Does anyone have any good diaper rash remedies? I've tried the over the counter creams, letting her be without a diaper, longer bath time. It doesn't seem to be clearing up. It's also not getting too bad, but she's maintaining a rash. With my son I used his eczema cream & it cleared it up immediately. However, now that eczema cream has the warning "may cause cancer"...so we've stopped using it. Also on that note, does anyone have a home remedy for exzema. Thanks
I have to say the majority of people recommended butt paste. However, being stuck home with sick kids this past week, I decided to give breastmilk a try. Since it was readily available without a trip to the store. I must say, I was surprised at how well it worked. I noticed a difference on 1 day & the rash completely cleared by day 2-3. I'll keep the butt paste in mind for when we stop breastfeeding, but for now I'm sold. Thanks for all the advice.

Look inside her mouth. Since your breast feeding she could have Thrush. It's little white makes inside her mouth. It's a yeast infection. This can travel through out her entire digestive track. My son had thrush and a yeast infection/diaper rash. Regular diaper rash creams will not help with this. Talk to your doc about Nystantin cream.

Also I had a little bit of exzema on my eye lid and my doctor told me to use Johnson and Johnson Baby Shampoo. Now I dont know if she said that because of the location of the exzema, but it really worked I use it every day in the shower and my face doesnt break out and the exzema dosent flare up. Goodmorning R.,
I am a mother of two with our third on the way in March. We have had to deal with our share of diaper rashes for sure. The first thing we did when we would notice one coming on would be to let the air hit it for a few minutes before closing the diaper back up after changing to a fresh one of course, hehe. Then we tried many different types of diaper rash creams. We finally started asking around ourselves and heard about this stuff called BagBalm. It works wonders for so many reasons, including severe and stubborn diaper rash. you can find it in most drug stores and even Wal-Mart carries it. A little will go a long way and the container will last you what seems like forever. It really did work for us, I hope you find something that works for your family.

Try using cortaid, bacitracin, micatin (antifungal for feet) and a little liquid ant-acid. It sounds like a lot, but mix it all together in a sealable container and it keeps for months. My pediatrician recommended it to me when my daughter was a couple of months old and I've been using it ever since (she's 8 and my son is 2). It make a thick paste that usually will clear any diaper rash in about 12 hours. After the rash is clear, put a thin layer of blamex on your daughter with every diaper change. Good luck!

I used it for my youngest cause she has excema and had a very bad rash I couldnt get rid of. It worked amazing!! Use equal parts of everything. Hi my 1st son use to get serious diaper rashes i mean really bad where sometimes they would bleed and they were constant. i talked to his docs and everyone i could think of. his doc told me to use bacitracin cream as well as balmax. also my great gram ( the woman was amazing with home remedies) told me to give him a bath everyday or twice a day and pour cornstarch intot he water so that it would be almost milky colored and make it nice and warm and let him soak in it. using both of those methods cleared the diaper rashes up right away everytime and when the new baby started getting them i used the same methods on him now too. at the first sign of redness we pu ton the balmax if it gets worse then we add the bacitracin cream ( not the ointment) and the baths with cornstarch (we keep a box right int he bathroom)
i hope this helps.

My oldest daughter had a huge problem with diaper rashes. The first thing that seemed to help was using homemade baby wipes instead of store bought ones. Cute a bounty paper towel roll in half (so it's about the size of a roll of tp) mis a tsp of baby soap, a tsp of baby oil and cover the bottom of a tupperware container with about 1/4 in of water. Mix in the baby oil and soap and then stick the 1/2 paper towel roll in the water mix. The paper towel will soak it all up and then just keep it in a covered container. The other thing that helped was the dr gave her a perscription for Nystatin. It took it away within 2 days. My son has exzema and we have found that the best thing is Hemp lotion from the body shop. It's a little pricy but it lasts for a really long time and it really helps clear it up. Good luck!

Hey there,
Both of my boys have exzema, and both are right in the diaper area (well my oldest isn't in diapers anymore, but ya know...)
Anyway, as you proabably know, the bath iritates their exzema something fierce, so I started using bath salts called Treasure of the Sea, from Kama Sutra, since I started using these in their bath they have never had an outbreak since (almost 3 years strong) and when my youngest (1 and a half) has a rash, I bath him once in the stuff and it's gone the next day.
K this is now going to sound like I am advertising, but I swear I'm not, this is a product I sell, but I stand by this product as it is the only thing that has ever helped my children, not to mention how much I love it too : )
If all else fails, I am telling you this will work! Hope you find something that works

The chemicals in disposables tend to irritate a tender toosh...

You have a ton of responses here with a lot of good info...I just wanted to add that it may very well be yeast...my boys both had those kind of diaper rashes and I was given a perscription for Nyastatin and also Bactroban and I had to alternate them. it worked really good. I also would give them acidopholis. You can get it at any vitamin store. I would break the capsule open and put it in a drink or yogurt or something where they wouldn't notice. It doesn't taste like anything...and it's very good for treating yeast. It's safe...I gave it to my newborn son when he had thrush. My pediatrician is somewhat wholeistic and she said everyone could use acidopholis so I should give it to him on a regular basis. Especially if you have someone struggling with eczema...it may help.

Hi R.-
Aveeno makes a great baby oatmeal bath. It soothes discomfort from rashes, eczema etc. You could give them one these baths to help ease some discomfort. My son has had a rash for about 3 days and I have been using the Aveeno diaper rash cream and it has done wonders. It also contains oatmeal to soothe. He still has a little redness and irritation. I would assume it will be gone in a couple more days, but for now, it is not uncomfortable for him. You could also try mixing some Mylanta antacid with your diaper cream or try to get the thick formula and put it on the rash when it is initially irritated. I have heard of doing this from a few people including my sister who used it on my niece. Good luck.

Persistent diaper rash can be caused by yeast and there is a powder called "Zeasorb" which i found in a surgical supply drug store. It worked on my kids very well. As far as exzema goes, try stopping dairy products for a while. Calcium is readily available in many other foods...(spinach, kale, fortified foods like oatmeal) Try for a few weeks, re-place cheese with soy cheese, milk with soy or almond milk (or rice milk) or just water ...whatever your son will tolerate. Give it a few weeks (like 4 - 6) to see if it helps. Good Luck - J.

Hi R.,
I had problems with diaper rash with both of my girls..I tried every cream out there. The only thing that worked for my first daughter was Triple Paste ointment --that you have to ask for behind the pharmacists desk and for my other daughter--Lotrimin(anti-fungal cream). I think different creams work for different kids. My daughter also has Eczema. The doctor kept telling me to keep her moisturized with good lotion all of the time and it will help. Well, I didn't and the Eczema got infected. Now she has to have antiobiotic ointment & Hydorcortisone for the week. But if you keep putting a good lotion on the kids epecially after a bath, it will help with the Eczema.
Hope this helps,
Take care,
Jen

go to www.arbonne.com and order their diaper rash cream! it is amazing. i applied it to my son's rash and the results were almost immediate. he also had a small form of eczema and the diaper cream and lotion made it disappear and it hasn't returned. i like the fact that the products are based on botanical principles, made without fragrance, dyes, etc. basically the stuff that makes their sweet skin so irritated. each product last for a long time, too because it doesn't take much! good luck.

One of my girls constantly had a rash, and honestly, nothing worked better than Boudreax's Butt paste (Bag balm a close 2nd) Our pediatrician also reccommended "Triple Paste" which has lanolin in it which most others don't. Here's the website:
I had a hard time finding it, but the pediatricians office also told me I could find it at Walmart, which is not listed as a retailer at the bottom of the site. According to the Ped, this is THE BEST for persistant rashes, but Boudreaxs worked for us.

I would make sure that it isnt a yeast infection. It sounds like it might be. You should have your child stay away from eating things with sugar and you should as well if you are nurseing. My son had lots of problems with eczema and we finally have it under control. If you are seeing a regular doctor they suggest very strong lotions and dont really get to the root of the problem. You need to figure out what your child is allergic to. I would suggest going to an alternative doctor that is the only place we found help. I would start by cutting wheat and dairy from your childs diet these are the two most common problems. Again if you are nurseing you need to stop eating these things as well. You also want to up the omega 3s in your childs diet and make sure that they have a healthy gut. Talk to a doctor note also that eczema is really common in Portland. Ive talked with a lot of moms who have children who break out if they play in the dirt. The soil in Portland is very toxic and I wonder if this has a huge deal to do with so many children having eczema. For topical treatments try camcare you can get it at Wildoats. Also cold Cam tea compressions and olive oil baths work nicely to soothe the itching. Good luck. If you would like me to give you the name of the doctor that treated my son email me :)
