Ladies, I need to buy a car seat for my daughter she just turned 14 mo and still uses her infant seat as it can be used until she hits 30 lbs and 35 inches, I also want to keep her facing back as long as possible. Anyway I have some time before I really need to buy the next stage car seat so I have started to do my research and came across this Sit n' Stroll Car Seat stroller. This is the one that is a car seat but you can take it out of the car and turn it into a stroller. Do any of you uses it? What has been your experience with it? I see a lot of moms with it at airports. My husband and I love to travel and would like to continue doing it with our daughter, we are going to Europe in May so this seemed like a very good option so we don't have to carry too much with us. The convenience of it sounds fantastic but I don't want to compromise on safety and functionality. My intention is to use it as a car seat most of the time and only use it as both when we travel again so we don't have to carry a car seat and stroller separately. In my experience when you buy something that is multi use the item turns out to be good for one thing but not so good with the other. So any feedback you can provide positive or not so positive will be greatly apprecited. Thanks

What can I do next?

I have two for both my kids. At one point I was travelling 1Xper month on a plane by myself. They are GREAT if you are flying and using them in the car. After that, ie. travel through the streets of a city, no good. I have lent them to friends who have been on planes and travelled and LOVED them and can't imagine travelling without them but strolling around as a primary stroller will not work.

We have had one since my daughter was 8 months old. We love it and have used it on many cross country and international flights. It really helped us that we had one less thing to take with us.

Good morning! My husband and I are also travellers and have trotted all over the globe with our kids (3 now!. It is good you are thinking now about what you need. The car seat you mention is fine as a car seat but would be a nightmare as a stroller in Europe. You will really need a lightweight stroller with rugged wheels to cover the lovely cobblestone streets you will inevitably encounter (Also want a bit of recline and a sunshade). Try a McClaren or Mommas & Poppas (these are brands available here that the Europeans use). If you can keep her in her infant seat until after your trip - excellent. The biggest pain is lugging a regular car seat around. If you are planning to rent a car there, you should check to see if they rent car seats too. This would help on that end. Don't know if you will be buying her a seat on the plane but if you don't, they will not let you bring her car seat on - it will need to be checked.

Enjoy your trip!

Hee-hee. I have to say, the sit & stroll carseat has become a family joke for us. My daughter HATED it. My dad bought it for her for a trip to Europe we were taking. It seems like a great idea - less stuff to bring, and well, my daughter anyway never did well with the "transfers" from carseat to stroller, etc. From the first time we ever sat her in it, it was a temper tantrum...and she was not the temper tantrum throwing type. It must have felt really different to her than her regular car seat or stroller. SHe was just NOT having it! WHen she finally "gave in" (after a horrible struggle), she ended up hating it even more, because you essentially never take your kid out of it! It did work well when she had fallen asleep in the car. However, once we got back from the trip, it went into the attic and never saw the light of day again. My dad still laments over how much he paid for it, but her remembers how much my daughter HATED it, so he's never been irritated that it didn't get more use!

While it's nice to have a seat that does multiple things, safety needs to be first. The BEST car seat on the market is the Britax Boulevard seat. It is the ONLY side impact crash rated seat on the market. Read the testimonials. They will give you chills. Please re-think a multi-purpose seat and buy this life saving one instead. I have a chicco stroller that truly opens with one hand and takes seconds to set up. I feel great knowing my 14 month old son is safe in the Britax Boulevard seat. I got mine at babyuniverse.com. It was on sale for $50 off and there was no tax, shipping or handling. It is expensive, but it's your child's life. When it comes to that, there are no inconveniences or price tags.

As for travel on planes and airports, there are many devices that can support ANY car seat. I'd check those out instead of the multi-purpose car seat. The magazine One Step Ahead has a website as well and MANY travel options. Good luck!

I have a SitnStroll. I do like it a lot as you can't beat the convenience of the stroller/car seat.. But you're right, it's not a GREAT car seat, it's not a GREAT stroller, just pretty good in both categories. It's not cheap for something that's just pretty good. Actually the first time we used it, the handle broke off when we checked it on the plane. Needless to say, I was highly annoyed. Only one side broke off and of course you can still push it, I just never got around to ask about sending it back.. Oh well. If I had to do over again, I might get a really good car seat and buy separately one of those wheeled carts that you can lash the car seat into. They kind of look like a mini handtruck. Buy Buy Baby sells it, at least the one in NY. This might be an option if you're mainly using it as a car seat. I live in NYC and don't need it as a car seat that often..
good luck!

We purchased the britax marathon for our car but the sit and stroll for travel. My daughter used the sit and stroll until she was 3 1/2. It's perfect for airline travel. We always purchase a seat for the kids and the sit and stroll fits perfectly in aircraft seats.

In fact, we just used it for my 7 month old son (27 3/4 inches and 19 lbs)on a recent trip to florida. We used it front facing on the airplane and rear facing in the rental car.

My husband is a stickler for safety and security. It comes with great directions and the necessary strap/car attachements. It has been great!!

Hi
I am a mom of 4 little ones. Oldest just turned 8, youngest is 1 and 9 months. I used a Sit n Stroll with my oldest for the longest time. It was really amazing for, uninterrupted naps, and traveling. We schlepped that thing all over the place. We used it on the plane going to England, all over London, in and out of cabs, trains, you name it. Took it to Hawaii when my 3 son was 1. We used the heck out of it, until one of the wheels just about broke off, or something like that. I think it is a really good thing. We were very happy with it, in all of it's uses. Most important, it was comfy for the wee ones.
Good luck and safe travels.

I live in NYC so I got a Sit 'n Stroll. I would NEVER use this as my regular carseat, it really does not seem as save as a Britax, which you can install in 5 seconds. For travel you can buy wheels that you put the car seat on. The installation directions are much more complex for the SnS and I never feel like it is in correctly. In Australia and some other countries the cars were set up all different ways and I found myself in some sticky situations where I had to improvise and install the seat incorrectly. It also wasn't allowed on the Quantas airplanes. I would definitely get a Britax and get the wheels for the Britax for travel. This is basically a bad car seat and a bad stroller. I went out and got a safer carseat with separate wheels.

We always say that buying this stroller was the best $250 we ever spent. We live in NYC so we have several strollers and no car, (we use the Sit n Stroll when we rent a car or fly anywhere) and we always see people in the airport shlepping carseats and strollers together, and this stroller makes traveling easy and seamless. My 3 year old is still using it, since she was 8 months! She even likes to sit in it when she's tired to fall asleep in if we are away from home. It's not the best stroller, but if you don't expect it to be your main stroller it will serve it's purpose. We took it to Disney World, California, Upstate NY, and whenever we travel its the only stroller we take. It's so nice to not have to wake her up to get out of the car! As a car seat it was fine, but in Europe as a stroller I don't think the wheels would be great on cobblestone.

Personally, I don't think the sit-n-stroll was so great in rear-facing position. However it was very convenient for travel when my son was able to sit forward-facing. But the wheels are small so it's not so great if you plan to walk for miles and on not-so-smooth ground.

Honestly, there's so many better car seats than the sit n stroll. I would pick a different car seat and a go go kidz travelmate for when you travel: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2658824

These are my favorite car seats that can accomodate any budget:

Hi
You need to check the weight for rear facing position. If the weight is too much it is actually unsafe to sit rear facing.

I am a mom to 7 children.

I have the Sit n Stroll, and love it for when I travel. I would not recommend it for everyday use. It uses the seatbelt across the front to keep it secure, so it would be very annoying to have to do this at every trip and all the time. I highly recommend it, if you plan on traveling in the future. It is an investment worth making. It makes life much easier as to not have to carry a stroller and a car seat and also be able to go right up to the plane with it. The seat is more like a car seat, and I find that it is much more comfortable than a regular stroller.

I have had the sit n' stroll for a number of years. I bought it because at the time I did not have a car at my regular disposal and was going in and out of friends and family's cars. We are also avid travelers and thought that it would be helpful in airports etc.

It was fantastic for these purposes. However, as you probably guessed, it is not great for everyday use. The extra buckle across makes it a bit annoying for you to get your child in and out -- and depending on your child, might be uncomfortable for your daughter. We currently use the sit n' stroll in my husband's car -- which we use as a family less frequently.

I think the sit n' stroll is a great product for traveling, or as a secondary carseat... but I wouldn't recommend it for everyday use.
