I loved the line in 'Gone with the Wind' where she says 'tomorrow is another day' or something like that. That's how I approach my exercising. :-( I need to though.
Why or why not?
If you do exercise, what do you do? If you don't exercise what would be a form of exercise that you think you would enjoy?
I exercise about five days of week. I run mostly, but I also do kick boxing. I am supposed to be strength training, but I shy away from it because it's hard and not a whole lot of fun!

5 days/week.
I personally love to lift. I see the best benefits and boosts in my metabolism from lifting. Cardio doesn't do much for me without a weight component.
So...
Step aerobics, heavy lifting, circuit (so, lighter weights), HiiT in bootcamp style, some kickboxing. Lately, I've started to get into yoga and pilates, to help me with stretching and flexibility. I tend to beat myself up pretty hard, and I don't do a good job of allowing my body to "release".
I mostly use Cathe Friedrich, becuase she has enomous variety, kicks my a** HARD, and I like her style.
I first started exercising because I wanted to fit into some clothes. That's still nice, but I have other reasons now, too. As I get older I realize I will be a burden to myself and possibly to my children if I don't take care of myself. In addition, my husband is diabetic and has a number of other medical problems, and there has to be *one* healthy person at home!
I have been exercising seriously for about eight years. I do strength training with a trainer, and it's worth every penny. Not only is it good for me, but I also love the one-on-one teaching from someone who knows what I particularly need to do and how I should do it. The accountability also helps me keep on track. I can't say I've lost tons of weight or dropped twelve dress sizes, as commercials always say, but I'm learning to have healthier habits (including my eating) than I *ever* had in the decades before, and I can safely say I'm healthier now overall than I've ever been.
This month my goal has been to exercise thirty minutes a day, six days a week. Well, maybe five. I do 5Ks in the spring and summer (more walking than running), and I up the exercise time to prepare for those. So I spend a lot of time on the treadmill - or outdoors - but I like to mix things up because I get easily bored. Stair machines, rowing machines, bicycles are good changes. The elliptical machine is not my friend but I manage on there for a little while. Sometimes I go to a class at the gym, and those are fun. When I can get to a Zumba class, I have a great time trying to do every move and looking as idiotic as I can.
If you'll commit yourself to some strength training for a while, I think you'll find you'll improve in the things that you *do* like to do, and you'll enjoy that. Slow and steady is the rule for strength - a bit at a time. It's easy to try too much too soon, and that gets frustrating.
Yes I exercise and have since my twenties (I am 45 now). Some people scrapbook for a hobby, I exercise. I enjoy it and try new things all the time. I like variety. I do a lot of weight training - I enjoy it now. Not so sure I did 15 years ago. I do yoga. I run. I ride my bike. I do kickboxing....etc. I have started just setting goals for specific time period and focus on those. Right now I am training to ride in a MS150 ride (2 day bike ride - 75 miles each day). I continue with weight training and cross training during this time. After May I will change up my routine to focus on something else. Always have to change it up to keep the interest going and not plateau.
I will say my kids are older and it is much easier now than when they all 3 little and needed more of my time. As they got older we did some activities together and that has been fun. The past 2 years my daughter and I have done a mud run together and that is a blast!
Yes.. I actually love working out! It's a stress reliever, and I like the feeling of working out..
I do circuit training at a boxing gym.. It's an AMAZING workout!!!!! Very high intense (sometimes too high and I can hold my own)...
Every 3 minutes you do a different exercise..
Example:
-jump rope for 3 minutes (you'd be surprised, you'll be sweating)
-hitting a bag for 3 minutes
- squats with throwing a ball up on the wall
- running in the back of the gym. Quick sprint
- speed bag
- kettle ball...
etc etc etc etc
ALL IN 30 MINUTES!!!!! There's a trainer at the gym that tells everyone what to do when the 3 minute bell rings...
GREAT WORKOUT!
Three to four days a week. I am 41 and I do it for my health and weight. I have zero metabolism now, so it helps my clothes fit, but I exercise mainly to stay healthy.
I do weight training and cardio (treadmill or bike at the gym or walking the dog outside). Can't say that I enjoy it, but I always feel good afterward.
Yes! I workout 4-5 times a week - I run long distance, lift weights, and do cardio(mostly stair master) at the gym. Sometimes it's hard to find the time, and hard to get up at 4 am, but its totally worth it! I'm almost 38 and I still weigh the same as I did in high school.
I also want to add that I workout because there is no way I could diet. I eat whatever I want and could never change that. When you try to limit food by dieting it gives the food power over you, makes you think you want more than you actually do. But if you have the mentality that I can eat whatever I want...you want less. If I eat more one week (because of PMS or something) I just workout more.
I plan to try african dance one day.
I play tennis Mondays and Tuesdays and swim for 1/2 to 1hour Wed, Thurs and Fri. I used to do kettle bells 3 - 4 times a week and use my elliptical 5 times a week. And I might go back to that. But right now, I'm really enjoying the tennis and swimming. I should add in strength training back in, I know. And maybe I will once I finish my radiation treatments (which I don't even start for a few weeks). I've been doing the tennis and swimming thing since September - I feel strong and healthy...and another bonus: I've lost 30lbs!
I am addicted to kettle bell classes! I've been doing them for a year, and I've never been stronger or had better abs! They truly work wonders. I also run and am currently training for a half marathon in April. Those are the two "contants" I enjoy. I also enjoy hiking a lot, biking and swimming -although I prefer to just "enjoy" swimming and not do it for a workout. I find I can almost not abide regular exercise classes anymore.
I do it to keep weight off both for vanity and health reasons. Even if I didn't have to watch my weight, I would exercise for health. Everything from my brain to my toes feels and works better when I exercise regularly! I exercise 3-6 days per week depending on the chaotic schedules of life. Since I'm training for this half, I've diligently been trying to get at least 5 days a week in.
I have too! I started this suprise (yes, I said surprise because 99% of me wasn't expecting it! :) ) pregnancy at almost 200 lbs and I refuesed to put on my typical 40 lbs this time.
I work out 5 days a week: m,w,sun is water aerobics only and tues/thurs is Zumba followed by water aerobics as a cool down.
Plus, with three kids and one on the way, as a SAHM I really needed something to ground me and give me my sanity back. My husband likes to complain about staying home with the kids for the one to two hours before he puts them to bed (hello hubby! I just spent the last 22 hours with them, it's called being a parent!), but he was concerned about gestational diabetes so I think secretly he's proud of the weight I haven't put on.
I LOVE excersising....but with a 15 month old and 3 year old at home, plus a kindergartener it's tough to find the time. Also, I'm one of those "lucky" people that doesn't lose an OUNCE of weight while breastfeeding....so now that my youngest is weaned, I'm hoping the weight will come off a little faster :)
But I do enjoy "the burn"; it helps me sleep better at night, makes me less likely to reach for unhealthy snacks (because it would just negate the workout if I did), gives me more energy and just makes me feel good.
I do Bikrim Yoga 5 days a week, and have been doing it since June. LOVE it, especially after I'm done for the day :) I've worked out for years but kept getting injured. I'm now 47 and haven't been injured since I've started doing Bikrim.
Good luck whatever you do!!
I do exercise. I'm 33 weeks pregnant right now, so it looks a lot different, but I still power walk 30 minutes at least 4 days per week. I have to- it's my "downtime" at the end of the evening. After my son is in bed, dishes are done, lunches are packed and coffee is made... mommy retreats to the basement for 40 minutes of QUIET! I also find that I generally feel better when I am exercising regularly. When I get out of routine, I get crabby!
Yes, I do. I do it for my health. I exercise a few times a week by a Wii fitness program or walking. I don't do it for any other reason then health. I HATE exercising. I hear people saying it gives them more energy, focus, makes them happy. It does the exact opposite for me. It makes me tired. (I'm healthy, all levels great. There is no real reason, just how my body reacts!!) I have a high metabolism to begin with, and exercising makes me a ravenous maniac. I exercise the bare minimum. Thank goodness I have not had weight problems. I don't know what I would do, if I really HAD to work out :( I just hate it!!
I go for runs, I hop on the elliptical in our garage, or I do my kickboxing video. I probably work out 3X aweek, I aim for 4 but it just doesn't happen with small kids around and two working parents.
I don't feel like the working out does much for me physically, I mean, I seem to look and weigh the same no matter what (probably because I never change my eating habits). But it can't be hurting and I like that I am modeling good health behavior for my kids. They love to see me doing the workout video and will try to do it with me sometimes! It's cute because they are little and their attention spans are short. The 4 year old will even run upstairs to put on "her workout clothes" with the intent of doing the video. It's really just an excuse to change outfits for her.
I have to excercise, otherwise I gain weight!
I am dedicated to my excercise !
It has kept my skin healthy and firm, too.
I meet a group a friends at a gym 1 day a week. I do 50 crunches, cardio for 20 minutes and lift light weights for an hour. **I worked with a trainer for 6 months, so I am comfortable (and in correct form) on the machines at the gym.
I walk outside (a minimum of 1 mile) whenever I have a friend to walk with.
I do toning excercises 1 or 2 nights a week.
I am going to buy a 5 lb. kettle ball next week. I hope to get a video, too.
Running is too rough on my knees. I taught aerobics for years and I overdid it on these knees!
SORT of.
This year has been in the tubes. 6mo in and out of Children's hospital, then I blew out my knee (brace from ankle to hip :P), then I had shoulder surgery. I'm only JUST NOW getting back to normal. AND I DON'T HAVE A CAR!!!
((Stupid STBXH took off with our Jeep in December. Then, in court, his lawyer said he needed it for work, and the judge agreed. Thwibbt! Work! He's taken the durn bus to work for 3 years!!! So the homeschooled child, with medical problems that need doctors appts weekly and 1-3 classes and activities per DAY that are NOT in walking distance and I have NO TRANSPORTATION. Grrr. Breathing. Breathing. Stepping back from the ledge. Okay. Moving on))
Normal:
- 3-5mi walk or hike with the kid and the dog any day it's not raining and we're home
- Snowboarding in the winter, Swimming & Sailing in the summer
- Dancing while cleaning
- Twists for a few months every other year or so
- Gymnastics in the house (handstands, walkovers, etc.) whenever I feel the need to be upsidedown (regularly)
- DIY house remodeling
I would LOVE to add
Crew in the spring
Aikido year round
Horseback riding year round
Surfing (wrong geographical locale... but the others are doable WITH transportation. Only Aikido is expensive.)
I do, 6 or 7 days a week for the last year and a half ( 9 months of which I was pregnant) I lost a lot of weight and toned like crazy. I'm getting my sexy back :0)
I'm currently looking for some restorative tummy stuff because I had a baby 5 days ago and of course I had to leave my abs alone the last 5 months.
I like it all,,, kick boxing, yoga, Pilates , aerobics, bike riding, walking, tennis, swimming, kettle balls, weights, medicine ball, strength bands, stability ball, punching a heavy bag, rollerblading, super sets, cardio/strength intervals.
I really want to try hot yoga and running.... It's on my to do list.
This past year, I have started working out regularly at a gym. I'm proud that I've been going , consistently. I like the mix of people there, everyone is really nice, helpful , & supportive. Anyway, I take 4 Pilates classes a week ( I'm addicted) & 2 strengthening classes, a week. I also try to do 45 min of cardio, 3 times a week but usually only get it in twice a week. Cardio isn't my favorite. I get bored with cardio but feel I'm not coordinated enough for the cardio based classes.
