Does Weather Affect Your Moods?

For me , it's a YES. I hate gloomy weather. I just feel sad for no reason and my days are long and boring. I hate the winters in Midwest but atleast we have lot of bright days with lots of sunshine. I don't like it when it rains/snows all day. Sometimes I wish I could live in a place which is beautiful and has perfect weather, I think just a bright beautiful day would automatically uplift my spirits even when I have a reason to feel down.

Another long cold winter ahead for us :( Anybody else feeling sad today? How do you cheer up when you are feeling down for no reason at all. I am inside my office, not even looking out of the window but still feel sad. Weather has that affect on me sometimes.

What can I do next?

RE: Seasonal Affective Disorder (sounds like what you have), things I've found that help M.:
What I call a "grow light" at work (full spectrum light)
Exercise outside for even a short period a day, if it is not too cold or rainy
When I'm desperate a short (10 minute) tanning session at the lowest level

Good luck!

There's actually name for that (doesn't everything have a name!). Seasonal Affective Disorder - SAD. Cheery name, huh? Extra lighting in your house may help.

I too feel that way. That is why my hubby and I moved to Florida. I can't take another northern winter. I do miss the changing of the leaves in early fall, but not the cold and snow.

I'm with you. I hate the gloomy weather. Before the kid, we used to try to travel to Florida around February to give M. a break. The time change really gets M. down because it'll be dark by the time I get home from work. Bummer.

YES!!!! I love, love, love the colder weather! It has *finally* cooled off here and I'm so HAPPY!!! I definately live in the wrong state! I have been digging out all my warm sweaters and just bought some new fuzzy boots. Yesterday it was cloudy, windy and cool and I LOVED it! Can't wait for the next several months of cool weather. =)

We have good lights in our office and I have plants so that usually keeps M. chipper year round. If anything the nice weather makes M. play hookie. :)

At home I am a different creature. I clean in the spring and fall, oh and organize anything I can get my hands on. Summer I just want to be outside and winter there must be a fire in the fire place.

I think the only weather that effects M. is rain and only that I don't want to get out of bed in the morning.

I'm with Rachel D. I absolutely hate winter. For M., it's like being surrounded by death. It's cold and I can't ever seem to get warm enough. It's not fun to be out in, it's not fun to drive in. It's wet, cold and windy. The snow is beautiful while it's falling but quickly turns dirty and slushy and it's piled to the side of roads and parking lots like miniature dirty mountains. And, there's nothing worse than the mockery of a beautifully sunny day that's 23 degrees. It should be warm, it's blindingly bright after all, but it's frigid.

Give M. spring when all things are coming to life again. I will actually go outside and take a mental picture of the trees as they start to bloom and leaf so that I don't wake up one day and they are all in full green and I've missed it. I love the flowers and the buzzy insects. I love the warm weather and playing in the sprinklers. I love seeing the kids in he neighborhood riding bikes and playing. I litterally love everything about it. And summer is my second fave. I would so much rather be hot than cold because, other than sex, getting cool is way more fun than getting warm.

I'm so happy that it's finally cold. Love to pull out the boots and jackets and the winter wardrobe.
It's all in your attitude. Each season has a reason to be embraced.
I always HATED winter when I was younger tho. Summer was my favorite season, now it's my least favorite. I love Spring and Fall the best.
Take some vitamin D, and wrap your mind around all of the seeds that are sleeping and gestating right now awaiting the Spring sunshine to bring them alive with color.

yes, very much so. The summer makes M. depressed nauseous and angry unless i am near water or a.c.. As soon as fall hits i am the happiest person youll meet.....having picnics, riding bikes and rollerblading, walking everywhere i go. The snow makes M. giddy too, because in Houston its a gift and a reason to rejoice. The spring is o.k. but i feel its very foreshadowing of our hellish summers.

yes, but gloomy rainy weather doesn't always make M. sad. It makes M. sleeeeeeeeeepy. But I love the sound of the rain. The sun is necessary to make vitamin D so you really do feel better when you get lots of sun.

I had friends that moved to Seattle, thinking they were cool indie music kids. 6 months later they moved back to Texas. They said all that drizzly grey weather made them suicidal!
