. I have no complaints about it's ability to clean pet hair. And after 5 years of a cheapy, horrible vacuum I am thrilled with that. I have a few minor issues with Dyson. First the price. I got mine on a great sale, so I negotiated around that issue. I cannot vacuum any throw rugs, it eats them alive, even my larger ones. And my model when you are vacuuming if you raise the handle up too straight, it stops the floor suction, because it thinks I am going to use one of the tools. But that is a minor annoyance. Cleaning the drum out isn't too bad. Unlike my old bagless, this one has a door on the bottom, you push a button and everything drops into the trash. I absolutely love it, even with the two complaints I have. The first time I used it, my hubby came home and mentioned that the floors looked great, I must have shampooed. Even he who doubted my purchase, has had to admit it's a fantastic vacuum.

Hi, I have a wonderful bissell that i love. I am writing because I work in the flooring industry and they dyson's have such a great suction system, they can ruin your carpets. Talk to the vacuum salesperson and your local flooring store for the best care for your carpet.

We have the purple animal it is the larger (not on a ball) and works GREAT!!! I saw a post below that it has a short cord...perhaps that is an older model b/c the cord on my dyson will cover an entire floor of our 2000 sq ft house without having to be unplugged and moved. The tanks fill up fast b/c of how well it picks up so that is why we chose the larger but the ball would be really cool :)

I would not buy a Dyson. I have one. YOU have to clean out the area where the dirt, hair and other things are vacuumed up. You can't get the drum part wet. It is a HUGE pain to clean this out. I miss my vaccuum cleaner with bags and intend to purchase one next year. It's been five years too long without one!

we just have a regular dyson, the yellow one, and it does great on our dog's hair and my really long hair. Our old vacuum was always clogging from my hair but we havent had any problems with the dyson.

I found out about the same as S.B. I have a FURRY dog and I bought the Dyson Drive (car attachment option) and it is totally awesome on the hair so I wouldn't stress over getting an "animal" version.
When (if) mine dies, I'm going with a Ball. Just seems sleeker/more maneuverable.

I have the purple ball animal dyson, and I LOVE IT! This has to be the best vacuum I have ever owned. We have had it for about 3 years and it works great. It is light weight enough to easily carry up the stairs, vacuum the stairs, go from carpet to wood floors, several attachments that stay attached to the unit and easy empty. I will always own a dyson from now on, this was my first one and years later I still love it. We have a few pets and this vacuum definitely makes a difference. I could wish that the collection compartment were bigger, but for what it picks up I can manage. We actually tested our vacuum against our previous upright. We vacuumed our carpet with the stand by and then minutes later vacuumed the same carpet with the dyson. I could not believe what came out of the carpet after going over it with the dyson. Can't go wrong with this vacuum.

Big thumbs up on the purple one without the ball! We've had it maybe 5 years and no problems. The cord is plenty long enough for us too. My husband and I had the biggest argument we've ever had when I wanted to spend all that $$ on it but now he claims it was his idea. It's that good. :)

I hate to admit it but I was watching the Shark Navigator info commercial which was comparing the Shark Navigator to the Dyson Ball for half the price. And of course I fell for it because I was so needing a new vacumn cleaner at the time. Well, I have been so pleased with the Shark Navigator! It beats any vacumn cleaner I have purchased from the discount department stores. I've had it over a year and it works on Hardwood floors along with carpet. It is light and does everything the commercial advertises. It also comes with a pet hair removal tool which works pretty well. You probably have already made your selection but thought I'd pipe in.

I have a Dyson and love it! We have the purple "Animal" and we have 2 dogs (1 dog that is white and sheds everywhere) and it works awesome. We have carpet and wood floors and what I love about it, I can go to the carpet and then vacuum the dog hair off the wood floor. I won't ever buy another vacuum.

I have the D28, and love it. But IDK how it compares since they didn't have the other one when I bought mine. So I guess that doesn't help much...but I will say, I love my Dyson!!
