Diets That Work?

I was wondering if anyone knew of any diets that really work? I have never really had a weight problem until I got pregnant. Through pregnancy and 2 1/2 yrs later I have probably put on almost 80 pounds and just don't have the will power to do what I am supposed to do to take it off and it's getting way out of hand. Any ideas would be really appreciated!

Hi, my name is M.,and I have lost about 85lbs since I started this diet put out by Gwen Shamblin and The Weigh Down Workshop. You can go to www.weighdown.com, to find out more information. This diet really works, and you can keep eating the foods you like, it's the greatest diet I have ever tried.

Way to go. No one can take your degree away once you have it.

The best diet is Weight Watchers. Check into it before you discard it. You are taught a new way to eat.

Hi L..

Diets don't work, no matter how good they claim to be. You have to change your whole life style. You need to burn off more calories than you take in. That means you have to eat less and exercise more! That's really the only way to shed the pounds. It will probably involve changing your attitude toward food.
Good luck!

L.--I have your answer to losing weight and the perfect diet! I am a distributor of Herbalife. The only reason I sell it is because of what the product did for me. You can check out all the info on it where I have posted under "mom owned businesses"....it is under Cosmetics & Beauty, because I also sell Mary Kay.

Let me just tell you what Herbalife did for me. I was carrying around 50 pounds for 2 years that I just absolutely could not get off, I tried everything, to no avail. I am 36 and, before the weight gain, had never weighed more than 120 pounds in my life. Then I had some health issues and the medications they put me on caused my weight to soar to 170 pounds! So, one day, about 6 weeks ago, I was searching the internet and ran across Herbalife. So, I thought......"okay, nothing else has worked, maybe this is the real deal"....well, it only took me 2 weeks to figure out that it was and is THE REAL DEAL!!!! In 6 weeks, I have lost 21 pounds and 31 inches!!! And, it's so simple. You have a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch, and anything you want for dinner. Of course, along with the shakes, you take multivitamins and cell activators, which are all natural and make your metabolism and energy shoot through the roof! You never feel hungry.........trust me, after every diet I have been on, I always felt like I was starving myself, because I love to eat! But the Herbalife products keep you feeling full, and the part I liked the most was I starting seeing results immediately.

So, check out my listing here on mamasource and if you are ready to lose that weight, email me at ____@____.com and we can get you on your way to reaching your goals!

Hope to hear from you soon,

S. Woodall

Try weight watchers! It has worked for me in the past. I lost 25 pounds a couple of years ago. It is a very easy and successful weight loss plan to follow. If you have a weight watchers near you or if you know where a meeting takes place, I would consider that. WW teaches you portion control and makes you more conscious about your food choices. It is not a diet but a lifestyle change. You will find that there are so many people out there who are in the same boat as you! If you do decide to try it, I have 2 pieces of advice: Go to the meetings and make sure you write down what you eat (unless you are on the core plan). Good luck!

I'm not sure that any of them actually work for the long haul. Some may work temporarily but then you gain the weight back. I do know that Weight Watchers truly works. EVERYONE I know who has done it has lost weight and kept it off. It's a point system and you have to write down everything you eat and keep up with your points. It makes you more accountable and makes you think before eating. With that and exercise you will certainly lose. Best of luck!

Fad diets are just expensive and you end up buying a bunch of weird food you would never normally eat. What worked for me was writing down the foods I normally ate and at the end of the day adding up how many calories and how much fat i ate. It is shocking to see how much you are getting from certain foods. Then i just made modifications from there to try to get those numbers down to where they need to be. There are lots of websites that will calculate how many calories you should eat to loose and maintain. Honestly, if you want the weight to come off with out haveing to really restrict you food intake you have to exercise, even if it is just a 30 min walk around the neighborhood. One more word of advise, don't make major changes all at once or you won't be able to stick to it. Change a few things a week and give yourself a reasonable amount of time to see results. There is nothing more motivating than we you start to see that scale going down!! Good luck!

well, in my own personal opinion, it depends on what is causing you to keep the weight on. over the past 1 or 2 i have lost right at 70 lbs. It has taken me until now to actually realize why i put the weight on in the first place. I eat when I am bored. ALOT. So my goal is to keep myself busy as long as possible. I have gone grocery shopping and i only bought healthy things. I did spend about 50 dollars more than I would have, but ithelps. Some good options are: Hoodia helps suppress your appetite if it is taken correctly. It is not a miracle pill (there is no such thing), but it does help. There is Chromium. It helps with sugar cravings. Ummm weight watchers worked wonders for me. i am very detail-orienated, and WW really helped with that. Now that its warming up, just do small things. Take your daughter to the park...let her run crazy dont put her in the stroller. that is excersising. park really far back at walmart. that helps. get up and walk the mall 2 or 3 times a week. i am sure you've heard before, but once you start working out (even just a little bit) you get more energy, and then it won't be so hard. Don't think of it as will power, think of it as a chore. I hate to clean, but if I don't do it, no one will..... thats how I do it. I don't know if this has helped any, but good luck.

Go to www.mckenna.com and follow his eating advise. It's not a diet, but it works better than any diet ever. He just teaches you how to eat like a thin person, What's funny is when I discovered his philosophy I noticed he was describing how my little sister has always eaten and she is built like a super model. His name is Paul McKenna and he's Brittan's leading weight loss expert, his clients keep their weight off for years and years, if not ever, because it's just altering a few basic things about the way you eat. It has worked so well for me.

Hey there,
I don't like calling it a diet because that implies something you do for a short period of time. So I have made a lifestyle change that has incorporated more exercise, more water and Weight Watchers, which is a great program. The bigget thing you have to exercise before trying to lose is your mind. Once you have decided to do it, that's most of the battle. But nevertheless I highly recommend WW which teaches healthy eating. I was working out at least 3 times a week, drinking water and wasn't able to drop the weight. Once I got on this very structured (notice I said structured and not strict) way of eating, I started to drop the weight again. Hang in there, you can do it!

The problem is...diets DON'T work. You have to want to lose weight bad enough to change your lifestyle. That's the ONLY thing that works. It's very simple, you have to burn more calories than you eat to lose weight. I used a church-based weight loss program that worked wonders and I think many different churches have them. It was all about decreasing your portions you eat, and eating only when you are truly hungry...not just because it's dinner time. I suggest you save time looking for diets and work on your will-power.

I'm doing the WeightWatchers online plan. I just started back on it about 3 weeks ago and have lost 6 pounds so far. I like it because it's not as restrictive as some of the other diets out there, but encourages you to eat healthy foods. My husband and 2 year old even like the food I cook on it.

I had done it a few years ago before going back to school and having our son and had lost about 25 pounds on it. I like the online better than the meetings because it doesn't require finding time to go to a meeting somewhere.

Good luck!

I am using sparkpeople.org to count my calories. My doc says I need to stay under 1500, sparkpeople says 1200 - 1550, but I am just trying to stay in that range and exercise 3 times a week. That is how I dropped the weight the last time I was skinny.

I was never overweight until pregnancy. My daughter is almost 5 now and I turned 30 and something clicked in my head. I've lost 25 pounds since christmas by doing the following:
I have weekly goals, inbetween goals, and a big goal. Everything is on paper, you can find charts that suit your needs online. My weekly goal is a reasonable 2 pounds a week, rather than out of reach 5 pounds a week or more (although I have lost that much in a week). I have rewards for my in between goals. I just used my first one for loosing 25 pounds, a clothes shopping trip (I needed new pants). My next goal is 20 pounds away and I'm going to go to a spa to have a facial, manicure and pedicure for that one. I have my goal posted on the fridge as a reminder. My sister in law is doing the same thing, using a reward to keep her motivated, it seems to work really well that way. For her, it's being able to walk Disney World for her family's vacation. One of my other motivators is knowing that I'm setting a good example for my daughter, even if she doesn't participate every time.
I've always eaten healthy, with a weakness for chocolate so I started REALLY paying attention to portions. I use measuring cups and spoons. I have snack sized m and ms that satisfy my chocolate cravings (I don't eat more than one a day unless I'm pmsing).I got salad sized plates to eat off of. I plan my meals, including snacks, a week in advance so that when I get hungry my mind doesn't wonder to things that are bad. I don't always strictly adhere, but I do keep track of what I eat. I found that I would eat compulsively and not realize how much I had eaten. I take a calcium supplement, especially with fatty foods, to help absorb some of the fat. We eat a salad for a meal twice a week and I eat salads for lunch probably 4 times a week. I take selenium and kelp drops to rev up my metabolism. And I take chromium picolinate and sometimes a cinnamon supplement to help with blood sugar levels, which keeps you from getting as hungry. My diet leans towards protein heavy, but I am not afraid of carbs that are whole grain and have fiber. The biggest thing that I do, however; is exercise. I think it's important to find something that you like to do, or several things that you like to do and commit to a goal. I started out with a goal of 30 minutes at least twice a week. And as my endurance and energy levels increase, I add more. I try to do at least 15 minutes every day, with 3 days a week at 45 or more minutes. My favorite work out activities are ashtanga yoga, belly dancing, dancing in general, and going for walks. I went to pump it up for a birthday party recently, and that was really fun and a good work out! My legs were sore.
My weight loss has been helped by an attitude change as well. I finally realized that if I starved myself for a day or 2 I wasn't going to wake up and find myself to be that girl I was before I had a kid. My body is changed forever. I will probably always have a saggy lower belly. My boobs will probably always have issues. But I can be healthy. I don't have to look perfect. I can respect the process that my body is and stop expecting it to become some wonderful end product. That expectation that "someday" my body will be this or that is a set up for negative body image... because it makes me feel like I'm not good enough right NOW.
I'm proud of where I'm at right now. Even if the rest of my weightloss comes achingly slow, I have set myself up for some good habits and I feel so much better.
I hope this wasn't too much info, but so many of us women beat ourselves up because of the package that we are in. And for many of us, no matter what we do, we're never good enough. The little voice in our heads that constantly critisizes just won't shut up. You've got to teach it to start saying, "I'm good enough, right here, right now. I respect the process that my body has gone through in becoming a woman and bringing a life into this world. And I'm going to respect it as it changes throughout my life."
Good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Hi L.,

Lettuce lettuce lettuce ! That's right! It's healthy, easy to 'make' and doesn't cost much. Not as boring as it sounds. Surround it with *grilled* fish, chicken, veggies and even potatoes and whole wheat bread; fruits. Healthy Egg Beaters are great to. Sauteeing is wonderful, just don't have your food swimming in oil.....ewwww.

No fats or sugars, stay away from sauces and spreads unless they are lite/no fat. Stick with **no fat/low calorie** Dannon Stay Fit Yogurt and lite ice cream.

All this and a dash of common sense should take a chunk off you in no time. You will do fine.

Though you didn't ask, as a bonus I thought I'd throw it in ;-)). This is what I do for exercise. You have to click around, but there is something for every part of your body, and it's free! You don't have to register or anything. Get right to it. Pictures, printouts, THE WORKS! So go to it! http://www.prevention.com/cda/categorypage.do?category=bo...

Now go have a fruit salad topped with no fat cool whip, and all the best in your new happy fat free life. The best of luck in school. I just know you'll do great !!!!!

Blessings!
