Hi mamas...this is a quick one. Has anyone had any experience with Direct Buy? We are looking to do a major renovation and we've read alot about Direct Buy online but haven't heard from any "real" people! I'm looking for both positive and negative experiences. I know you have to join the day you use your free pass so I want to know as much as I can before taking a look at it. Thanks for your help!

no real experience...I have heard that one of their peeves is you have to go there with your spouse--which makes me think they want to give you both the hard sell, put you on the spot, and put way too much pressure on you to make a lot of big decisions all at once. When they say on their commercials "we save thousands" I wonder if they just mean off the MSRP price--walk into any furniture store and they will show you their price on that day is less than MSRP price and try to convince you what a great deal you are getting!!!

Perhaps though you are interested in the convenience of everything being in one place--maybe that IS a time saver with 2 kids.

Are either you or your husband eligibile through your jobs for "The buyer's edge"? I can recommend going through them for as much as you can if the services they offer match your needs.

We were going to do a major renovation on our house, now are trying to sell. So- we haven't actually used them, but did join. So, I can't speak to the quality of anything. Yes - everything is ordered out of catalogs - which I find irritating, but I do think many items are much less expensive. But, this year and with the internet- you may be able to get better deals from the internet.

And - just to let you know the kicker - the fee to join is pretty steep. Ours was $4800. So you have that info before you go in and get pushed into buying into it.

My aunt and uncle joined. They said it is a huge waste of money. They only have a few things in their show rooms and everything you have to pick out of catalogs. They are re-doing a bathroom the vanity came in twice damaged, this was after weeks of waiting for it to come in. They ended up having to have the second one refinished cuz it had a huge scratch and gouge in it. Nothing comes in on time and it's not worth the hassle. I wouldn't waste my money.

We joined 3 years ago, and have save quite a bit of money. Some items you can find cheaper on line, but their kitchen cabinets and granite prices are really great. Electronics you save nothing, but couches and furniture you do for sure. It is difficult purchasing out of catalogs, but look in stores for the real thing, and then go and order.
