Draining Ears After Tubes

My daughter is 14 months and 4 months ago got tubes in her hears due to very recurrent ear infections.
A month ago she had some brownish yellow discharge from her ears so I took her to the ENT and she took a 10 day antibiotic and also ear drops. Yesterday we noticed drainage again - a little thinner than the nastiness of last time. I decided to try just using the ear drops to see if it would clear up.
I guess I didn't quite understand as I thought this was kind of the point of tubes = that the fluid would drain rather than staying in the ears to cause pain and illness. However as of last time I met with the ENT and mentioned this he told me - no, it means there is an infection and must be treated.
So - two ear infections in a month with tubes - anyone else's child do the same??

I was an ear infection child and had tubes - never had an ear infection until years later when the tubes were long gone.....

What can I do next?

My son had two sets of tubes put in. He had about 2-3 ear infections even with the tubes. The stuff that comes out is quite yucky, but so glad it wasn't staying in his ears anymore.
We started using just a plain nose saline spray (no medicine, just saline) on a normal basis and that seemed to help "clean" out his sinus/ear stuff.

Ear infections can still occur after ear tubes, drainage can occur with or without having ear infections. The ear drops go straight to the source of infection vs the liquid oral it goes through your body system leaving very little for the ears to recover from infection.Take medicatiosn att he same tiem everyday & don't skip.Remember to bathe her with clean water only not the same water that is sitting in her bath tub to many germs, stay away from second hand smoke, have her ears covered when it is cold & windy outside.Everyon is different when it comes to treatment of an illness, surgical procedure, disease we don't respond the same way.

Ear infections can still occur after the tubes. It just makes them less painful and treatable without oral antibiotics. My daughter had several infections after her first set of tubes. None after the second set.

The tube is miniscule...it isn't going to drain all the fluid. Especially if she is prone to thick secretions like my daughter.

You might discuss a dosage of Mucinex with the ENT. It was a big help in helping thin her mucosal secretions and keep infections from developing
