I am a mom who wears make up. I would say, I wear some sort of make up everyday, mostly going to work. My make up routine is simple and can be completed in 6-7 minutes flat. I'm a long way from the glamorous Kim Khardashian look, but since I won't be frolicking from one red carpet event to another, I can keep it pretty basic. I don't spend a lot on cosmetics, but like trying new brands and products to figure out what works for me. I do have a fond appreciation for make up. I have friends who don't wear make up, for various reasons, and that's fine. To each, his own. Make up is indeed optional...an option I like having.
What is your opinion on wearing make up? Do you wear it or not and why?
More moms responded that they do wear make up (of some sort) than not. I think I expected the opposite. I was just curious. Thanks to all the moms who replied. For some, make up was a mood enhancer. Moms felt they looked good with make up on and that made them feel good. Whether in make up or not, you have to be comfortable with yourself. My grandmother use to say, "It's make up, not magic!" It can only do so much. Work it to your advantage.
All's I can say is "Thank God for concealer!!!!"

My opinion is meh...wear it, don't wear it...do what you want.
I wear make up sometimes but more often than not I go without. When I do wear it it is just eyes and lips. I don't think I've ever worn blush or bronzer a day in my life. I don't do the foundation, concealer, powder stuff. In fact, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

I enjoy make-up. I find it fun and artistic, and since I'm an artist, it's a challenge to me. Before I had children I would find any excuse to wear make-up.
Once I became a stay-at-home mom rather than a working mom, I only wore make-up for important appointments or social gatherings or date nights with my husband.
When I started back to work, I realized how little make-up I had for daily use so I had fun stocking back up. I wear it for work and date nights and Mom's Night Out and almost any occasion, really. I like feeling pretty again. I love playing with my look so I have formal looks, professional looks, casual, date night, Mom's Night Out, etc. It changes if my hair is down or up.
I'm a complete girlie girl. I didn't realize until I started wearing make-up again how much I missed it. :-) And it's not for other people, but for myself.

I'll powder my nose to go out if it's later in the day, if I feel like dressing up a little. I used to do full-face makeup and hated feeling like a slave to it. I like to just wash my face with a non-soap cleanser in the morning and call it good. My husband prefers to 'kiss your face, not your makeup', and I'm kind of low-maintenance this way. Jeans, a hoodie and pigtails is more my style.

The definition of wearing make up differs from region to region.
When I lived in Texas, it looked like ALL the native women there were hit by a Revlon truck on their way to work. I was young, healthy and vibrant back then and only wore facial lotion, mascara and blush.
Now in my 50's I like a little tinted moisturizer, blush and mascara with natural chapsticks like Burt's Bee's.
Considering how young you look, do you wear teenage style make up and brands?

I don't wear makeup. I've tried wearing makeup in high school, then college, then when I was working. I have severe allergic reactions to wearing makeup. In fact, I can't wear anything at all on my eyes--nothing on eyelids, no mascara, no liner. If I do, my eyes puff and swell way up. Then my eyelids weep and get a crust on them. It's gross, and not worth it.
I can wear makeup on my face, but I have to buy very expensive makeup. I have gotten to the point where it just isn't worth it. And now that I've been working at home as a freelancer for the past 8 years, I don't bother.
The most I'll do is put on a lightly tinted lip gloss. And I love the natural chapstick and lip glosses from Burt's Bees.
I have found that I've saved tons of money over the years by not wearing makeup. I mean, I'd literally spend almost $200-$300 on just 3 small beauty products in order to get something that I could wear on my face and not break out from.
I also quit perming and highlighting my hair about four years ago when I discovered how toxic the products are on the body. I have my hair layered and cut short and style it with a bit of gel. That's it. My husband loves how I look. My 13-year-old daughter can barely stomach wearing makeup the 4x she has to wear it once a year for dance recital--she might also be of the "no makeup" generation.
I think many women are beautiful with their natural beauty. They don't need to cover it up.

I don't wear any. Never liked the way it felt. Fortunate to have good even skin, plump dark lips and strong brows and long heavy lashes. If I'm doing a presentation or a special event, I'll slap on some lipstick, and touch my fingers to it and put it on the apples of my cheeks for some light blush. This happens about 5-10x a year. Otherwise my daily routine is some lip balm (if I remember).
good luck to you and yours,

I wear makeup and almost always have. Some of my young friends look great without any. But I've always had a basic make-up routine (fast, like yours) and it not only makes me look a bit better but it also makes me feel more put-together - a little more polished, you might say.
At my age now, I'm especially thankful for makeup because without it I look as if somebody just dug me up. Nobody should be subjected to seeing that.
Women using makeup don't have to go for a celebrity look. Some celebrities would look better if they dropped that look and looked like real people instead - real people who have respect for themselves.

I use a clear lip balm for my dry lips, and a touch of eye-shadow and color-corrective primer if I'm going out (both by DHC, unscented). Occasionally pink/beige lipstick. I have never tried a foundation that looks anywhere near natural on my dry, pale skin. They always look cakey, a look I hate. I can't get away with mascara now that I have more loose, elderly skin around my eyes; I end up looking racoonish.
I think makeup looks better on almost everybody if used lightly, unless they're going to be on camera. I sometimes see women who have on so much makeup they look like badly-painted dolls. And I am really amazed by mascara that is thick and clumpy – how can people even go out in public like that? You know, those little balls of product that stick to the ends of the lashes? Visible from a distance. (shudder) It makes even young, pretty girls look terrible, IMHO.

I do wear make up, not heavy but I do wear it daily.
Even though I have been SAHM and WAHM I refuse to fall prey to letting myself go, get frumpy and lumpy just because I got the mom card. I know there are many women who choose not to wear makeup and that is ok because it is their body but I prefer to keep myself in tiptop shape and looking far younger than I really am. I know my husband appreciates it as well..
To me it is self respect. I don't go out dolled up like a stripper nor would I go out like I could care less about myself and who sees me looking shabby. I am always amazed at how some people will actually go out in public and be ok with representing themselves that way. My dress, makeup, etc reflects my personality. I do look professional with whatever I wear for the day, even if I don't venture out of the house. I feel better about myself when I am freshly showered, hair done, makeup applied and I am much more productive.
ALL of my makeup, cleansers, moisturizers, etc are Clinique.
From shower to out the door for me is less than 45 minutes... Makeup is about 7 minutes of that time
Like you said... it is optional and to each, his own. I just do what is right for me.
PS............. NOT ALL TX women look like they were hit by a Revlon truck. You can look classy without all the dramatics.

I used to love glamour. Then, I had a baby and got tired. And I didn't want to get make-up on him or his clothes. And I HATE washing my face.
My daily routine these days is this: I give my face a good scrubbing (make sure it's smooth) and rub in moisturizer and foundation. I mix them. When that's smooth and perfect, I either finish the job at home or at work--blush and mascara and lip gloss. If I feel like doing my eyes...eyeliner and shadow.
When I go out, I make my face all the way up. I spend money on foundation, mascara, and lip gloss. I can appreciate a good bronzer on my cheeks, but lately it just lies on top of my skin making me look old (like frosting versus highlights), so I'm moving away from that.

I don't like trying a lot of new things on my face so there's no draw for me to experiment with make up. I'm more interested in moisturizing and not recreating the Sahara on my face. I wear more makeup when I go out for a special occasion but I also feel pretty enough without it.

But I have never worn foundation.
I only use a loose translucent face powder so that the make up can go on more evenly.
Then I pretty much just use the same color blush as my eye color too.
And then eye liner.
And then a dark, lip color.
My family, kids and husband, actually can never tell if I have make up on or not.
But to me, I may sometimes put on too much especially when I am in a rush.

I work w/ kids all day and they do not care that I have make up on or my hair down (I have long hair and wear it up every day.) I don't put on make up to go work out, I don't wear it to the store. BUT, I do like to put it on when going to anything for my kids (usually some foundation, eyeliner and lip gloss, just so it looks like I do care!) But when I get to go OUT, I do the works!!!! Eye shadow, mascara, pretty gloss! And I do look very different! Helps my eyes a lot (I have small eyes and no lashes!) Even my bigger daycare kids notice how different I look. I ran into a d/c mom out one night for dinner and I was all dressed up, hair down, make up on...she didn't recognize me! LOL! And no, I don't go all pageant make up crazy, I keep it minimal and blend well, but I do look very different!
LOL! Fun question! (O, my mom is old school...can't leave the house w/out make up on and hair done! LOL! Not me...that's what cute hats are for!)

Nope. I wasn't much into that kind of stuff as a kid and was rather shy about asking my Mom or older sisters about it as well. Plus I have allergies that weren't managed well as a kid and the idea of putting something on my eyes or near my nose would just be a risk for becoming a great mess or getting in my eyes.
I think the last time I wore make-up was either when I got married (20 years ago) or when one of my siblings got married (~15 years ago). So I pretty much wouldn't even know where to start with respect to applying make-up.
The times I did wear it, I always felt uncomfortable and it felt like a weight or thickness on me so I'd just as soon skip it.
I only have boys so unless they get into wearing make-up, I'm off the hook for teaching anyone how to wear make-up.

I never wear it. Why not? Well, probably because when I was young, my mother wore only some foundation, as I recall, so I didn't see her putting it on and I didn't have anyone to imitate. I never learned how to put it on, so aside from a lip gloss phase in junior high (anyone else remember when Bonnie Bell flavored lip glosses came in?), I haven't used it. My job doesn't require the made-up look, and my skin coloring with darker hair didn't make it feel necessary to alter anything.

I do not, but for a couple of reasons. I have very sensitive skin and I have yet to find a makeup that does not make me break out after just a few hours, and it was getting expensive to try make ups that just would not work for me.
The other reason is because I always broke out, I never really wore it and therefore never learned how to apply it the right way, so it never really does much for me when I do try it.
I just was not worth the hassle in my situation.

Generally speaking, I do not wear makeup. I tried when I was a teen, but I have nasty reactions to liquid foundations and most powders. My face feels like it's on fire and then gets a horrible rash and itches like there is no tomorrow. It didn't take long for me to figure out that it was not helping my appearance. *LAUGH!* There are a couple of brands of mascara and eyeliner that don't make my eyes burn, that I have for special occasions. My mother, also, was bent on finding a makeup for me that didn't bother my skin and bought me some mineral makeup. I haven't noticed a problem with it, but I might wear it once or twice a year.
At this point in my life, if I haven't cared enough to wear it daily by now, I probably never will.
I have, maybe, one friend who doesn't wear makeup on a regular basis, but she dolls up a few times a month. Every other woman I know wears it daily.

I don't wear it daily. Maybe once a week at most. Why? Because I never got into the habit, my coloring doesn't require it, and I'm pretty low-maintenance in general. I definitely look better with make up on, but I have fair skin with pink cheeks, dark hair, and blue eyes so when I don't wear make up, I don't have that washed-out-all-one-color look or look half-dead like some women do because of the combination of their hair color and skin tone. I think that going to an all-girls school in high school also plays into this is that most of us didn't wear make up and it seems to me that most women who wear make up daily as adults did so as teens. Finally, I only get my hair cut 2-3 times a year at most and usually wear it in a loose bun or pony tail, so the whole hair/makeup thing just isn't part of my morning routine. The 15 minutes it would take me to really do my make up or do something extra with my hair is 15 minutes that I don't have and I won't wake up earlier for that time.

i do. my routine is similar to yours, less than 10 minutes. (foundation, eye liner, shadow, eyelash curler/mascara, done. maybe some lipstick in a tried-and-true shade if i am feeling frisky lol) "less is more" and "blend, blend, blend" are my mottos. and i'm awful about taking it off. i haven't been wearing it regularly for more than a couple years.
i didn't used to. it was comfortable and relaxed and "easy" - but it wasn't me. i found i felt much better about myself, was more confidant, when i began wearing makeup to work every day. and THEN i started getting promotions. so with that i began dressing nicer (more than just any old men's t-shirt and jeans) and just FEELING better. so i am a makeup girl.
the funny thing is, i don't generally wear makeup to run errands or "run around" on the weekends (unless going to church or out to dinner or something). and it is ridiculously disgusting how different people treat you. i can stop at walmart before work and it is eye contact, holding doors, smiles. not without makeup and nice clothes. maybe it's just the area i live in - tons of snobs...but it really makes me think about things. and i stubbornly STILL intend to go makeup-less on weekends. BECAUSE of that. lol.
ETA: so interesting to me how many women wear blush, even if very little else. i have NEVER mastered the art. i think it's because my face is SO very round - there's no way to contour it without it looking silly. at least that's my story lol.
i also have to admit that when i am up-close-and-personal with my makeup routine in the morning, is when i feel prettiest. i realized that recently. i LOVE putting on makeup. hate taking it off, love putting it on lol.
