Hi moms,

I am looking to change my son's current pediatrician. I have already been through about four pediatricians trying to find the right one for my son with no luck. I've had some pretty bad experiences with them actually. I'm looking for some suggestions. I live in Irving, but would be willing to do a little traveling for the right pedi. So..........do you love your pediatrician? If so I would love to hear about them and why you do. Please only send names of pediatricians that you absolutely love and who are great with kids as well as the parents. We're looking for someone who has a small enough practice where they would have time to answer questions and return phone calls but who also is knowledgable and has a real connection with kids. Thanks moms!

I love my pediatrician. His name is Matthew Meyer. He's at 811 W I-20, Suite 214 Arlington. THe phone number is ###-###-####. My daughter is 3 months old, and he as been WONDERFUL so far. He takes the time to answer any questions that I have, including the silly ones, and he does it without making you feel like an idiot. He's great with my daughter...there's a love he has for children that you can see and feel when you're in his office. The clinic has a policy that a nurse must return all of the phone calls from the day before they leave for the day, so phone calls are ALWAYS returned the same day (normally within an hour or two). The other great thing about Dr. Meyer is that he has a daughter of his own. I think that makes him more understanding. He's kind of far away from you, but I think he'd be worth the drive. You can search for him in Yahoo and find his website. He's with the Medical Clinic of North Texas-South Arlington Peiatrics.

Good luck!

T.,
I think you should try Nina Cahan in Coppell (this would be very convenient for you since you are in Irving) ###-###-####. She recently was a 2nd opinion for me when my son was needed a 2nd opinion on matters related to some slow gross motor development skills. I currently see Dr. Michael Brown in Dallas at pediatric associates; and I recommend Dr. Brown still at ###-###-####. But if you are looking for someone who will personally return your calls, hug you if you are upset and crying about something and not have a nurse call you back etc, she is the one. This is not to say anything negative about Dr. Michael Brown (he has an excellent reputation in Dallas and I have a friend who also see's Dr. Brown) and I have a friend who also see's Nina Cahan for her daughter as well. Nina (as she likes to be called after she meets you for the 1st time) is an all encompassing doc and she can treat you for just about anyting - she can do everything from a physical to a papsmear. She is has a very different, and has a very tactual - hands on approach with her patients as if they were her own children/or family. Both offices have an exemplary staff. Carol (RN) at Brown's office is topnotch. And Nina's staff is also superb. Dr. Michael Brown (he is in a larger practice in Dallas of 5 or more docs - he is also someone we will continue to see.) He however, has a great deal of patients, and while he is very much a good listener and also has great bed side manner, I think you will find Nina a bit softer in disposition for a doctor. Either way, you can't go wrong. Good luck - and if you have any specific questions regarding either, please feel free to email me directly at ____@____.com (Oh, and just so you know - both doc's I see use thermosal free vaccines - and both are equally conservative docs).

My pediatrician is near Harris Methodist HEB, which may be a little far for you. His name is Alfredo Santesteban and I highly recommend him. Not only is he good with my son (35 months) but his office staff is patient, kind, full of joy, and always willing to answer questions, follow up with me afterwards, or schedule an unexpected appointment immediately (literally had me in the office 20 minutes after calling in). Dr. Santesteban has an after-hours, on-call nursing system that has been a tremendous help during those emergencies that always seem to pop ____@____.com, he's affiliated with Children's, so I know that if my son has to be in the hospital then he will be going to one of the best kids hospitals in the country.

My daughter sees Dr. Michelle Fowers in Irving (MacArthur & 635) and I like her very much. I had intended for my daughter to see our family doctor, Dr. Tricia Smith, who I really love, but when my daughter had trouble with finding a formula she could tolerate, Dr. Smith referred us to Dr. Fowers and I so like her, her way with my daughter and how she relates to me, that my daughter still sees her.

She listens to what you say and really responds and always appears to have infinite time to talk to you and answer all your questions, when I know she has a very busy practice. Also, she either has a really good memory or takes really great notes because she always remembers to mention everything about the last visit and all the things that we were going do/talk about/follow up on/whatever on the current visit.

Let me know if you have any questions about her.

I do!! I love, love, LOVE our pediatrician. We use Dr. Drieling at Pedatric Associates of Dallas. You can find them at www.padnewsletter.com. They're located at Walnut Hill between 75 and Greenville.

I started out using Dr. Michael Brown at P.A.D. because he was highly recommended by the nurses at the hospital I delivered at. He was very kind, but didn't have that special something... the connection with my son... that I wanted him to have. Then we got Dr. Dreiling. We LOVE him. He always plays with my son. That was important to me... because when a child is sick, you can tell a lot by the way they play and interact with you. Dr. Brown just came in, would examine, and leave. I didn't feel like he really cared. Dr. Dreiling always asks if we have questions, has never, ever rushed through the answers when we had some, and always puts my son at ease before examining him. We moved to Grand Prairie when my son was 8 weeks old (2 years ago), but I couldn't bear to leave Dr Dreiling, so we still make the 1/2 hour drive just to see him.

L-O-V-E him.

I see Dr Badaracco at Kids First in Highland Village and really, really like her. My daughter is almost 9 months and I specifically schedule appointments to be with her. I have seen other doctors there as well, and am happy with them. Dr. B, as she is known, came highly recommended. There are many nice things about their office from Saturday and evening appointments to a sick and non-sick waiting room. I now drive from Keller to HV b/c I don't want to change dr. Not to be sexist, but all the doctors there are women and moms and I think this positions they to be better doctors.
