Love these new fangled contraptions. Thing is though a baby old enough to wiggle over the side should be old enough to sustain a 1 foot drop. Where the heck were people putting those things?
Did you see that they have been recalled?
Just saw this story on msn.com, that the Nap Nanny has been recalled and pulled from Amazon, TRU and other stores.

They were being used in cribs, even though the instructions say to use only on the floor. 5 infant deaths and dozens of "falls" which I think refers to tipping over, in the crib, entanglement and near suffocations, from what I've read.
My daughter would only sleep in her car seat or swing for the longest time, so I get that the position is comfortable, but why is it necessary if you have a car seat or swing, two things that they can't roll out of easily...
If you see the recall pictures, they show a baby who has pushed up with his feet over the back left side of the device, wedging his head between the device and the crib slats.
I dont see how babies were dying. Parents were probably putting them in cribs as suggested, not wise! I can see a baby trying to roll over and suffocating.... but falling? Well, I guess if parents were dumb enough to set them on a countertop or the table... well then yes.. sadly the baby would hit the floor hard. Sad. Just like when the bumbo came out. Parents would set them on top of counters and babies would get seriously hurt. I wonder why they never recalled those things. They are still being sold!
I had , what I called, a baby lounger 36 years ago. It was really the original nap nanny. It had a reclining seat and two side panels that were high and straight across. Used it for all four of my kids. No one was falling out of that.
The nap nanny, when used correctly is great. My granddaughter loved it.
Once they get wiggly at around three months, it should be put away.
The middle of the sides on the nap nanny is low so I could see where there could be a potential problem.
Both Bumbo seats and Nap Nannies have been recalled but they have been reissued with modifications that help parents to use them correctly. They were a problem because they weren't used as instructed.
Google Nap Nanny. There was a similar question a few weeks back and I found several sites that talked about them.
