Does Your Child Run Hot or Cold?

My child always feels really hot to the touch. Like, really hot. I can hold my hand over her and feel the heat just radiating off of her. She also hates to wear pajamas, as she will overheat in them. During the winter I have to make her wear lightweight ones, as she tends to kick off her blankets and it is just too cold to sleep bare.

Yet, whenever we take her temperature, she is actually below the average temp. (Same when the doctors take it.) I get a kick out of it, because she always feels so hot, yet is actually slightly cooler than most kids. I'm not concerned in the least, as she has always been like this and her pediatrician has reassured me that's just how she runs. :)

So, out of curiosity, do you have a hot or cold child?

What can I do next?

My three sons run hot, my daughter is neutral. The boys wear shorts and t-shirts year 'round, as does my husband and my father-in-law. My oldest son (15) just stopped the year-round shorts habit in the past year and now that he's a "hipster" is fond of wearing colored jeans, collared long-sleeve shirts and sweaters every day, and he wears PJ pants at night. It's partially a fashion thing with him but I think that because he's emaciated (6 ft tall, 135 lbs) he feels cooler now because he literally has almost nothing insulating him. It'll be interesting to see if he starts running hot again when he puts on some weight. I'm the only one in the house who is always, always cold. My hands, feet and nose are always cool to the touch so I like having warm kids to snuggle with and warm me up.

My daughter totally runs hot. Wears shorts sleeves and skorts (no tights) in the winter. Never wears pajamas or she'll wake up sweating. No idea why since I'm always cold but that's how she is.

She runs hot, same as me.. We dress in layers and peel off things all day. During the winter we still use a fan,,

We can go for a long time without turning on the heater in our home. Usually when the outside temps reach the l40's.

Hot feet, hot hands.
I have found if I wear a hat, I can stay pretty warm.. Otherwise I feel like I am burning up.

Mine is hot, too. So is his father. (I've always teased him about running a low-grade fever.) I'm the opposite, and they keep me warm at night.

Mine always run hot, too!

I work "with" them instead of what I think they should be feeling. I've learned it. It was hard w/the first one. They just run hotter. They got hot when they run, they sleep warm, they are warm when they are just sitting around the house. They both work better not wearing socks, etc. I follow their lead in regards to their body temp.

I still always carry an extra pair of socks, shirt, sweatshirt, jacket w/me in the car just in case (and we have used them on occasion).

My son runs hot. He refuses to wear anything but shorts and a T-shirt on except on the very coldest days, and that's usually because I make him. My father and sister are the same way.

I, on the other hand, am always freezing. People who see our family out and about must think we are nuts, because my son will be running around in shorts and flip flops while I'm bundled up in a winter coat over two layers of clothes.

LOL! Isn't that funny! My younger son is "different" in the temp department, too. His temp runs low, yet his ears get SO hot and very red. His hands and feet, especially feet, get very cold. I told him that he has funny body parts LOL!

It's good for your daughter's regular temp to be on file with the ped so that they can know how much of a fever she ACTUALLY has when she's sick. Always remind them of that...

My son runs hot too.
So when he says he is cold... then, I know he is sick or something.

My daughter is normal.
