DVD Or c.d. to Help Babies Toddlers to Fall Asleep

Apparently there is either a c.d. or dvd that Dr. Phil featured on his show that helps most children fall asleep. I know it is done by a woman. I know that doesn't help much. It is not the Harvey Karp c.d. I looked on Dr. Phil's website, but obviously could not locate it. Anyone know of it? Thank you.

So What Happened?

I found out the name of the DVD, but decided not to get it. What I did was, I finally decided to stop driving around my daughter for her naps. I am taking "baby" steps right now to get her to take her naps without driving. The white noise or soothing sounds machine did not work after several attempts, it just kept her awake. I brought her into the bed and eventhough her naps have been pushed almost an hour and a half past what they used to be, she fell asleep for her nap (lasts about 1.5 hours). She is still going to sleep by 8 p.m. at night and waking up at 7:30 a.m. the next morning. I will next work on getting her out of our bed. But I figure this is a major victory since I have been driving her around EVERYDAY for nine months. I am saving on gas, the environment and my sanity!

I don't know what Dr. Phil recommended, but I can recommend the two volume set "Dream With Me Tonight," produced by Lanny Sherwin and available on www.cdbaby.com. Both lullabye albums, the first is sung by Melodie Crittendin, and the second by my old friend Gene Miller (a daddy's voice), who is phenomenal. Both are award-winning and "guaranteed not to drive parents crazy." :-)

I don't know what Dr. Phil recommended, however we use the Celine Dion "Lullabies" CD & we've used it from day 1. It's awesome! When we travel we bring it along & it's just like home when we turn the CD on. We've transferred it over to an IPOD now which makes taking it with us even more convenient. It never was about the girls needing music to sleep; I started it to help drown out all other sounds and had travelling in mind so there would always be something constant for them to make sleeping easier when not in their own environment. You might try the Dr. Phil website; they may have that show listed. Good Luck!

Hi CC,

I don't have the information you're looking for, but there are so many other methods (books) to get the baby to sleep. I just wanted you to know that if you can't find the cd, there's still hope :-)

I love Bedtime with the Beatles. I also use a noise machine that plays ocean and rain sounds.

I second Susan's recommendation on the white noise machine. My sister-in-law uses one with her daughter, and she's a great sleeper (she did start sleep-training her daughter early, at around 4 months old).

Bear in mind, that not all babies like "noise" as they sleep. My daughter was noise sensitive and got over-stimulated easily... and if there was even a toilet flushing in the distance... she would wake up or not be able to sleep.

Try "white noise." You can find those white noise makers, at say Brookstone, Sharper Image, or in www.amazon.com
For my son, we use a fan on low, when he naps. And for him this works.

Or, do a Google search online for that Dr. Phil one you heard about.

*I notice you requested advice before on how to help your baby nap... since she would nap only when driving in a car?
PERHAPS... try some kind of MONOTONOUS repetitive sound, that is calming. It creates a sleepy type of response, in some people. Thus, "white noise" machines... and this MAY replicate what the "driving in a car" did and made your baby sleep.. sans the car movement.

But each baby is different....
All the best,
Susan

They have a machine that you can pick up at Target. I believe it is 20 bucks. It has rain, ocean, music and other sounds to help lull your little one to sleep. The really cool thing is it has a little video projector thing that displays images on the ceiling for your little one like ocean creatures, stars, and moons. My dd would just lay there and coo and smile as she drifted off to sleep. It is made by homedics, sorry it has been a while I don't remember the name. Let me know if you want to try it, my hubby probably has the box in the garage somewhere. Good luck to you. I highly recommend Happiest Baby on the Block by the way. It worked wonders for us.

I don't know what this CD/DVD is but I highly encourage you to help your daughter find her way to soothe herself to sleep- it is necessary for a life of being a good sleeper.

For sleep environment I recommend a dark room, cool environment, and a sound spa (you can find these at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, check them out at my online store if you don't know what they are). I also recommend a consistent nightly sleep routine and make it simple.

If you are interested in more information on how to do this contact me and/or check out my sleep blog at www.lullabyluna.com.

The challenging sleep of my first child is what got me started as a sleep consultant- hang in there.

You may be thinking of The Sleepeasy Solution with Jennifer Waldburger and Jill Spivak. One or the other (and sometimes both) regularly appears on talk shows. The DVD comes with a booklet to use as a quick reference outline and a chart to monitor progress. Our company distributes dozens of Parenting DVDs and we've received consistent thanks and praise about this title from couples who regained control of their lives and are no longer battling the effects of sleep deprivation. You can find it at Barnes & Noble and lots of places on line. If you order from TheParentingSpace.com you can use the coupon code THANKS25 and it will take 25% off your total order.

No but rockabye baby is great! They make lullaby versions of all your favorite bands. Look it up! That is what we use for our daughter. There are tons! Like Beach Boys, U2, etc.

My two cents...babies and kids should learn to fall asleep on their own without the aid of electronic media.

Or...sing them a lullaby...

Are you not referring to the Dunstan baby languages? She is amazing and I think Dr. Phil or Opra promoted her DVD. One of them is identifying the tired cry. It's excellent if you can find someone who has it. It's costly, but a great investment if your little one is new. Congratulations.

Skip the CD. Get some kind of ritual before sleeping and that is the idea behind you buying any kind of cd. I'd read or tell a story and then with the lights out sing a song. My own kids didn't care how badly I believe I sing, they just liked it that mom sang. I knew some hymns from memory.

One day at church the congregation sang one of the hymns. My kid immediately put his head on my shoulder and closed his eyes because he took it as a signal to fall asleep.

Enjoy your kids!
