Babies get diarrhea when teething because they are swallowing lots of saliva and drool, which is acidic. This causes a diaper rash.

At diaper changes, here are some things you can do to alleviate the burning for her:

Rinse out the wipes in warm water, twice, to remove the soap.
When bathing, do not use soap. Just warm water. Soap is an irritant to broken skin.
Change diapers, wet or soiled, more often. Do not leave a wet or dirty diaper on any longer than absolutely necessary.
When changing a diaper, consider having her 'air her bum'; if she doesn't get upset at the sound, you can use a hairdryer on 'cool' to aim air at her bum to dry it completely. Be sure to keep your hand on her upper thigh and to check the skin to ensure it doesn't get too hot while using the hairdryer, so you don't burn her. Keep the air moving around the area, not just in one place.

Use a good cream like Weleda calendula cream. If you don't have that, a moisture barrier like desitin or A&D ointment can help. DO NOT use vaseline.

The rinsing of the wipes, thorough drying and frequent diapers changes are very important. If it begins to bleed and doesn't improve after a couple days of being consistent with those tips, do consider taking her to the pediatrician and ask if she might have strep. Some kids get 'strep butt' which is a strep infection on their bottoms. This is usually cleared up with topical antibiotics, if I remember correctly.

Often the diarrhea is so extreme they get gaulded skin. It is extremely painful. It's a combination of the digestive tracks acids and perhaps internal fever that causes it to be so destructive to their outside skin

I suggest you call the doc because they usually need a prescription ointment for this. BUT we would occasionally have kids come into day care with this and the meds do nothing. We would use antiacid on it.

We would take and rinse their hiney with water, wipes irritate it more. Then we'd get the liquid Mylanta or some other antiacid and put it on cotton balls. Then we'd dab it all over their hiney.

This would stop the acid from their digestive track from eating away any more skin. We'd do it each time they poohed. This is so painful. I feel for her. She can get so bad that she'll bleed too.

If she has any more diarrhea this morning she needs to see the doc because she could be getting dehydrated and may need something to stop the diarrhea.

What would you do if you had a rash on your rear? Wash it and put medicine on it right? Are you for real?

When you bathe her, if you use soap in the water make sure you rinse her with clean water or just bathe her with plain water and no soap for her privates.

Let her privates air dry. Then put on a protective layer of Balmex or Desitin cream before the diaper, and do it with every diaper change. It can help prevent irritation that gets so bad that she would get a yeast infection, but you need to keep an eye out for a bumpy rash where the "caps" or tips break and "weep." At that point you'll need to call the pediatrician.

You can stock up ahead of time on Lotriman cream .01% and plain Phillip's milk of magnesia. What you'll do with that is mix them into a paste with the Balmex... all three... and smear it all over her privates wherever you see the yeast rash... and it will soothe her and help cure the yeast.

Sounds like diaper rash.
Keep the area clean, change her often (like at least every hour) and use a rash cream like Aquaphor, Vaseline or Destin on the red area.
