Does Acupuncture Work?

Depends on what for.
I have 2 very good friends that have had serious back and neck pain and they swear acupuncture works.
I have a neighbor with some severe headaches and she said it really works for her too.

My friend's daughter had a migraine that had gone on for 3 years. They tried every treatment imaginable and acupuncture finally stopped it. But you have to choose a practitioner very carefully.

My husband is an acupuncturist. He will tell you that it works for most people. Just like certain medication some people react differently to it. (He's never had an bad reactions or anything like that.) I have lymphedema and had swelling in my leg that lasted for nearly a year. Sometimes the pain was just awful. I finally had some acupuncture done, and after a few treatments the swelling was gone as well as the pain. It also worked for some acne problems I was having.

I had it for both my pregnancies, as I had BAD morning sickness and migraines.

I have had friends and family who had acupuncture for various aches/pains and it helped them.

I had acupuncture for food allergies for myself and my kids and for morning sickness and for an allergy to my thyroid medicine. Most of the time it worked perfectly well. The other times, it took the edge off but didn't help completely. I'd say that it's well worth it. With the food allergies, it helped with all of it except my kids would become allergic to gluten eventually. They were thinking that maybe after they're cleared, we should try gluten enzymes to break down the protein. I haven't tried it yet. The medication allergy acupuncture treatment took the edge off. My reaction wasn't as bad and would go away with benedryl but it didn't clear it completely. The same with the morning sickness. It took the edge off for about 48 hours but didn't clear it completely.

Yes, yes, and yes! It is awesome and I HATE needles. My wrist hurt and the doc could find nothing wrong (of course). I had three treatments and the pain has not come back. My lower back has 'ropes' going along the spine and it always hurts. Again, after about 5 treatments it was much better. I just wish I could afford to keep going....my back needs long term treatments. I hate using pain killers and any kind of medicine other than ibuprofen, so acupuncture was a wonderful alternative.

Whether it works may depend partly on how good your acupuncturist is, and what you're hoping to get relief from. But I've had two excellent practitioners, and have gotten relief of symptoms I didn't even expect to have relieved. For me, it's been helpful for certain kinds of chronic pain, poor sleep, lung problems, digestive difficulties, and more. It has not been helpful for nerve pain in my feet.

My husband had an episode of Bell's Palsy a number of years ago. After having virtually no improvement for several months, I convinced him to get acupuncture. He got almost complete recovery within three weeks. I'm convinced the treatment helped him turn the corner, because BP victims don't usually recover function after 2-3 months of paralysis. He's much more skeptical. I guess we'll never know for sure.

I had an epidural in the wrong spot and have had back pain ever since. I try,d acupuncture and no it did not work. I went 4 or 5 times to give it a chance but I think it could if I would have had just muscle aches and not a needle in my spine pain. So I guess It would depend on what you get it for. Also I heard that It,s best to get somebody with alot of experiece. Not a student or someone in training. Hope I helped somehow.

For me, it worked wonders physically and emotionally. It can be pricey, but I used to go to Emperor's College in Santa Monica which is reasonably priced and the caliber of care I received was superb. I have gone to private acupuncturists and in my experience, Emperor's was far better.

I've had it for IBS and it helped. I also had acupuncture when I was pregnant and 10 days past my "due date". I went into labor that evening.

My mom gets it for her arthritic knees. It's the only thing that relieves her pain. She's had 2 rounds of cortisone shots that don't come near giving her relief. Now if only Medicaid would pay for the acupuncture like they paid $1700 for the cortisone she could get the treatment more often.
