Dry Erase Marker on Chalkboard

We got my son an easel for Christmas that has a Dry erase board on one side and a chalkboard on the other side. Well what do you know he has used a dry erase marker on the chalkboard side. Does anyone know of anything that will take it off? I have already tried to clean it with a damp rag and I also used the spray that helps get dry erase marker off of marker boards. The marks have lightened with these two attempts but they are still there. Any suggestions are much appreciated!!

So What Happened?

Well I tried the Magic Eraser first and it seemed to be taking off the surface of the chalkboard rather than removing the marker. It did help the mark but also left a faded area around where I had been scrubbing. I next tried the suggestion of rubbing alcohol. It did a much better job at removing the marker. I still have a slight mark but it is much less obvious. I think the alcohol might have worked even better had I cleaned it right away. I didn't try the baking soda suggestion because I figured it would be more abrasive than the Magic Eraser and I didn't really want to sacrifice any more of the chalkboard surface to get the marker away. Thank you so much to all who made suggestions.

I know for a fact that wd40 will work on crayon on chalkboard so it may work on marker. just make sure it dries really well before it is used again.

Try using baking soda on a damp cloth. It took permanent marker off of our dry erase board and off of out dining room table. It works wonders!

Try a Magic Eraser by Mr. Clean. I use them for everything and I love them. They are a must have with kids. If this doesn't work I don't know what will.

Hilarious! I have the exact same problem. We got my toddlers an easel for Christmas with the 2 sides and they used the marker on the chalkboard side. I have not tried this on this particular chalkboard yet but I think the "Erase" pad by "Mr. Clean" will work. I have used this product to get marker off of another chalkboard I have. You just buy this and run water over the sponge. Do not use any other cleaners...just water. The texture of the sponge helps to get this kind of thing up off of the board. Good luck! I hope this works for both of us!

I know they make a product that will fix this. I took my 2 yr old with me to my 5th graders classroom for a christmas event. She was writing on the chalk board to occupy herself and when I wasn't looking she picked up a dry erase and decorated the chalk board ALOT before anyone noticed. I went and got the custodian who came down with a spray and wiped it right off. Don't know what he used and don't know if it is available at a normal store or just to custodians/janitors.

you might try one of those Mr. Clean Erasers. I don't know if it will work but it wouldn't hurt to try.
