Does anyone else get this weird twinge when you see a Christmas question on Mamapedia, here in early October? I think I started seeing them in August!
Am I the only mom who doesn't want to think about Christmas yet?
No offense to you proactive moms - my mom was the same way! She had most of our stuff picked out and ordered in August so she could get a discount from the Sears catalog LOL. I really admire that ability.
I just can't handle Christmas planning right now! Am I the only one?
Did you notice the Christmas questions since this one? I think people are just trying to tweak me! :P

I doesn't bother me. I used to be one that refused to shop for Christmas until after Thanksgiving to take it all in. But after my husband forced me to shop early because we had a baby due, I completely changed my mind on the whole idea of getting Christmas done early. Last year was my second year shopping early and because I had it all done, I actually got to relax and really take in all the festivities going on around town. We attended parties, music concerts etc... without the added stress of shopping and wrapping. I prefer it now but I understand where you are coming from because I used to be of the same thought.

Nope.
You are not the only one.
I never got a summer, let alone start worrying about winter holidays.
I get so tired of Valentine stuff being up right after Christmas. Then Easter stuff at Valentine's Day.
At Easter, 4th of July stuff is out.
I'm over it.
Time goes by too quickly as it is and the merchandising and fretting about what to buy for the next holiday months in advance is just not my style.
Sorry, but that's my opinion.

LOL, IT'S MEEEEE!!
Here's the thing... If I don't do this NOW, Santa is NOT coming this year.
Now, I'm not that person who puts my Christmas decorations up before Thanksgiving, THAT drives me nuts... but I have to start thinking about and actually shopping, buying, and hiding gifts NOW. My husband is no help with this, and the time I can spend shopping sans kids is RARE... so really, if you think about how much time I really have to do this, it's probably a grand total of 12 hours from now until December 24th ;)

Fine by me!
I plan for the holidays early, but we have a "No Christmas until after Thanksgiving" rule in my house. I love Thanksgiving and it makes me sad to see it rolled-over. Somehow it seems like we should reflect and be thankful throughout the year, but having one day to set aside and count our blessings is wonderful! The morning after, my husband has the holiday music cranked, the decorations out of the attic and the tree half assembled before I get out of bed!
Having said that... we've been shopping along the way. Makes it less overwhelming.

I don't care about the Xmas questions from moms, heck I've already started shopping. It's the ads and holiday decor in stores and catalogs that kinda irk me. It's not even Halloween yet!

I do crafts, so I don't mind seeing them early. I do, however, mind seeing Christmas trees out at stores, which I did this past weekend.

It used to annoy me and then I actually got my act together and started planning early. It's a totally different experience when you start in October...way better and less stressful. So no, it doesn't give me a twinge anymore as I'm already thinking about it.

Long answer:
My grandfather's best friend in WWI was an Aussie who died right before they were to go home. In his honor, we all sing Christmas carols in July (it's pernicious, and I meet more xpat aussies & enzeds that way!... oh silver bells, sweet silver bells!). By the time ACTUAL xmas rolls around, I'm done. It's been halloween, tday, school... my brain is just twitching. But man, oh man, am I prepped during bathing suit weather.
Short answer: I LOVE xmas right now. It's later that drives me crazy.
((Mental Note : Aieeee....Order the frakin plum pudding!!! I always forget and it takes a month to get here!!! Gonna go do that now!))

I've already done most of my shopping. I got caught last year with getting last minute gifts. I don't want to do that again. Plus, this way I can afford to get more things b/c I spread it out over 5 months - I start in August. We are cash only too so this is the only way we can do it without feeling strapped. But I do hate seeing the Christmas stuff at the stores in October :)

I try to think of Christmas all year long..it is the time our Savior was born. What a glorious thought to have all year long.
I don't decorate til' after Thanksgiving. I like to enjoy each season as I am in it and each holiday as it approaches.
As for the Christmas planning ahead of time...yes..I do. I like to work on it all year long so that when the season comes I can actually enjoy the spirit of celebrating our Savior's birth. I like to enjoy December and soak up the lights, music, family time, gift giving, caroling, Christmas movies etc. I personally hate hustling and bustling with all the gift buying/making and getting all stressed out. I see a lot of my friends/family dreading the Christmas month because of the stress they are under trying to attain the "perfect Christmas". Ugh..I would be so sad if I felt that way about such a beautiful time of year.
So...no I don't get a negative twinge.
Good luck and best wishes at having a wonderful holiday season!

Nope. No weird twinge. Am I in full gear? No. But we have sooooo much going on from now until the end of the year, that yeah---we really do have to start putting thought and taking little steps now, so we're not stressed out or running around like chickens who've lost their little heads at the last minute. That's no fun.
I'm not a "media hype" kind of person by any means. BUT we have homeschooling, kung fu, horseback riding lessons, guests from out of town coming 3 different times (different groups) between this month and Christmas, all 4 of us have our birthdays in Oct, Nov, and Dec plus little friends and classmates parties. I LOVE all the seasonal parties and events and we do stay busy with those. We not only have our normal volunteer activities, but our church does extra stuff that we like to be involved in during the holidays. Then there are parties (that we throw, AND that other people throw to go to also!). Then there are the football parties, the UFC fight night parties, etc. The ballet or play to take the children to. The trip we want to take to VA to see the leaves turn. We can't just wait until December and suddenly get everything done. No I'm not a big "purchaser" (though I do like to shop for my family) but I am a big event goer-to (ok, made up word, but you get the idea). We don't actually wrap gifts, put up decorations, or anything like that until the day after Thanksgiving though. OH----and there's also our tradition when Thanksgiving celebration is winding down and we're relaxed, after the Cowboys finish playing, where we draw countries....that's how we choose a teacher, missionary, or group that we will sponsor for Christmas. Then we learn about that country and the people and their customs also throughout the month of December. We make a care package for who we're sponsoring, and then have a celebratory meal including dishes and music from that country. It takes a lot of preparation. But loads of fun!

As of now I need to get a list ready for all my kids nieces money, nephews well I already know what to get them. This year it has to be practical toys, items for their room,& things they need.I'm pregnant with our 4th & would just like to get things done as early as time & money allows.I don't want to have that worry that I won't be able to finish in time not just because i'm pregnant but time is going so darn fast it is October, there is Christmas out already.I don't know about your stores but ours is carrying very little seasonal merchandise.I love the Holidays!!!I want to enjoy the seasons as they come. Not really a negative twinge just the thought of OH MY more money to be shelled out for gifts that just sit in someones closet

You're not the only O..
I don't buy into the media holiday hype either.
I refuse to run like a puppet for a "O. day" sale OR "lowest prices of the season" either.
The earlier I start shopping, the MORE I KEEP shopping! Then frget what I have already bought.
The decorations go up AFTER the Thanksgiving ones (the few I do) are down, not before. Then I think about starting to shop.

I get the twinge when I see Christmas decorations out in July...I posted about that...
However, I will state that most of my Christmas shopping is done. I don't wrap it until after Thanksgiving. I do that because we are a cash only family and I like to spread it out...since our family doesn't have any birthday's after August, I start shopping then.

Yes, not because I see anything wrong with shopping in advance, I just hate all the holiday hoopla that seems to start as soon as the kids go back to school, bleh! I have already seen "reports" and "stories" on the hottest toys, shameless blatant advertising in a time when people can afford it less than ever :(
I'm always much more excited about the decorating, menu planning, cooking and entertaining, that's where the fun's at for me!

I am exactly the same as Rachel D. If I don't do it now, it's not going to happen. In fact I am one of the posters about Christmas, and have almost finished the shopping for my children. I am now planning other Christmas things such as baking days with my mother and sister, food organisation etc. I have to. I am broke and I have to spread out the cost so we have a happy, stress-free Christmas.

I'm having anxiety right now because I haven't even started planning Christmas. Last year, all of our presents were ordered by now. They arrived by Halloween and were wrapped and stored by Thanksgiving. It's not about getting a discount for me, it's about getting it out of the way and not having to stress the last minute holiday crowds. I've got 3 kids, 3-, 4-, and 5-years-old, and more times than not, the things they want are sold out by Thanksgiving.

Sorry - I'm one of the proactive ones, although August is a bit early for me. I usually start to think about Christmas/Hannukah gifts in October and am usually done with holiday shopping by mid-November. It kind of stinks in that I don't often get great deals/sales, but I feel better getting it done and out of the way - and as much as I love shopping, I HATE shopping during the holiday season with all the crowds!

I hate it too! Especially when I walked into Costco a couple of weeks ago..so SEPTEMBER...and saw Christmas decorations already! REALLY? Bleh. I make it a personal goal not to do any shopping or Christmassy things until after Thanksgiving. I would make myself crazy if I started thinking about Christmas in summer.

My sister already has her Christmas tree up and decorations... I think that is so CRAZY...
Questions do not bother me, I'm a procrastinator so it does start to push me a little...
I LOVE Christmas, I love decorating for it, but I also think there is a time for it... asking about what to get someone for christmas, well, I'm okay with that, but like my sister who already has her tree and stocking hung, well, that's too much in my book..

I think lots of people feel that way. I do not mind it at all. I love Christmas and think about it often during the year. I save ahead and if I find something for someone on my list and it happens to be July, I'll go ahead and buy it! So it doesn't bother me...but it probably would bother you to know that I listened to Christmas music on my computer the other day! LOL
