It is called "my mommy" night. I do not do O. thing that doesn't involve what my kids want me to do.

For example, I am a full time worker and when I get home most nights, I am busy cooking, doing laundry, making lunches, etc. My kids want my attention and want me to play with them, and I do, just not as much as they want each night.

Well, last day of school (night) is theirs. I don't cook, clean, or do anything. We order out if we have to. And we play games all night. Star wars, candy land...oh what fun. Lol

I think it was first or second grade~My daughter and I and her best friend at the time and her mom took the girls out for fro yo... it was simple and special enough to have my daughter remember it all these years later, she is 23!

I think that it is all in the way you make the memory. Watching those sweet sixteen parties makes my stomach turn. I feel sorry for kids whose parents spoil them so relentlessly now. Bounce houses and monkeys and huge parties makes me wonder what kind of adults these kids will turn into with such high expectations of special occassions.

We planned the fro yo date a couple of days in advance so the kids would have it to look forward to and it is a special memory for my daughter.
I think it is in the planning of something that makes it special... the recognition of the end of school... just be careful what you plan and what kind of expectations you set up cuz depending on how old your kids are... you will have a lot of last day of school celebrations in the future!

This is my first Last day of school year for me. I am super excited about it.

When I was a kid my sister and I were two years apart. So, when we were in school together, we would go out for lunch and shopping for ''summer'' clothes. We usually would go to this great Chinese place. Sadly it no longer exists. After we started in at different schools, my mom would take us out for ice cream and shopping since our release times were different. Once we got into HS we didnt really continue it. My mom was working out of the house providing child care to teachers, so she would have to work all day. We also would go and hangout with friends.

Now that I think about it, she is a teacher now herself. So, maybe this year my kindergarten and I will surprise her at school on the last day and take her out for lunch....I hope she will see the sentiment!

Oh, Thank you!! My momma is gonna be so tickled! Thanks for the question!! very helpful!

Already next week for you?? the kids here will be in school until June 20th!

Pool party! I am a bit annoyed with my son though, he is not sure if we will do it this year. Of course remind of that when I have seven boys fighting in the backyard, and sunscreen enveloping my entire house like the blob.

I only have O. son in school right now, pre-k. On his 1st day just me and him went out for pizza after school. We will do that for his last day too. Nothing exciting, but just something I'll remember and can tell him later. Plus he doesn't like our homemade pizza, so he loves going out for pizza.

We kick it off w/the parents ambushing the children w/water balloons off the deck on their way home from school (i know, we're mean). Followed up w/48 cans of silly string divided up btwn all of the neighborhood kids, a bar-b-que, more water balloons, a scavenger hunt & maybe some jello wrestling (if my husband lets us).

My house is known as "Camp Chaos" and we'll be moving to the other side of town this summer so we have to go out w/a big bang! We've been doing this since my daughter finished 1st grade and each year it gets a little crazier!

We only do a little something if it's a milestone like last year when my triplets finished up preschool I brought them each a balloon and a treat from the store since I was out shopping. I might buy a treat or something, maybe take out to dinner after finishing middle school or elementary school but it's not mandatory and not something huge. It's kind of a relief for the child and for the parent to finish up a section of school like elementary and middle school, lol!

**Wanted to add that we don't do something at the end of every school year because they're about to start 3 months of loafing and driving us nuts and having all the lazy time they want. Not gonna reward them for that! LOL

My son is in first grade so I've only had O. end of year so far. Last year I took the day off and picked him up (early release day). We went out for lunch and went and saw How to Train Your Dragon together. He loved it. This year I am getting off early at work and taking him to lunch again and a movie.

Not usually. School's last day usually falls on a work day for me.
But when my son finished first grade (it was such a miserable teacher he had that year but he did well in spite of her) when we finished the half day of school we were packed up (ready for a few overnights) and drove to Cass WV and we rode the train (steam engine) to the top of the mountain.
On the way back we also made a stop at the Green Bank Telescope, WV - they have a nice museum there.
We had such a good time!

I am so glad you asked this question. I am starting to feel guilty about missing a not-very-important work meeting so that I am home when my kids come home today (last day of school and early dismissal). We always go out for an ice cream cone and talk about the school year. I think we will also take the dog for a long walk on the beach as the weather is finally warming up. We don't do anything extravagant, but my kids do love this tradition and as they get older (8 and 12) I really cherish the time to stop and really focus on all of their accomplishments.

I used to throw a big pool party for the kids' friends and parents and just serve cut up fruit and crackers. Now we don't have a pool :(

I like to celebrate with my kids', and their friends and mom's who can make it too....either an ice cream party at home or bowling.. Our house backs onto a big preserve now, so maybe we'll have a party here...maybe not...Maybe we'll do a movie night..IDK, I haven't thought that far out yet...but best start.

Do you always think this far out? School is out June 30th here.
