Discharge - Elkhart,IN

This is embarassing for me but here goes...
I was using the bathroom and something fell out. Literally. My immediate instinct that I was one of those women who had just happened to have a baby on the toilet, or miscarriage. When I looked down I noticed a "glop" of mucus/discharge that was almost flesh colored!? I am not pregnant but I would equate it to that "plug" most of us are familiar with. I have had light cramping all day.
However, I recently stopped taking birth control pills and would be due to start again this time of the month. I'm not trying to get pregnant either.
So there it is. I'm baffled and horrified. I've had three good past annual paps and have not switched partners but I'm worried that perhaps this is something cervical?

What can I do next?

More than likely you were ovulating. If you've been on BC for a long time you wouldn't have had this so this is going to be something new. After having been on BC for years my husband had the big V and all of a sudden I started doing this same exact thing. If you goggle ovulation and read about it, during this time your discharge will become thick, have a very mild color and sometimes can be sightly blood tinged, and will even notice a slight smell sometimes. Keep in my your body is going to take a while to keep back to normal so you may not ovulate at the same time every month for a while. Also, I never ovulated before kids (hence the reason for invitro) and now every month I can tell exactly when I ovulate and exactly 2 weeks later I will start my period.

It almost sounds like you may have had a miscarriage. I would have yourself checked out by your doctor.

as gross as it may sound...I would've scooped it out and taken it to my Dr. to be SURE of what it was and what caused it? sounds a bit disturbing.

Once your body is off hormones and on a natural cycle, it will produce mucus during your fertile times of the month. Some women have discharge almost the entire month and it changes consistency during ovulation. Still contact your doctor if you are concerned but I would bet it was something natural (though alarming, of course!)

You could be ovulating! When you do that, you can have a lot of discharge and cramping, or you could have a yeast infection. Give your doctor a call.

I have a friend this happened to once. When I asked my OB/Gyn about it, he told me that it's not unheard of for a woman to shed the lining of the uterus in one fell swoop (sort of like a soft-shelled egg), rather than in a monthly period. It's not common, but not unheard of either. Wouldn't it be nice if we could do it that way every month? ;-)

Still, you might want to call your doctor and make sure everything is OK.

I would remember that birth control pills sort of are a fake pregnancy and a certain amount of "build-up" occurs while on them that the body will discharge when you go off of them.
I might talk to my OBGYN about the situation, but not be overly worried.

K.- It sounds very possibly like you had a miscarriage. When I had my miscarriage that's pretty much what happened-though mine was followed by alot of bleeding. Either way, you should definitly see your GYN. I'm sure everything will be fine-but You will fell better if you know for sure :)

Happens to me all the time. Especially when I am ovulating. AND especially now that I am pregnant and there is always more discharge than normal anyway.
This may sound gross but I have never had a problem with being "dry" down there so to me that sounds like nothing new but if it is new to you just watch for a couple of things. Like, if there is a change in odor or a change in color. It always looks weird in the toilet because a toilet is more white than what the discharge is. I bet you are ovulating though and I wouldn't worry too much. If it still continues to bother you though you could always get it checked out just to be sure.

My friend, never having a baby before, had a very similar situation. The docs told her that when on birth control for awhile you can actually form a mucus plug, and pass it when you stop taking it. It's a possibility.

Hi K.,

I also stopped taking birth control, and am avoiding pregnancy, and pretty much the same thing happened to me earlier this week. It is probably something to do with what the ladies before said.

I had something very similar happen to me after stopping the BC pill. My doctor said that one of the ways BC pills work is to create a mucus barrier. Therefore, it was being released after the hormones stopped.
Don't worry about it ...but call the Dr if you are concerned and/or if there is an odor or other severe symptoms.
