Hello,
I found that the Pampers cruisers are the only diaper I found that do not leak at nighttime. They cost a little more, but it seems to be worth. I hope this helped.
Hello All! I am having a problem at night with my son. I thought I had it figured out but I guess I don't. My problem my son's diapers leak at night. He is a great sleeper (10-11 hrs per night). Goes down at night with a bottle. He wakes in the morning soaked all in front. He is a stomach sleeper and rarely rolls over at night. I have switched brands of diapers, going from Pampers to Huggies and that solved the problem for about 2 months. Now that it is happening again we even went up to size 4 (he only weighs 21 lbs.). Looking for some suggestions on this issue. I have been doing wash everyday this week. Thanks!
Thank you all for your advice. I did purchase the Huggies overnight diapers and they work great. We have not had a problem since he started wearing them at night. Thanks again!
Hello,
I found that the Pampers cruisers are the only diaper I found that do not leak at nighttime. They cost a little more, but it seems to be worth. I hope this helped.
As strange as it sounds, I have found that different diapers work better at different stages. With all three of my kids (ages 5, 4, and 22 months) I had to keep changing brands as they grew. Maybe try the 'night time' diapers? Or 'boy' diapers for at night. Maybe add a pair of training pants (undies)?
Hi! Why don't you try putting him down at night without a bottle? That might be part of the trouble, also it really isn't good for any teeth he may have or is getting. Good luck and best wishes.
This seems really silly to write, but make sure you point his "peter" down. I had the same problem (wet only in the front) with my son (stomach sleeper), it happened intermittently. I finally figured it out one morning -- I saw the way he was pointing so I figured the pee was "directed" where there was nothing to absorb it!
One more thing, if the diapers are way too big, the elastic might be gaping at the legs, so choose a diaper that's just his size, make sure he's pointing in the right direction and cinch the diaper nice and snug.
I used Huggies Overnites on both my son and my daughter. Also, for boys, make sure his boy part is pointing down in the diaper that way pee will go down into diaper.
I had the same problems with my girls. I changed to Hughies and the leaking almost went away. When you put the diaper, make sure that the little elastics from inside are well aranged. What I saw happening was that whenever I did not arrange the elastics nicely, they would "meet" in the middle and let the diaper leak.
Also, do not give milk right before sleep. Try feeding him 20-30 minutes before bedtime.
I had the same problem with my 3 year old. I had to put a diaper on her and then put a pull up over the diaper. And I quit giving her a bottle in the crib.
good luck

Ok, well maybe this will help as it did with me....I used pampers(always have), and yes, we had leaks, but after I did the below, I have not ever had a problem....
I stopped giving a drink in bed. I would give him a bottle about twenty min before bed, then change him, and you should be ok....He may be staying dry till like right before he awakes....that is what my daughter would do...: her diaper would be warm. If you must give bottle in bed, then go in and change him as soon as he is done>
we had the same problems and now I use Huggies overnight. They are the cheapest (not on sale) at Walmart. They come in size 3,4 and 5. My son is also a stomach sleeper and we have had maybe 2 leaks since switching to them 6 months ago. I hope this helps.
Huggies makes an overnite diaper. My son did the same thing and I started buying them and they worked like a dream. They are sometimes hard to find, I use to buy mine at Walmart and sometimes they didn't have them in stock either. They are in a blueish-purplish package. You can also buy diaper liners.
I use cloth diapers and never have a problem. But one thing you could do is combine a bit of cloth diaper wisdom with disposable diapers. Put on his normal diaper..or nighttime diaper (and using a bigger size doesn't really help..they aren't any more absorbent, just bigger). Then use a wool diaper cover. I use them (Actually, I also sell them). You can buy cheap ones or expensive ones...but they all work the same. Get one that is 100% wool. You can do some research on the internet. Wool is an incredible natural fiber. It is incredibly absorbant. Using a wool cover over diapers is much better than using a plastic cover. The wool allows the skin to breathe, so there is no diaper rash. In the morning, the wool diaper cover will feel damp on the inside..but all the wetness will stay contained! There are lots of good websites on the internet. Anyway, a wool diaper cover is my suggestion!
Good luck!
My son is 15 months and HUGGIES OVERNITES work perfectly!
There are special Overnight Huggies--have you tried those? Alternatively, would he take slightly less in his bedtime bottle?
We use the Huggies Overnights for nighttime and long trips.

C.,
Huggies always worked better for me with my son. Maybe the diaper size is too big and that's why they are leaking? Put a waterproof cloth pad under him at night to help with clean-up in the morning. Sorry, I don't have any more creative ideas! Good luck--and count your blessings you have such a good sleeper!
Hey C.
Can you out a water proof pad underneath of him? They make different kinds and I have a few that are as wide as the crib and tie onto the rails. I got mine at babies r us, they are the store brand - with the mattress covers. I would put that down, or 2 of them to cover a larger area, and then make sure his diaper area is in the same place and hopefully he is still in the same general area when he rolls over. My kids don't seem to move from place to place all that much, just kind of roll back and forth. It would at least save on the laundry. Also, huggies overnights helped when we had that problem with my son.
C. K,
When I was in diaper days my friend use to use something called a diaper doubler. I believe they were made for boys. I dont know who made them or if they are still on the market. But I would look for them and see if they help. Good Luck
I went threw the same issue and I have found the huggies overnights in a purple bag work awesome you can get them at wal mart and they have them especially for your son's size. make sure you get the overnights not good nights because they are for older ones. my son hasn't woke up wet in the morning since i have started using these!
I had the same problem, as my son is also a very good sleeper. We have that to be thankful for! I switched to Huggies Overnights in the dark purple package and that stopped the leaks. I also stopped the bottles at night though. Since he was sleeping through the night and eating well through the day, I didn't feel he needed that late night bottle which was causing the problem. I weaned him off the bottle by reducing the amount by half and then giving it to him on my lap in a quiet area so that he would get used to going to bed without it. I kept reducing the amount and it was only a month until we no longer gave him one at bedtime and he never asked for it. Plus, potty training is around the corner and liquids at night will have to be avoided anyway to conquer that! Good luck.
You really should stop putting him to bed with a bottle. Look up information on bottle mouth and you may be surprised about how horrible it is. Those pearly whites may have to be replaced with stainless steel teeth just so your child can eat.
As far as the diaper is concerened you can get inserts supposed to be used with cloth diapers to help with extra absorbency.
good luck
Get vinyl underpants and put them over his diaper at night so the wetness will be contained. Gerber makes them and you can get them at Babies R' Us.
You can build cloth diapers to fit your needs.
and cover them with wool, a an excellent healthy ways to diaper and be dry.
I would limit the fluids before bed.
We had the same problem with our little girl. She's 21 months now, about 24 lbs, and we solved the problem when we started to use Huggies Overnights, size 4. I order them online from drugstore.com. The price is the best I've found, and they deliver quickly - can't find the diapers easily in stores. Only about 2 accidents overnight in 2 months, instead of every night. Give them a try!

Have you tried the Huggies Night time diaper? they work most of the time with my son. We get them at Wal-Mart.
Safeway Supermarkets (Genuardi's) makes a diaper doubler as well. They are fantastic. It should solve the problem, or at least slow it down.
I use cloth & have no issues. The bum genius 3.0.
If you need disposibles they make a night time diaper I think huggies or pampers that I've heard is really great.
Or use your regular diapers with a diaper cover.
Good luck
& I would suggest not putting him down w/ a bottle :)
Hi Cathlen. We had the same problem with our son and the overnight diapers didn't help. Luckily, my son is good about staying asleep while we change his diaper (or going right back to sleep if he does wake up), so I started getting in the habit of changing him before I went to bed, which would be two to three hours after he went to sleep. I did it right in his bed. That was just what we needed to get him through the rest of the night without a leaky diaper. Maybe that would work with your son?
Same problem with my son. I use Huggies Overnights with a Diaper Doubler pad. You can find Diaper Doublers in the diaper section. I know Wegmans carries them and Babies R Us. They are about $4 for a pack of 30. He only leaks through once in a while. Hope this helps.
I know your pain...I would recommend using Huggies Overnites. My son is two now and we have been using them at night for the past year. My son wets more at night whether he drinks or not, so we were very happy when we found these. Hope this helps.
Hi. My daughter has the same problem! She drinks so much water that I would say 2-4 mornings a week, she is wet. They have plastic diaper covers at Target that you can put on top of the diapers....

Hi C.,
My son used to be soaked like that too. Bits of advice I read from the other ladies:
1) point the peter down, of course. Excellent advice.
2) Diaper Doublers - I found them at Pathmark after searching for two months. I found them at Brookhaven Pathmark and they are Pathmark brand. They are like a maxi-pad without the adhesive so if you can't find them per se an old school maxi would do just fine. I've heard they are at Walmart too but don't have one convenient so I'm not sure.
3) Huggies Overnights - I have heard of these and looked for them too. Still can't find them in my local markets.
4) Going to bed with a bottle. Ok with me, whatever works to get the baby soothed. I have worried about this and actually switched my 23 month old boy to water from milk. Before that we switched from bottle to sippy (that was harder for a couple nights) I go to bed with water so why shouldn't he? Good or bad, he's not drinking as much. In the morning, it's barely touched now so if your child is used to it, let him move away from it in his own way. Double up and save the laundry. Oh and those doublers are like $3.50! Cheap.
5) One more thing, this too shall pass.

C.,
I have the same problem with my heavy night sleeper. He weighs around 19 lbs and I am putting him in a size 5 at night for the extra coverage and it seems to be working. If you find any better solutions please share. I know it is frustrating washing sheets everyday and waking with a baby covered in urine, Yuck!!
We had this same problem and found diaper "doublers". It is like an extra layer of absorption that you put in the diaper. We used to be able to get them from Babies R Us, but I am not sure if they still have them. I would check online.
Good luck!
My son is fifteen years old, with complicated medical issues and is still in briefs. He is a very good sleeper as well. From being in hospitals, and having nurses all day with him while I work, I have gotten some good tips, however, not certain if they all would work for a 21 lb. little one. We inserted a Poise Pad in his briefs at night, which really helped to soak up the "extra", but it got extremely messy when he has a bowel movement, so now we are LOOSELY wrapping the newborn Pamper Swaddlers around his "package", and that seems to work perfectly throughout the twelve hours he sleeps. And we always, ALWAYS use cloth Chux (like a hospital pad) in his bed, over his fitted sheet - just in case of any leaks. This way, at least you don't have to strip the entire bed, just the top, it saves the fitted sheet and mattress pad....hopefully things will work out!
I have the same proublem with diapers. My daughter weighs just a little more then that and she blows threw her diapers at nap time. It is almost like they wait to go to sleep for it. And she is a big drinker. To try to cut down on laudry, Try some type of waterproof pad under him, where he sleeps. So that way you are only changing the pad and not the whole bed.
My son had that issue as well; I think it's a stomach sleeper thing. I cut back on the liquids before bed and that helped some. But I think the trick was to put the diaper on weird. I pulled it way up in the front instead of the normal way. It seemed to catch the extra tinkle, and since he didn't really turn over much it wasn't a problem in the back.
I had the same problem with my son and switched to generic diapers. I bought them at CVS drug store, and Sam's club also had the same diapers marketted under a different name. I never cared for the name brands and it also saved me money.

I don't know if this will help or not but you can try it. When changing his diaper make sure that you push down his wee wee. So when he goes to the bathroom it goes down in the diaper and not up. I was having the same problem when my son was little.
I see that a lot of mom like Huggies. I personally had the opposite problem with them, they are the ones that leaked. I've had very few leakage problems at night with Luvs, but I also never gave my kids a bottle to go to bed. Maybe that's the main problem. Good luck.
Huggies- Overnight worked for us. Rite Aid sells them.
Monitor how much he's drinknig in the evening before bedtime. You might find that he's drinking a lot more than you realize. Then try to give him less to drink before bedtime. That might help.
FYI - I have three children - 18yr old daughter, 4yr old son, and 19 month daughter.
I had that probelm with my kids my suggetsion is to either give him less in his last bottle or an hour or so betfore bed time don't allow him to drink anything. Also make sure the diaper is on your child correctly, if its turned wrong that can make it leak. Good luck.
Our son used to do the same thing and we tried moving him up a size in diapers at night with no luck either. We started using Huggies Overnights. They are a little more expensive, but you only use one per day, so it was really worth it. Our son used to wake up thru the night because he was so wet and as soon as you picked him up you were soaked to, but once we tried these everything was fine. I think they only come in size 4 & 5 so they might seem a little big, but our son was about the same size as yours when we started used them and it worked out great for us.
I solved this problem by putting two diapers on. Before you put the first diaper on...take a pair of sissors and cut a few slits in the outside plastic layer of the diaper (do not do this while the diaper is on your child). Put the slitted diaper on. Then take a second diaper (one size larger might be necessary) and put it on over top of the slit diaper.
Good Luck!
First, don't let him go to sleep with a bottle. It's not good for his teeth and a bad habit to have all around. Limit his drinking and have less after dinner. If I had a tall glass of something to drink laying in bed before I fell asleep, I'd be up during the night needing to pee myself! LOL

I was having the same exact problem with my son who is now 23 lbs. until I started using Huggies GoodNights. Haven't had one leak yet! You can get them on diapers.com because they're not widely distributed at supermarkets, etc.
I had a similar problem. Have you tried Huggies Nighttime diapers. They are specificAlly made to hold more for nightime.
Try huggies overnights, they are the best. XO
I had the same problem and I switched to Huggies Overnight. They were the only brand that I could find overnight diapers in. No matter how wet he is, they don't leak.
