Do You like AT&T U-verse - Dayton,OH

We have Time Warner Cable but are thinking of changing to U-verse. We would save about $15.00 a month and have basically the same channels, high speed internet and phone service. However, I do not know anyone who has U-verse. Do you like U-verse, what do you see as pros or cons? Would you change from Time Warner to U-verse?

What can I do next?

Our city/town was one of the first places in the US to get it so we've had it for just over 2 years now. We LOVE it. Absolutely no problems at all until 2 months ago when wireless internet suddenly stopped working. I called up customer service and within 15 minutes he diagnosed the problem (logged into box remotely) and told me the wireless antenna was broken and we needed a new box. An hour later, service guy rings my doorbell and has it fixed in 15 minutes. (swapped out old box for new one). So... less than 2 hours from first phone call it was all working - and that was with a service visit! You can't beat that!

We have twice as many TV channels, a HD package and much faster internet now than before but we pay about $30 less each month. It's great. Love recording/watching on any TV. We often start shows in the family room, stop them, go upstairs to get ready from bed and finish watching them in our room. I also like the interactive stuff, like during the olympics you could go to the 'olympic channel' and see 4 mini-screens of all the olympic action, see medal counts, read news about events, read bios of the athletes, see upcoming schedules, etc etc. Very useful and nice to have. You can also do some games, check weather, check sports highlights/scores, etc on other interactive channels.

I wish we had U-verse in our area. Make sure to look online to make sure it's available. To my understanding, they are only available in areas that have fiber optic cable run throughout the city. My city does not. I know 2 people who have u-verse and love it. The internet is very fast due to the fiber optic. And cheaper too! If you can get it, I would switch!

We had AT&T phone service and DSL internet for several years with really no problems. Last summer we decided to sign up for U-verse. The serviceman came out and after about an hour informed us that we could not get the service in our area. He had disconnected our phone service and left - my daughter was expecting "anyday" and I had no phone!! After several phone calls, we were told it would be "Monday" before anyone could come back out and reconnect our phones (this happened on Friday). So we called Comcast who had a serviceman at our house within the hour. He connected our phones and we have had their phone, internet, and cable since with absolutely no problems at all. I would not use AT&T and their services for any reason - seriously, I would do without before dealing with them again. They were rude, inconsiderate, unprofessional, and left us hanging.

We've had it for about a year and are very happy with it. It's nice to be able to record more then one show at a time and also very nice to be able to watch the recorded shows on any tv in the house. The customer service has been good as well. Picture quality, phone and internet have all been good.

I LOVE U-Verse. We've had it for over two years now and have probably only been without service (due to needing to reset the receiver) for 20 minutes total. We had DirecTV before, but U-Verse's customer service is a million times better - they're quick to resolve issues. The only con I can think of is that it takes several hours for them to get your house wired for it.

We have it in our house and absolutely love it. The DVR you can record mutiple shows on at once and then watch them from any room in the house is fabulous. Ours has been extremely reliable too. My only complaint would be you can only record and/or watch two HD programs at once right now. Anything else has to be in regular definition. I won't switch to dish as far as I know. I am very happy with U-verse.

We're using U-verse, just under our local provider's name (they said it's the same system). We've had it a couple months and love it! It's really great being able to record 4 shows at once and we love being able to use the DVR in any room. No complaints so far. Haven't had Time Warner to compare, though.

We had Time Warner and switched to U-Verse about 3 months ago. We just switched back to Time Warner last week! You have to be in a "good reception area" for U-Verse to work, otherwise the tv scrambles, blacks out and just stops. The internet for us also was a lot slower. We had a couple of techs out to try to remedy the problem, but they weren't able to, so we switched. An enormous pain, especially considering it takes about 4 hours for U-Verse to be installed...

We've had U-verse for a few months. Prior to that, all our services were separate, so we were able to save having the 3 (phone, internet, tv) combined. Overall we're very satisfied with the service.

We've had 2 problems. After they first hooked up, the internet worked fine for the laptops, but not the PC. The PC was purchased in 2004, and just couldn't handle the new speeds. Then just recently we had to disconnect everything for some work we were having done, and when we reconnected it wouldn't work. They sent someone out within 24 hours to reset the system.

It also takes a long time to initially set up. Plan on taking a day off work.

Hi R. -- I wouldn't switch. U-verse is inferior technology, lots of glitches. Honestly, both phone and cable companies are corporate thugs and you don't have much choice as you can see they engage in price fixing. In order to get better quality service at lower rates, the both phone and cable companies need to upgrade their wires to fiber -- but neither Time Warner nor att are putting in fiber. Given that the cable company uses coaxial cable -- it's better overall for video programming. Call Time Warner and tell them you're thinking about switching and see if they'll give you a deal and lower their cost to you. Sometimes they'll do that rather than risk losing a customer. And you don't have to go through all that waiting around for new service installation and calling them back to fix the new service when it's not working.

We have had U-Verse for about a year now. I have no complaints about the quality of service. Internet service works great, phone quality is crystal clear, tv reception is fantastic, love the TiVo. HOWEVER, keep a close eye on your bill. I hadn't really been paying close attention to this, and was somewhat surprised to see that my bill has been creeping up to over $200/month lately! (This includes phone, internet, and tv.) Apparently when we signed up we were on an introductory rate of around $100/month, and at some point that rate expired. If they won't back off on this crazy price, then I will switch back to cable or dish or something. So - just be clear on what your rate is, is my only advice with U-verse.

We had Time Warner before and have At&T U-verse now... For us the biggest pro is being able to record 4 shows at once (can only record 2 HD shows at the same time so it can not be all 4 HD channels at the same time).

We have never had a problem with service, except on of the remotes has worn out after two years of use so we are waiting to get a new one back. If you are tech savvy you can trouble shoot a lot on your own or call tech support and usually they can walk you through it if you understand technology terms and codes. SAVE all the info they give you, I have found that going through that first would solve any issue by walking you through how to reboot, change a code and so on (minus the failing remote) without having to call tech support.

As someone else mentioned look at how long the rate is good for, ours also expired after a year and at first it was cheaper then Time Warner but now it is about the same price. We just try to remember that every year we will check to see how much they are charging to make sure it did not charge or only went up a dollar or two.

We honestly were not happy with customer service from Time Warner, one of the biggest reasons we decided to take a chance and save a few bucks with AT&T Uverse. We got the service when it was still in trial mode about 3 years ago and all updates are automatic and usually takes less then 30 mins (have to warn you sometimes they are done during the day which pissed me off BUT most are done early morning 1/2amish).

We have never had a big issue that has ever made us regret the change. We are happy with them; we have TV, internet and phone service through them, all work well.

We had uverse about a year ago. I really liked it especially the DVR feature. As long as you're saving money I would definitely go for it. We no longer have it just because we replaced our old tv for a new one with HD and there was a fee to add the HD service to our uverse plan and the cost had just gone up a little bit so we decided to go without for a little while. It's actually not been too bad going without though I do miss the DVR! We still have the internet serive and it's been great. It did take them a while to install and a tech had to come back out but the techs were all very nice. I don't have any experience with Time Warner. Good Luck!
