Disney World - Leaving Sunday with My 20 Month Old

We leave Sunday for a one week vacation to Disney World with my 20 month old

Now that it is almost here I'm looking for any last minute tips... we are staying on property (Pop Century Resort), we rented a car, we have park hopper tickets, and the quick service meal plan.

Rides to hit? Rides to avoid?

Where to eat? Where not to eat?

Anything we must do? Anything we must avoid?

This will be his second time going on a trip with plane travel... he has his own seat.

Thanks

What can I do next?

We are regulars to WDW. I live about 10 to 15 minutes from the park. I suggest getting fast passes for:
Peter Pan & The many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at Magic Kingdom
Toy Story Mania at Hollywood Studios
Kilimanjaro Safari at Animal Kingdom
Those are the ones that I know are always busy. Try to get reservations in some of the theme restaurants. The Crystal Palace has Winnie the Pooh and friends and really good food. The castle is really hard to get in, but good food there as well. I have never had a problem with any of the food is the smaller restaurants around the park.
The food and wine festival is going on at Epcot, you can get a taste of so many different foods there too. We like dining in Germany, Italy and Mexico.
Just remember there is so much to see. I have been there more times than I can count and still have not seen everything. I do like that almost all the rides will allow your son to go on.
If you go to Downtown Disney you will like the Rain Forest Cafe.

And make sure to bring your stroller or rent one. I see parents with little ones and they look so pooped out carrying around their kids, drink, bags etc.

Have a great vacation.

We just got back from Disney world weds with my 15 mth old. He didnt have his on seat but did very well but it was a short flight. Biggest tip i can give is buy a unbrella and sunscreen at walmart before you go in this 2 items together in disney cost me $34 together i was so mad i forgot to pack em. I was really suprised at how hot it still was there it hit 100 degs one day last week so be sure and bring lots of water. Good shoes too my ankles hurt for days lol. If your gonna bring a stroller toys r us has those lil ones for $20 which was a great investment for us since renting them at the park was 20 a day. Bring ur own food in if ur on a budget they didnt say anything to us and i brought fruit sandwiches cookies etc, i think one day we spent 32 bucks on two cold cut sandwiches and drinks and a grilled cheese for the three of us in the lil bakery on main street in disney and my son wouldnt even eat so i packed lunches everyday after that.... Have a blast and if u get a chance to go to universal studios while you are there the new harry potter attraction is amazing .....

You rented a car, smart smart smart, especially since your staying at one of the outside resorts. We went last December, stayed the same place you are and the bus system was almost the death of me.
Take frequent breaks, you really have more time than you think. Have fun!

Woohoo, Disney World!!! Wish I was going!

Let's see- personally, with a 20-month-old, I'd probably skip EPCOT. If he is particularly wild about fireworks, you might be interested in going just for that, but my daughter was scared to death of them, and was happy watching from afar. Animal Kingdom is awesome. If you think of it as a zoo and not as a theme park, you'll be blown away. Try to take your time and not rush off to the rides. I wouldn't take him to see It's a Bug's Life, as it's surprisingly scary. But there is a very fun playground in Dinoland USA (in Animal Kingdom) with a dinosaur dig that would probably thrill him for hours.

MGM really only has one thing going for it, especially for the smaller ones- the Toy Story Midway Mania. The other rides and exhibits are really kind of boring for the kids.

Magic Kingdom- oh, just try everything! My daughter loved it's a small world when she was 3. There's Tom Sawyer's Island that you have to take a raft over to, but then it's all exploring, so he might like that. I can't remember if the Dumbo Ride is closed right now, but I think the Carousel is open, and the line goes very fast. The People Mover is a surprisingly fun thing to do when you need to sit down. He's probably too young to participate in the Space Ranger Spin, but not too young to appreciate it. He might also like driving the race cars. I think Toon Town is closed (bummer). I'd avoid Pirates of the Caribbean unless your son is super-adventurous. There's not really anything scary, but they don't know that, because it's dark and spooky sounding. Ditto on the Haunted House. Flying Carpets is just as much fun as Dumbo with a shorter line. My kids didn't care for the Snow White ride.

Last time we went, my 21-month-old nephew was absolutely BONKERS about the Main Street Electrical Parade- I have videos of him dancing his little heart out. The fireworks are always fantastic, but again only if he's a big fan. Otherwise, consider hopping on the monorail over to the Polynesian and watching the fireworks from across the lake. Still very pretty, and they pipe the music out on the beach so you can still experience it.

Meeting characters- we usually take an autograph book for the characters to sign. My nephew didn't care about the book, but he sure loved meeting all the characters.

One other thing about EPCOT- it's Food and Wine Festival time right now, and you can use your snack credits to sample the wares. I know I said not to go to EPCOT, and I really mean it, but if you want to go out one night without your son, this is a fun thing to do.

Take advantage of the Extended Hours for on-site guests. The crowds are significantly smaller at those times.

Gosh, so much to say. Really, you should check out www.allears.net if you haven't already. They have menus for all the restaurants, park hours, parade schedules, resort maps, ride closings, etc. Very helpful. And I know I sound like a Disney nut, but that's because I AM a Disney nut!

Have fun!

Go to allears .com for lots of tips. i probably would have skipped his own seat and the rental car and used the money to upgrade the hotel to the Wilderness because it is close to the magic kingdom (you take a boat there). Make sure to include a nap everyday. Have magical day!

I would ditch the car if you are on property. You will not need it. Disney
provides bus service from the airport. and it is free.

As far as the rides go, I am not sure how many the baby can go on. So you
and your husband will have to take turns going on the things you want to go
on.

If you have the quick service meal plan, you can really only go to the counter
places to eat. If you want a restaurant with table service, I hope you made
your reservations already. Sometimes they are hard to get.
